Tarzan Beyond swings into comic shops in 2026

Alien Books has announced that Tarzan will be joining its growing library of licenses with all-new series and specials planned for release in 2026.

The all-new Tarzan comics will be produced in collaboration with the team at Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. and sold into direct market comic shops through Alien’s sub-distribution partnership with IDW Publishing, beginning with Tarzan Beyond by writer Steve Orlando and artist Renato Guedes. Covers by Agustin Alessio, Dustin Nguyen, Noobovich, Federico Mele, and Juan José Ryp have been revealed.

Tarzan Beyond, set in a new alternative universe, will showcase a wiser and older Tarzan and Jane, who have aged over many years of adventures but retain their youthful appearance thanks to the Waters of Kavuru. Together, they use their resources and knowledge to protect the world’s flora and fauna from destruction. Tarzan and Jane’s peaceful existence will be threatened when the nefarious Blackbeard the Pirate and his crew lay siege to his homeland in search of the secrets of immortality!

Additional details on Tarzan Beyond will be shared in the months to come.

Future plans for Tarzan include special crossover one-shots and more as the Alien Books team seeks to leverage creative partnerships across the industry and deliver exciting and never-before-seen moments for readers and fans.

SDCC 2022: The Lord of the Jungle Rises with Dan Jurgens

The mighty Lord of the Jungle returns to roar! Dynamite invites fans to swing through the vines and beat their chests in anticipation of a visceral new series starring the one and only Tarzan, written by industry superstar Dan Jurgens!

Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs and introduced in the October 1912 issue of The All-Story Magazine, Tarzan quickly became a cultural icon! Jurgens comes on to help commemorate the 110th Anniversary of this iconic character! But that is not the only anniversary that this first issue will be commemorating.

Alongside artist Benito Gallego, Jurgens will reestablish Tarzan in the eyes of longtime fans and show how badass and entertaining he is to new readers alike. Across the series, the prototypical jungle action hero’s entire life will be traced, from birth to adulthood. A framing device secondary tale weaves between the core story, as an older Tarzan reflects on his life and the changing world around him, reflecting contemporary concerns that continue to this day.

Get to know the legacy of Tarzan, from his aristocratic background and eventual flirtations back with that lifestyle, to his early days raised by the apes, and his fearsome rivalries with man and beast alike. What will become of this man in his savage world?

The series features an all-star cast of cover artist friends and colleagues of Jurgens, including Gary Frank, Lee Weeks, Dan Panosian, and Josh Burns.

Lord of the Jungle #1 is slated for release in November 2022.

Lords of the Jungle Unites Tarzan and Sheena for the First Time

Edgar Rice Burroughs‘ original jungle hero Tarzan joins the comic industry’s first leading lady, Sheena, for the first time ever! Dynamite Entertainment, known for bold, modern interpretations of classic pulp characters, bring together wilderness royalty in Lords of the Jungle, a thrilling miniseries slated to debut on March 16, 2016. Written by Corinna Bechko with interior art by Roberto Castro, Lords of the Jungle features two covers for its first issue, by series artist Castro and industry legend Alex Ross respectively.

Tarzan has long been the protector of his jungle stronghold, but this time the fight has to be taken to his enemy’s territory, deep in the heart of London. Half a world away and nearly a century later, Sheena is battling foes of her own when she is mysteriously swept through time and space to 1930’s Africa, leaving her own land unprotected. Will these two Lords of the Jungle find enough common ground to join forces? Or will the resulting culture clash lead to mutual destruction?

Joe Kubert’s Tarzan of the Apes: Artist’s Edition coming in September from IDW

Joe Kubert’s Tarzan of the Apes: Artist’s Edition coming in September from IDW

Celebrate the 100th anniversary of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic creation

[Tarzan Artist Edition Cover]San Diego, CA (May 18, 2012) – Joe Kubert is one of the most lauded artists in the history of comics, a true living legend. He has been a vital creative force since the 1940s and remains so to this day. He has had defining runs on Hawkman, Enemy Ace, Tor, Sgt. Rock, and many others. Among his career highlights is Tarzan of the Apes, and Kubert‘s rendition could arguably be called the definitive comic adaptation of the Ape-man.

“To have the Tarzan stories I drew commemorate the 100th anniversary of a strip I fell in love with as a kid is the thrill of a lifetime,” said Joe Kubert, writer and artist of all the stories in this Artist’s Edition.

This Artist’s Edition collects six complete Kubert Tarzan adventures, including the classic four-part origin story. Each page is vividly reproduced from the original art and presented as no comics readers have seen before. For fans of Kubert and Tarzan, this new entry in the Eisner-winning Artist’s Edition line must be seen to be believed!

2012 is the centennial year for Tarzan. Created by master storyteller Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan is instantly recognizable to countless fans around the globe. Other notable creations of Burroughs’ include John Carter of Mars, Korak, Carson of Venus, and At the Earth’s Core.

“I first read these comics when I was 10 years old, and they remain some of my favorite stories ever,” said Editor Scott Dunbier, “this is Joe Kubert at his absolute best.”

What is an Artist’s Edition? Artist’s Editions are printed the same size as the original art. While appearing to be in black & white, each page has been scanned in COLOR to mimic as closely as possible the experience of viewing the actual original art—for example, you are able to clearly see paste-overs, blue pencils in the art, editorial notes, and art corrections. Each page is printed the same size as drawn, and the paper selected is as close as possible to the original art board.

JOE KUBERT’S TARZAN OF THE APE: ARTIST’S EDITION ($100, hardcover, black and white, 156 pages, 12” x 17”) will be available in stores September 2012.

Lord Of The Jungle Begins In December!

Official Press Release

dynamite logoLORD OF THE JUNGLE BEGINS IN DECEMBER!

EXPANSION OF EDGAR RICE BURROUGH’S CLASSIC TALE!

September 21, 2011, Runnemede, NJ – The original Lord of the Jungle returns! Dynamite is proud to announce the December release of Lord of the Jungle! Dynamite’s Lord of the Jungle is true to Edgar Rice Burroughs original tale, savage, violent, and uncensored for the first time in its 100 year history!  We are so proud and excited about this book, that we are offering the first FULL issue for the introductory price of just $1.00!

Based on the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs adventure story, Tarzan of the Apes, the first of his famous series, which initially began publication in All Story Magazine in 1912.  The saga of Greystoke begins in December, written by Arvid Nelson and illustrated by Roberto Castro, and featuring covers by Alex Ross, Lucio Parillo, Ryan Sook, and Paul Renaud!

“Tarzan’s DNA is in everything from super heroes to space epics,” says writer Arvid Nelson.  “But I was surprised at how little I knew about him, because the many adaptations wander very far from the original character. His true story is so much deeper and more interesting — that’s we’re trying to bring to life in Lord of the Jungle.”

“To allow the series to be accessible to fans old and new, we are offering the first issue at the Introductory Price of $1.00 for the full ENTIRE 32 page comic, as well as dedicating both of the Dynamite front gate folds of the October shipping Previews Magazine to our launch,” says Dynamite Entertainment President and Publisher Nick Barrucci. “Get on board for the biggest comic book launch this December!”
