Trump’s Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin Helped produce X-Men, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, and more.

trumpOur first reality television President sure seems to be tapping into his Hollywood connections when it comes to asking opinions on what he should do as well as his nominees for different roles. It is being reported that President-elect Donald Trump has tapped Steven Mnuchin to be his Treasury secretary. You might be asking why we’re reporting on this, but Mnuchin is more than a former partner at Goldman Sachs, his career is actually relevant to this site!

Founded in 2006 Dune Entertainment was a movie financing company started by Mnuchin. The company helped co-finance 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, and Fox 2000 Films such as X-Men: The Last Stand (which was a co-production with Marvel Entertainment and The Donners’ Company), Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (a co-production with Marvel Studios, Constantin Film and 1492 Pictures), Alien vs. Predator: Requiem, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, X-Men Origins: Wolverine (a co-production with Marvel Entertainment, The Donners’ Company, and Seed), Avatar, Predators, X-Men: First Class (a co-production with Marvel Entertainment, The Donners’ Company, and Bad Hat Harry), Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Prometheus, and dozens of more films.

Marvel is mentioned because Marvel’s CEO Ike Perlmutter is buddy buddy with Trump.

RatPac Entertainment (aka RatPac-Dune Entertainment) was a movie production and financing company formed in a merger by producer-director Brett Ratner, James Packer, and Dune Entertainment’s Mnuchin after a collapse in a negotiation between Dune and 20th Century Fox. That company then closed a deal with Warner Bros. to become their key co-financing partner replacing Legendary Pictures.

That new venture helped produce such films as Gravity, The Lego Movie, Godzilla, Edge of Tomorrow, Mad Max: Fury Road, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (co-production with DC Entertainment, Cruel and Unusual Films and Atlas Entertainment), The Legend of Tarzan (co-production with Village Roadshow Pictures, Jerry Weintraub Productions, and Dark Horse Entertainment), Suicide Squad (co-production with DC Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment), The Lego Batman Movie (co-production with Warner Animation Group and DC Entertainment), Wonder Woman (co-production with DC Entertainment, Atlas Entertainment and Cruel and Unusual Films), Justice League (co-production with DC Films, Atlas Entertainment and Cruel and Unusual Films), The Flash (co-production with DC Films), Aquaman (o-production with DC Films and Cruel and Unusual Films), The Lego Movie Sequel, Shazam (co-production with DC Films and New Line Cinema), Cyborg (co-production with DC Films), Green Lantern Corps (co-production with DC Films), and the Justice League sequel (co-production with DC Films and Cruel and Unusual Films).

There’s also the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie… so, yeah. He even acted in Rules Don’t Apply where he was a “Merrill Lynch Executive.”

Mnuchin has worked with Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse, on some of the major comic films of the last decade and next five years. The guy even has an IMDB page.

So, when you nerd rage over how much upcoming geek films suck, you can turn your venom towards our possible next Treasury secretary.

Michael Sheen to Direct and Star in Green River Killer

Green River Killer A True Detective StoryQC Entertainment has announced the company will produce and finance the true crime thriller Green River Killer, which marks the feature film directorial debut of acclaimed actor Michael Sheen who will also star in the film.  The screenplay written by Sheen made the coveted The Black List in 2015, and is adapted from the Dark Horse Entertainment’s award-winning graphic novel Green River Killer: A True Detective Story. The novel was written by Jeff Jensen, based on his father Tom Jensen, and artist Jonathan Case.

The film will be produced by Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg, Sheen and QC Entertainment’s Sean McKittrick and Ray Mansfield.  QC’s Edward H. Hamm Jr. and Shaun Redick will serve as Executive Producers.  The film will be co-represented for domestic film sales by ICM Partners and QC Entertainment, which is the recently formed partnership between McKittrick, Hamm, Mansfield and Redick.

The film is the story of Tom Jensen, the man who spent twenty years looking for the ‘Green River Killer,’ and Gary Ridgway (to be played by Sheen), the man he caught.  After a two-decade hunt and forty-nine official murders, the two men are forced to live and work together in a dark alliance to uncover the truth.

Universal Cable Productions and Dark Horse Sign First-Look Deal

Dark_Horse_Comics_logoUniversal Cable Productions (UCP) continues to expand its powerhouse producing talent and build upon the studio’s genre footprint by signing a first-look deal with legendary comic book publisher, Dark Horse Entertainment. The deal will focus on developing and producing scripted programming from their extensive comics library as well as new material. Discussions for the deal began at San Diego Comic Con in 2014 when Dark Horse introduced UCP executives to some of their top writers and artists. Over the last year, those conversations continued and have yielded multiple television projects with direct involvement from the comics creators.

UCP will collaborate with Dark Horse to bring their unique and fresh approach to the creative process. Together they will maximize Dark Horse’s network of talented comic creators and robust library of content to develop character driven concepts for television intended to resonate with their current fan base. Dark Horse President and founder Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg, SVP of Production, have enjoyed great success for the last two decades; no strangers to television, they also currently executive produce Syfy’s Dark Matter.

Projects currently in development:

Harrow County – Emmy has always known that the deep, dark woods surrounding her home crawled with ghosts, goblins, and the restless dead. On the eve of her 18th birthday, she learns that she is connected to these creatures and to the land itself in a way she never imagined, for she is the reincarnation of a powerful witch who was put to death on the very day Emmy was born. For this reason, the townsfolk mean to kill her too. In order to survive, Emmy must embrace the unusual powers at her command.  This project is based on the brand new book written by Cullen Bunn and illustrated by Tyler Crook.

The Umbrella Academy – Nine years after parting ways, the estranged members of the Umbrella Academy, a dysfunctional family of superheroes with bizarre powers, must figure out how to work together to save the world. Created by Gerard Way and Gabriel Ba; Bluegrass films is also attached to executive produce.

Back Up – In the near future, a new technology allows people to be backed up the same way we now back up our computers—but instead of protecting against drive failure, these backups protect against death. This project is based on a feature script by Tom Vaughn.  Kenny Golde is set to write and executive produce, Brad Anderson is in negotiations to direct.  Jim Wedaa is also attached to executive produce.

Concrete – After his subconscious is transplanted into a hulking stone body, Ronald Lithgow must come to terms with his new form and try to live a normal life.  This Eisner award-winning title is the opus of comics legend Paul Chadwick.

Victor Santos and Dark Horse’s Polar Heads to the Big Screen

Constantin Film and Dark Horse Entertainment are joining forces to bring Polar to the big screen. Based on the popular Dark Horse Comics graphic novel Polar: Came from the Cold by Victor Santos, Constantin Film has pre-emptively purchased the spec, Polar written by Jayson Rothwell.

The adrenaline-pumping action-thriller tells the story of Black Kaiser, a master assassin forced out of retirement when he finds himself the target of a motley crew of new generation hitmen. But Kaiser’s gun-blazing and bloody universe is at odds with the doting and protective relationship he has with the child of one of his former marks. Faced with the ultimate battle for survival, Kaiser must choose between saving his life and saving his soul.

Constantin Film and Dark Horse Entertainment are currently out to directors with the aim of shooting Polar in the spring of 2015. Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer will be producing along with Jeremy Bolt as well as Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg. Rothwell is also writing an Untitled Heist Thriller for Thunder Road. He is repped by WME.
