Wednesdays (and Tuesdays) are new comic book day! Each week hundreds of comics are released, and that can be pretty daunting to go over and choose what to buy. That’s where we come in

Each week our contributors choose what they can’t wait to read this week or just sounds interesting. In other words, this is what we’re looking forward to and think you should be taking a look at!

Find out what folks think below, and what comics you should be looking out for this week.

Action Comics #1052 (DC Comics) – Superman is back and brought his entire family. The previous issue was a lot of fun and left us with a lot of questions. Add in some awesome art, good backup stories and the Man of Steel and friends are flying high!

The Beginning After the End Vol. 2 (Yen Press) – The first volume was fantastic and left Art and his parents under attack and about to fight! Big reveals are promised in this one!

Cosmic Ghost Rider #1 (Marvel) – The character took a break and is back in a new series that has someone killing in his name. We’re intrigued by it all.

Do a Powerbomb (Image Comics) – Collecting the amazing wrestling series. This is one to check out if you’re a fan of the sport, family drama, fantastic action, or amazing art.

Hallows’ Eve #1 (Marvel) – The character was one of the more interesting things to come out of “Dark Web”. A series dedicated to her? We’re willing to give it a shot.

Hunt. Kill. Repeat. #1 (Mad Cave Studios) – Artemis is on a quest for revenge to confront her father, Zeus, for taking away everything she ever loved.

Karate Survivor in Another World Vol. 4 (Seven Seas Entertainment) – It feels like quite a while since we got the third volume, but the series has taken an interesting spin on the reincarnated genre pitting karate agaisnt swords and sorcery.

Phantom Road #1 (Image Comics) – Dom is a long-haul truck driver attempting to stay ahead of his tragic past. That sounds interesting but it being by Jeff Lemire and Gabriel Hernandez Walta makes this a must.

Red Winter: Fallout #3 (Scout Comics) – All hell breaks loose as Joseph and Darya find themselves in a deadly gunfight with the Chistyye Krovi. Who will survive and what will be left of them?!

Red Zone #1 (AWA Studios) – When his support team of commandos is ambushed and killed, it’s up to Randall to fight his way out of Russia using his “particular set of skills.” It sounds like 80s action films are back!

Rogue and Gambit #1 (Marvel) – Krakoa is heading towards a shakeup and it sounds like this series may play a role in what’s to come.

Skull & Bones: Savage Storm #1 (Dark Horse) – Set in the world of the upcoming video game, there’s been a string of solid pirate comics lately. We’re hoping this continues that trend.

Spider-Man: Unforgiven #1 (Marvel) – There’s been solid changes to Marvel’s vampire world and we’re hoping this keeps up whatever direction they’re heading.

Where Monsters Lie #2 (Dark Horse) – The first issue was fantastic, introducing us to a community where slashers/serial killers live when they’re not doing their thing.

Cosmic Ghost Rider Enters the Battlerealm on Marvel Contest of Champions

During Earth’s last stand against Thanos the Punisher, Frank Castle, was struck and killed. A lifetime of killing saw his soul sent to Hell, and a deal struck with Mephisto saw him to become the latest Ghost Rider. But by the time he returned to Earth, everything was dead, and Thanos was gone. After endless years alone, Ghost Rider was found by Galactus, who agreed to make him his Herald in exchange for being allowed to devour Earth. Mephisto’s Invasion – Incoming Transmission from Marvel Contest of Champions

GET IN, WE’RE GOING TIME-TRAVELING! The Contest continues as Kabam debuted an all-new motion comic teasing two new Champions coming to the popular mobile fighter MARVEL Contest of Champions– Cosmic Ghost Rider and Red Goblin! Here is a quick look at what the Contest has in store this month:

Several time anomalies have been detected on the far reaches of The Battlerealm. As concerning as numerous temporal activities in one region is, it does not appear to affect the mysterious characters running amok in the nearby area. 

Reports state that “The Rider” has been sighted in the region after tracking down a seemingly abandoned warehouse filled with countless Crystals. As great of a find as this is, caution is urged, as there is very likely a sinister reason why the Crystals were abandoned in the first place…

Hop in and get ready for a turbulent ride through The Contest as Cosmic Ghost Rider and Red Goblin fight for, about & through time itself in this month’s Event Quest; Recursion!

Super-Articulate: Marvel Riders and Finally . . . Dani Moonstar

We’ve got some big entries to tackle this time, readers. The latest Marvel Legends Riders, Squirrel Girl, and Cosmic Ghost Rider, have hit, and I finally got the third Dani Moonstar I needed to complete that trio of New Mutants. We’ll lead off with that . . .

Marvel Legends Dani Moonstar (Walgreens Exclusive): This figure was both a glorious offering and a pain in the ass. I love the idea of offering extra accessories to convert a figure into another character. However, between six Walgreens in my area (in and around Indianapolis), I saw exactly zero over several months. Over time, I did manage to get three on eBay for not-terrible prices. I tried to order on Walgreens.com more than once, only to have the orders fail for various reasons. However, a few days back, I managed to get ahold of the third so that I could put together Dani, Karma, and Wolfsbane.

Dani Moonstar: As the base figure, Dani Moonstar has been a long time coming. One was originally supposed to appear in a wave as far back as 2013. On the upside, it’s finally here, and it looks good. The basic costume and look of the characters comes from New Mutants vol. 2 #1 from 2009. In the case of Dani, the bow and double-ponytail is directly from the wraparound cover. I’m satisfied with the sculpting overall and the team did a nice job on the bow and arrow, distinguishing them from other, similar accessories in the line.

Karma: Similarly, Karma’s look is taken right from the same cover. I like the head-sculpt and the eye effect; the hands are similar to other sculpts that have been emblematic of psychic or magic powers (see Emma Frost, for example). I’m wouldn’t be surprised to see a variant Karma with the cybernetic leg turn up sometime in the future, but I think I prefer this version.

Wolfsbane: Not bad overall, but it lacks a certain flair. The head and clawed hand sculpts are good, but I wish that we had a “human” Rahne head. I would definitely like there to be a Stroman-esque X-Factor Woflsbane in the future to go with Havok, Polaris, Madrox, and the forthcoming Strong Guy BAF. But as far as representing the character for the New Mutants, it’s adequate.

Really, the best part of the Dani Moonstar figure is seeing all three versions together. We have literally never had all three characters in figure form, and it’s great to see. It makes me want to see a similar figure for the boys with heads/hands for Cypher, Sunspot, and Cannonball. Just maybe make them easier to get.

Moving on . . .

Squirrel Girl: This is pretty delightful. A great sculpt (that tale is hilariously huge) and a sense of fun are all over this set. Sure, the scooter is basically the same as the Deadpool version, but it does have the basket. The three squirrels are appropriately cute. Do I wish that they would have done the character as a regularly priced figure with the 3 squirrels still packed in? Sure. But I understand that occasionally certain things are done due to the realities of getting things on the market.

Now, I realize that there are some people out there that don’t like, even hate, Squirrel Girl. Frankly, don’t care. If you don’t like it, don’t buy. This is a great rendition of a character co-created by the immortal Steve Ditko that appeals to a lot fans. They like it, and so do I.

Cosmic Ghost Rider: I’m not going to beat around the bush here. This is AWESOME. I love everything about this set. The cycle is an incredible design. The figure looks great independent of the bike, and the faux metallic finish is nice. There’s an insane of amount of new tooling on this thing; I can’t peg anything from the bike that’s been used before. The giant energy ball “front tire” is great. This is one of those rare occasions that I’m going to write less and let the pictures speak for me.

Personal Note: We all know what’s up out there. Figure reviews might be few and far between for a bit. Everyone stay in and stay safe. The column is no fun without you.

Really, the title says everything you need to know about this series. It’s utterly insane as the cosmic infused version of Ghost Rider aka Frank Castle aka the Punisher decides he can change Thanos’ destiny.
