NYCC 2024: M3GAN’s Akela Cooper is bringing Bad Idea’s The Lot to the Big Screen

Bad Idea has announced that they are adapting their celebrated comic book series, The Lot, into a feature film. Bad Idea has tapped blockbuster screenwriter Akela Cooper to script. Cooper’s resume boasts a list of critical and commercial hits including James Wan’s Malignant, The Nun II, and the M3GAN franchise. Cooper scripted the sequel, M3GAN 2.0, which is set for release next summer. The film will be produced by Dinesh Shamdasani and Benjamin Simpson for Bad Idea, alongside Akela Cooper. Development financing comes from Smartest Termite and producers Andrew Gallina and Shahin Chandrasoma.

The Lot is a horror story set in the most miserable, vicious pit of vipers — a Hollywood studio lot.

Aviva Copeland has just landed the biggest job of her career, running a Hollywood studio — one of the few black women to do so. But this is no ordinary studio because its backlot harbors the since abandoned soundstage where decades ago an authenticity-obsessed legendary filmmaker hired actual cult members to perform a real-life occult ritual for his latest horror masterpiece. Something evil awoke that day and in the bloody aftermath, the production was permanently shut down, the footage suppressed, and the soundstage that bore witness shuttered…until now. Aviva is about to learn that though the lot may have been closed for a half-century, it’s far from empty.

The Lot from writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Renato Guedes was published in 2021 as part of Bad Idea’s first wave of comics. Bad Idea will be at New York Comic Con this weekend and will be discussing The Lot at their panel presentation on Saturday, Oct 19th at 3:00pm, in Room 408 where they will also be giving away a limited New York Comic Con exclusive edition of The Lot #1 featuring a new cover by EM Carroll. The NYCC edition also includes a new Hank Howard, Pizza Detective story by Robert Venditti and David Lapham.

Monster Kill Squad #2 Delayed Until October 13

Bad Idea has announced that Monster Kill Squad will see delays for its four issues. Issue #2 will arrive Wednesday, October 13th, issue #3 on Wednesday, November 10th, and #4 will comes to shops on Wednesday, December 8th.

Pyrate Queen #2 and The Lot #4 will still be released on October 6.

Monster Kill Squad is written by Christos Gage with art by Tomas Giorello, colors by Diego Rodriguez, and cover by Lewis Larosa and Rodriguez.

Once upon a time, monster attacks were rare. A forest witch might murder a few hikers, a killer clown might eat a few children, or a malevolent ghost might drive a young couple insane just for the hell of it. But these events were scarce, easily covered up, and soon faded into campfire stories good for a laugh.

But no one’s laughing now. Over the past 90 days, cryptozoological attacks have increased a hundredfold, and the arcane has become everyday. Monsters of every shape and size strike at will, and the good, taxpaying folks of the US of A have had enough of this nonsense.

Enter: THE MONSTER KILL SQUAD. A Government Unit of the most dangerous motherfuckers on the planet, the deadliest folks alive are here to put a bullet in the brain of everything that walks, crawls, flies, or hides in shadows. Bad Idea’s Hero Trade: Passive/Aggressive is Delayed

Bad Idea has announced that Hero Trade: Passive/Aggressive is being pushed back two weeks. The comic will now be available, on Wednesday, August 18th.

This Wednesday, two other comics, The Lot #2 and Tankers #3 will be available from the publisher.

Bad Idea has also announced that a “first customer gold pin” will be available for Hero Trade: Passive/Aggressive. In addition, some of the “final five” releases from the publisher will also feature “first customer gold pins”.
