Image and Skybound Announces Charity Variants for Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Skybound Entertainment has announced that many of their comic book releases in May will feature new variant covers honoring Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. Each of these covers will be penciled by creators of Asian or AAPI heritage.

All proceeds from the sales of these AAPI Heritage Month variant covers, will be donated to CCED, a Los Angeles based volunteer organization that builds grassroots power through organizing, education, and mutual help.

All of Skybound’s AAPI Heritage Month variant covers will be available exclusively at comic book stores and includes:

Fire Power Gets a Double Sellout and New Printings

The New York Times bestselling, Eisner Award winning pop culture phenomenon Robert Kirkman has caught lightning in a bottle once more on his co-creation with Eisner winning artist Chris Samnee, Eisner Award-winning colorist Matt Wilson, and letterer Rus Wooton in the new series—Fire Power. Issues #1 and #3 are being rushed back to print in order to keep up with breakout customer demand.

Despite a total of 200K copies of Fire Power #1 already pumped into circulation, the launch issue has sold out at the distributor level, alongside Fire Power #3, with backorders piling up. 

In the new series Fire Power, Owen Johnson’s journey to China to learn about his birth parents eventually leads him to a mysterious Shaolin Temple. The students there study The Fire Power—the lost art of throwing fireballs. A power they claim will be needed soon to save the world. Will Owen Johnson be the first person in a thousand years to wield the Fire Power?

Fire Power #1, second printing (Diamond Code AUG208118) and Fire Power #3, second printing (Diamond Code AUG208119) will both be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, October 14.

Negan Lives #1 Gets a Second Printing while Fire Power #1 is Over 150,000 Copies

The New York Times bestselling, award-winning creative team behind The Walking Dead phenomenon — Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard — have done it again with an instant sell-out at the distributor level of the surprise release, Negan Lives #1, last week. A new printing has been greenlit for retailers to reorder stock of the buzzy one-shot story and will be available on Wednesday, August 5. 

Fans snagging their Negan Lives #1 issue last week were simultaneously introduced to an all-new series from Kirkman and Chris Samnee, Fire Power. Over 150K promotional copies of Fire Power #1 were quickly wiped out and fans eagerly added their Fire Power, Vol. 1: Prelude trade paperbacks to buy piles in anticipation of the August single issue series launch.

Fire Power #1 is on Sale in August with New Cover Art. Out the Same Day as Fire Power #2

The highly anticipated Fire Power #1 issue by Robert Kirkman and Chris Samnee on sale Wednesday, August 5, and priced at $3.99, will feature different cover art from the free promotional edition (formerly: Free Comic Book Day edition) of the comic. This issue of Fire Power #1 will also be extra length and feature additional backmatter not previously included in the promotional edition.

Fire Power #2 will also be available for sale on the same day.

In Fire Power, the one who wields the fire power is destined to save the world, but Owen Johnson has turned his back on that life. He doesn’t want the power—he never did. He only wants to spend time with his family and live his life, but unseen forces are at work to make that impossible. Danger lurks around every corner as Owen’s past comes back to haunt him.

Robert Kirkman, Chris Samnee, Matt Wilson, and Rus Wooton’s Fire Power Gets an Original Graphic Novel in April

Fans eager to jump into the world of Fire Power won’t have to wait until May. The New York Times bestselling, Eisner Award winning team of Robert Kirkman, artist Chris Samnee, colorist Matt Wilson, and letterer Rus Wooton, will reveal the origin story of the Fire Power protagonist Owen Johnson in the forthcoming Fire Power, Vol. 1: Prelude original graphic novel. This brand new story will hit stores from Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment in April—just in time for readers to get on board before the single issue series launches the following month.

The graphic novel features nearly eight issues worth of story and art for $9.99. Fans will be able to purchase it on Wednesday then head to comic shops that Saturday for the first issue for free available on Free Comic Book Day.
