Wesley Snipes’ The Exiled #1 gets over 40,000 orders with time to go

The Exiled #1

Whatnot Publishing has announced that they’ve received strong initial orders of over 40,000 units for The Exiled #1 by Wesley Snipes, Keith Arem, Adam Lawson, and artist Eskivo. The comic book co-created by the star and producer of the Blade franchise is Whatnot Publishing’s highest initial order cutoff to date. This signifies tremendous potential for the book considering that it is still over a month away from its final order cutoff on January 9th and a release date of February 8th. The initial orders are split between 35,000 copies at Diamond comics distributors and 5,000 in retailer exclusives. Only one month after announcing 105,000 units and a second print for Ninja Funk #1, Whatnot Publishing’s first creator owned book, The Exiled #1 is on track to break this record for the new publisher. Whatnot Publishing, a collaboration between Massive Publishing and Whatnot Inc, only began releasing books three months ago and is already confirming its place as one of the top-selling Diamond publishers.

Wesley Snipes described his book as ‘’Blade Runner meets Seven’’ and he is already in talks with multiple studios for the on-screen adaptation of the comic series.

The Exiled #1 offered variant covers by fan-favorite artists like Kyle Hotz and a super limited 1000 copy incentive signed by Wesley Snipes with art by Bosslogic. A rare opportunity to get a signature from the movie star, the incentive will be printed on a higher paper stock, with a numbered certificate of Authentication and signature witnessed by CGC.

Review – After Dark #1

Bookmark and Share

Earth is destroyed and a group of mercenaries must head out into the scorched planet to retrieve a messiah who just might be humanities last hope.  After Dark #1 contains a plot and cast of characters that are very much been there and done that.

From celebrated director Antoine Fuqua (Brooklyn’s Finest, Training Day), acclaimed actor Wesley Snipes (Blade) and award-winning writer Peter Milligan (X-Statix, Skreemer) comes the post-apocalyptic saga of After Dark!

Guided by an amoral drifter, a crew of jaded mercenaries must travel into the dark places of the ruined planet, and the even darker places of their own pasts, on a journey to find a woman who might just save the world. But maybe the world is past saving. And maybe the people who still inhabit that world aren’t worth saving. After Dark is a story of hidden demons and the passion for survival, set in a future that could very well be ours.

If you take a pot of rehashed post-apocalyptic movies and stereotypical characters and threw them together, this is the comic book series you’d get.  It’s not that it’s bad in any way, to me, there’s just nothing that makes it stand out as a buy or a read.

Coming from Antoine Fuqua, Wesley Snipes and Peter Milligan I expected more.  And maybe the names created an unfair higher standard?  But to me the series screams as a three issue treatment for a future movie project.

Overall, pretty ho-hum.
