Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III Gets a Comic Tie-In

Prepare for a new dawn! In celebration of the upcoming and highly anticipated Dawn of War III real-time strategy game, Titan Comics and Games Workshop join forces to deliver a brand-new four issue comic mini-series in April 2017. Titan’s brand-new Dawn of War III comic mini-series comes hot on the heels of the phenomenal Warhammer 40,000: Will of Iron ongoing series, which launched earlier this year.

Written by Ryan O’Sullivan and illustrated by Daniel Indro, the Dawn of War III mini-series will tie-in to the colossal Dawn of War real-time-strategy games, produced by Relic Entertainment with Sega and Games Workshop, in which players command armies of the Space Marines, Orks, and the Eldar to dominate the battlefield!

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War was a critical and commercial hit in 2005, followed by the release of Dawn of War II: Retribution in 2009.

Titan’s Dawn of War III comic series tells an all-new tale in parallel to that of the video game story, which sees three factions – the Blood Ravens Space Marines, the Eldar, and a fearsome Ork horde – converging on a planet where a weapon of devastating power has been unearthed. .

Titan’s Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III mini-series will be available for pre-order in February’s Diamond PREVIEWS catalogue.

Is that Tau in Venom: Space Knight? Paging GW Lawyers! (Update)

If there’s one company that fights to defend their IP more than a certain House of Mouse, that’d be the game company Games Workshop who has sicked quite a few lawyers on companies they felt were infringing on their Warhammer and Warhammer 40k IP. That’s what makes today’s Venom: Space Knight #6 rather interesting.

The series has Venom soaring through space as a Marvel version of DC’s Green Lantern and with that he comes across all sorts of alien races… including Tau!? Tau are an high-tech alien race from the popular GW game Warhammer 40K.

Here’s the panels:

Marvel Tau 1
Marvel Tau 2

And here’s a GW Tau Hammerhead where you can see the same iconography on the side.

And here’s the GW Sky Ray model with the same missile set up and iconography.

Things don’t end there, because in the same issue we also have what looks like an Eldar vehicle as well.

Marvel Eldar

This wouldn’t be the first time Marvel has dipped into GW design. Amazing Spider-Man #582 featured a Bolt Pistol.

Update: We have heard back from Games Workshop who has said they are aware of this and it has been passed along to their legal team for further investigation.

Titan Comics Logo (1)Beginning this September, Titan Comics will be working with Games Workshop to publish brand-new comics based in the world of Warhammer 40,000.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war! First brought to life as an epoch-definingly popular tabletop miniature wargame in 1987, Warhammer 40,000’s dark-gothic dystopian science-fiction universe pits an outnumbered human Imperium and its sometimes-allies against the eternal forces of Chaos, in a battle for control of the forty-first millennium.

The Games Workshop brand boasts an annual revenue of over $170 million, with 3,700 independent retailers carrying Games Workshop products in 52 countries.

Now in its seventh edition of the tabletop game, Warhammer 40,000 continues to grow from strength to strength, gathering fans across the world to its banner, under the aegis of the game, across hundreds of popular novels, in board games and RPGs from Fantasy Flight, and in fan-favorite videogames like the Dawn of War series. Numerous top-selling apps featuring the Warhammer 40,000 IP are also available for iOS and Android.

Aimed at fans and newcomers alike, Titan’s new series taps into Warhammer 40,000’s wealth of compelling characters, species, and searingly-memorable imagery to deliver accessible science-fiction action on an unmatched galactic canvas.

Whether it’s the iconic, power-armor-encased Space Marines holding the line against unspeakable forces of xenos; the frothing, Daemonic intensity of Chaos, corrupting all they touch; the squabbling, bodged-together Orks, riding roughshod over far-flung colonies; the exotic, long-lived Eldar wielding rare weaponry and rarer insight; the idealistic, mech-piloting forces of the Tau; the undying, endoskeletal hordes of the Necrons, or the starving forces of unnature, like the Tyranids, spitting death and destruction with every spurt of their chitinous cannons, the Warhammer 40,000 setting offers horrifying surprises and stunning sights at every turn – and the comics will explore them all!

Look for more announcements of the creative team behind the first ongoing very shortly!

Games Workshop’s Age of Sigmar Launches July 11

Age of SigmarFor those paying attention to Games Workshop‘s Warhammer Fantasy, something was up. GW has announced the Age of Sigmar, a brand new system that launches July 11. GW has informed stores that they are now good to go as far as promoting the game.

What is the Age of Sigmar? Well the details are slim, but what we know directly from GW:

  • The game launches July 11th.
  • Pre-order begins July 4th
  • The Age of Sigmar is a brand new system that continues the End Times story
  • This system is a great way for new customers to start collecting and playing with fantasy miniatures
  • Existing customers will be able to use their current miniature collections and add to them with the Age of Sigmar

From their website:

These were the End Times. The world is no more, torn apart by treachery and Chaos. And yet… endings beget beginnings.

Listen carefully. Can you hear it? The cruel laughter of dark gods? It dances on the winds between worlds, striving to be heard, for the ruinous powers bore easily, and they seek tirelessly for new realities to conquer. Where there is life, Chaos will find it, and misery and bloodshed will soon follow.

The world is gone, but all may not be lost.

The descendants of the Old Ones left before the Chaos moon destroyed their homelands, that much is certain. But where did they go?

And if they escaped, did anyone else?

Can what is dead ever truly die?

Who remains lost in the void?

To what does he cling?

And when a world dies…

…what happens next?

It also worth noting that retailers were asked to count their inventory to see how many they had of:

  • Island of Blood Box Set
  • Main Warhammer Fantasy Rulebooks
  • A count of their army books
