A Comic Book Artist Is Murdered And The Suspects Are Characters From His Own Book! Meta is coming soon from Scout

Characters killing their authors. Authors trafficking their characters to be sex workers in the real world. Actors morally abusing characters they play. Real people illegally settling in cartoons so as to never age again. That’s just a regular Tuesday for our META agents. The Metalinguistic Crimes Division patrols the borders between our world and the many universes of comics, cinema, games, theater, literature, and other narrative media.
 
When a comic book artist is murdered in a weird fashion, META takes the case. Alan, the victim’s brother-in-law and a frustrated, wannabe writer, gets involved in the investigation, and discovers he can somehow enter comic books at will. He also starts unlocking repressed memories from his childhood, when he lived in several fictional worlds.  Now, Alan and META need to work together to find Alan’s kidnapped sister, before she suffers the same fate as her late boyfriend.

Meta is a new comic series from writer Marcelo Saravá, artist André Freitas, colorist Omar Viñole, letterer Deyvison Manes, and edited by Andrea Lorenzo Molinari.

Bush Leaguers step up to the plate from Scout

The Brooklyn Bridegrooms baseball team are the shame of turn-of-the-century New York, and they’ve embarrassed the team’s owner, Cornelius Vanderklam, for the last time. Fed up with the failure, embarrassment, and threats from the police, Van Der Klam hatches a plan to burn down the stadium, collect an insurance check, and be done with the team once-and-for-all.

Most of the team are oblivious to Van Der Klam’s plan, but one, player, Skip Lapwhistle is determined to save the team. For Skip, a young, former seamstress, who escaped life in the sweatshop, and dons a mustache as a disguise, the team is all she has.

While wandering the city in search of a solution, Skip stumbles upon a ringer, Rube Shaw, a lost country bumpkin who wants to try out for one of the Bridegrooms rivals. Skip tricks Rube into auditioning for the Bridegrooms, instead, but before Skip can whisk Rube away, they run into trouble with the law – Police Commissioner Theodore Roosevelt, who has other plans for them.

Go Beyond the Beyond in 2022

Nova Vega was rendered an orphan after her legendary space explorer parents vanished on their final mission to find the next Earth. Now at 16 years old, Nova resides on a mining colony ruled by Omni, a repressive, robotics corporation. Nova’s inability to follow the rules of society has put her at odds with her older brother and guardian, Sirius. Sirius resents the life his parents led, and fully conforms to Omni.
 
When an argument between the siblings goes too far, Nova decides to enact her long awaited plan to explore the alien world from where her parents have never returned. Fearing for the safety of his sister, Sirius chases after her, in turn learning the true nature of the corporation he’s trusted his whole life. What both siblings fail to realize, is that the eye of Omni is always watching.

In the midst of his confusion, the one constant in his life has been a comic book character that he created and has drawn since he was a kid. Bo gets into an accident—and that’s when everything changes. Around about this time, a mysterious character suddenly appears in Oakcago, but is this in the real world or simply all in Bo’s head?

The Life and Death of the Brave Captain Suave is Coming Soon from Scout

Scout Comics has announced The Life and Death of the Brave Captain Suave. The series is a modern-day retelling of Don Quixote, in which a homeless man imagines himself a Golden Age–style superhero and drags a skeptical young drug addict on a series of adventures.

Set in Cleveland, the series follows a homeless man who lost his job and then his family, driving him into a vagrant state of disillusionment and comic book fantasy. Yet his actions will leave readers questioning who is really crazy. Is it so insane to want to help people, or does the true madness lie with those who see suffering and choose to look the other way? The story loosely follows the satirical, metatextual plot of Cervantes’s classic.

The Life and Death of the Brave Captain Suave is written by Joseph Sieracki with art by Kelly Williams, lettering by Taylor Esposito, and edited by Andrea Lorenzo Molinari.

Lunar Ladies Launches This July From Scout Comics!

The Lunar Ladies opens with a heated ray gun battle between Queen Velouria and a lunatic scientist named Venus Verga. Velouria flees to prehistoric Earth with her lover, Star, and her young daughter, Clare. Velouria bestows the moon’s greatest treasure to Clare – a powerful talisman that must stay in the possession of the royal bloodline.

Mad with bloodlust, Venus gives chase with an army of bio-engineered male clones that land on prehistoric Earth. This sets the stage for an epic conflict between Venus’ army and a rag-tag coalition of lunar ladies, prehistoric humans and native Earth animals. In the time of greatest need, Clare harnesses the power of the moonstone talisman to deliver a crushing blow to Venus’ forces.

A million years ago, in outer space, a highly-advanced society of women lives under the surface of the moon. Their peaceful way of living is quietly fracturing from the inside, as political ideologies pit the queen of the moon against a geneticist hell bent on usurping the queen’s power. The Lunar Ladies is an homage to the public domain character, Moon Girl, complete with Golden Age ray guns and laser rays. Pew-pew!

No Ghosts in Hiroshima is Out this June from Scout Comics

Hell doesn’t always come in a hand basket; sometimes it comes in a briefcase. Guilt is the greatest ghost of them all. For James Henricherson, the guilt of a mistake made many years ago continues to haunt him. It dogs his every move. It keeps him from sleeping. He believes he has condemned an innocent soul to eternal suffering and pain. And he has worked for years to invent a way to free this soul from Hell itself. But Henricherson’s attempts and his theoretical success has stirred the condemned souls of Hell, who see this as a way to get power in Hell.

Gabriel’s quest to fulfill his mentor’s last request takes him and his girlfriend onto the California Highway (Route 666), where they find that they are being followed and threatened by demons who make ‘Road Rage’ seem like a walk in the park. While on the run, they discover that they may hold the key to escaping Hell itself.

Gabriel is convinced that the men searching for the secrets of his former mentor’s experiments are no men at all. They are demons hellbent on getting their hands on what they believe could indeed be an escape from Hell. Welcome To The World Of Flogoria! The Traveler Is Coming Soon

The Traveler is an epic, alien world-spanning adventure that’s part Mad Max road movie, part Stand by Me coming of age journey, and part otherworldly travel and food show. It’s the story of an average joe, trying to survive in a world that’s 100% not average and 150% not Earth.

The small harbor town of Lytteltoon is moderately famous for one thing: The Kangalang Harbor Monster. Ever since the first sighting in 1855, tens of people have come to the area hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive creature. Last year, young Jimmy Brongle said he saw it, but that ended up being a lazy duck sitting atop a discarded sex doll.

We follow Harry Blandford as he attempts to navigate his way through the fantastic world of Flogoria. But the bizarre flora, fauna, and customs of his new environment aren’t the only things he has to contend with. He also has to learn to overcome the fears and anxieties of his, at times, uncooperative mind.

Harry Blandford’s boss at The Creekchurch Press is busy working on a story about an old lady and a potato that looks like Tom Jones. So Harry (the newspaper’s graphic designer) has been lumped with the task of taking some fresh photos of Jork Smithe, an old sea dog that’s been telling tales about the Kangalang for decades.

He’s not a photographer or a journalist, so Harry’s already out of his comfort zone, and Harry Blandford hates being out of his comfort zone. He just wants to get in, take some passable photos, and get out. Then he can get back to the office, so he can pretend to work, while he looks at pictures of overweight animals on the internet.
But Harry won’t be seeing any chonky raccoons or chubby marmots anytime soon. It turns out the Kangalang is very real, and he’s going to meet it in the very near future.

Whether he’s fighting off badlands bandits, trying to sneak past a nest of Snark Dragons, learning how to fire a Zarboogian Nork Rifle, or just trying to order lunch at a Flogorian restaurant, nothing is going to be easy for Harry Blandford.

The Shepherd #1 is a solid debut that’s hampered a bit with a split of artists.

Scout Comics & Entertainment Inc. Continues to Grow With New Hires

Scout Comics & Entertainment Inc. has announced multiple new executive hires to fill out its ranks as the company sees growth in its sixth year of business.  

Lesa Miller has come on as Scout’s Chief Operating Officer. Lesa earned her Juris Doctor degree from Stetson University School of Law in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1996, and went on to co-found and manage two successful law practices while also co-founding and managing a flourishing commercial property management company. Lesa has also practiced law in Florida for nearly two decades. Learning the coding language HTML in the 1990s, Lesa is also an accomplished computer programmer and website designer and is certified as a circuit civil mediator. 

Trent Miller joins as the new General Counsel of Scout Comics. Trent graduated from the Delaware School of Law in 1997, earning Dean’s Honors and passing the Florida Bar the same year. A member in good standing of the Florida Bar, certified circuit civil mediator, and a Florida litigator for nearly 25 years, Trent began his career at a large Miami-based law firm, working his way up to partnership before establishing his own successful law practice in 2007. Having litigated thousands of cases, Trent has represented some of the most prominent companies, clients, and insurance carriers in America. A highly experienced trial lawyer, Trent has appeared, presented, and argued thousands of motions, hearings, and full-blown trials as lead counsel. Trent has also briefed appeals to the Florida’s First District Court of Appeals and participated in cases briefed to the Florida Supreme Court and the Delaware Supreme Court. 

Megan Marsden has come on as Scout’s new Marketing Liaison. Megan’s comics career began by joining the Diamond Comic Distributors marketing team in April 2016. Her tenure in the marketing department included advertisement sales, public relations, representing the Previews brand at trade shows, and assisting in the planning and creation of Free Comic Book Day and Halloween ComicFest content. Megan joined Diamond’s print purchasing team in October 2018 as a brand manager to many independent publishers, including Scout Comics. 

Joel Rodriguez is Scout’s new Head of Design. Joel has a background in comic production as a letterer and graphic designer. He has enjoyed crowdfunding success with his comic series THE DUSK COUNTY CHRONICLES through his production company, Metal Ninja Studios. Joel also runs Brink of Reality Productions, through which he helps new and seasoned creators realize their dreams of bringing their comics to life.

Andrea Lorenzo Molinari joins the company as Editorial Director. Andrea is a co-writer/ co-creator of THE SHEPHERD graphic novel series with Scout Comics’ horror imprint Black Caravan. Molinari received his Ph.D. from Marquette University with a specialty in ancient religious history and literature. His previous academic writings include four books and numerous popular and scholarly articles, and he also holds a B.A. in Journalism.  In addition, Molinari also has served as a submissions editor and project editor for Caliber Comics since 2016, as editor for the Spanish publisher, Amigo Comics (Málaga, Spain) since 2019, and has done editing work for Action Lab and Behemoth Comics.
