Rick Remender and Steve Epting Pack a Punch with Hammerfist

Reservoir Dogs collides with Evil Dead in a filthy crime story that mutates into a savage splatter-horror nightmare from New York Times bestselling author Rick Remender and acclaimed artist Steve Epting, with colors by Matt Hollingsworth, in the upcoming Hammerfist. This all-new ongoing series is set to launch this August from Image Comics.

Hammerfist will launch with a lineup of jaw-dropping variant covers by such superstar artists as Jerome Opeña, Nic Klein, Dan Panosian, Daniel Acuña, Andrew Robinson, and more as well as a blank sketch cover and a special foil-treated version of Robinson’s cover art.

In Hammerfist, readers meet Mike Denton: a dirtbag hitman, junkie, and absentee father. He’s spent his life chasing the easy fix—drugs, cheap sex, and murder for money—all while failing the one person who still believes he can be better: his daughter.

Now, on the eve of Black Noon—an ancient darkness that erases the light in all things—Mike has to drag himself out of the gutter, awaken a supernatural weapon powered only by love, and fight his way through the living embodiment of evil to save her. This is the story of an unredeemable killer forced to do the one thing he’s avoided his entire life: stand for something other than himself.

Hammerfist #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, August 26.

Liminal, based off of the comic Telepaths by J. Michael Straczynski, Steve Epting, and Brian Reber, moves forward with Apple Original Films

Telepaths

The new sci-fi thriller Liminal will star Vanessa Kirby and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and will be directed by Louis Leterrier. The film is based on the critically acclaimed AWA graphic novel Telepaths by J. Michael StraczynskiSteve Epting, and Brian Reber.

In Telepaths, an electromagnetic disturbance results in the sudden awakening of telepathic powers in a tenth of the Earth’s population. In the moments after the world comes to grip with this development, newly-telepathic Boston police find themselves sent against a wrongly convicted prisoner who becomes a hero and leader of other telepaths trying to escape a world in which their powers will make them targets. Both are heroes of their own story, and the future may depend on whether or not trust can be found between them.

For AWA, this is an exciting next step for a story that began on the page and is now moving forward with an extraordinary team behind it. Zach Studin will produce for AWA Studios, with Kevin Walsh producing for The Walsh Company. The project is written by Justin Rhodes, with J. Michael StraczynskiSteve Epting, and Brian Reber serving as executive producers.

Partisan is one of the best this year, an amazing graphic novel from Garth Ennis and Steve Epting

1941. Aleksandra, a blacksmith’s wife, is thirty when the German invasion comes. With her husband in the army, she and her son and daughter are left to fend for themselves. And when a brutal campaign of genocide begins, her only hope is to join the partisans. Travel Back to Marvel’s Landmark Dystopian Future in X-Men: Tales From the Age of Apocalypse

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Age of Apocalypse, the milestone X-Men event that took the ‘90s by storm and influenced the medium forever, including the X-Men’s upcoming Age of Revelation event and the highly anticipated sequel series by Jeph Loeb and Simone Di Meo, X-Men of Apocalypse, which kicks off next month. In addition, Marvel Comics will commemorate the milestone this November with X-Men: Tales From The Age of Apocalypse #1, a one-shot collecting the first issues of four of the original event’s key series: Astonishing X-Men #1, Factor X #1Weapon X #1, and Amazing X-Men #1.

In 1995, Marvel shocked the comics-reading world, canceling all its blockbuster X-titles and replacing them with new series in the transformed reality of the Age of Apocalypse! These tales, by some of the era’s leading creators, introduced fans to radically new versions of the heroes they loved – fighting for survival in a nightmarish dystopia where Charles Xavier is long dead! Professor X was killed twenty years in the past during a freak time-travel accident, and now the Darwinian conqueror Apocalypse rules with an iron fist – ruthlessly enforcing his dictum that only the strong shall survive! In the long shadow of En Sabah Nur, hidden among a downtrodden humankind, are a group of ragtag freedom fighters led by Xavier’s oldest friend: Magneto! They’re amazing, they’re astonishing – but who are the X-Men?! Plus: What has become of iconic mutants Cyclops, Havok and Wolverine in this war-torn world?

Fantastic Four: Solve Everything has great ideas but overall fizzles

Superstar writer Jonathan Hickman revamps and redefines Marvel’s First Family in a sweeping and epic saga that crosses time, space and reality — but still finds its themes in family. And it all begins when Mister Fantastic decides to solve everything!

A series of amazing revelations come together in quick succession: The Old Kingdom of Atlantis is discovered under thick Antarctic ice. Alien “Inhumans” from throughout the galaxy converge on Earth. A race of super-intelligent underground dwellers takes possession of a high-tech laboratory. And a religious cult in Manhattan threatens to cause an interdimensional invasion.

Fate will play an awful hand in tying these disparate events together in a gripping drama that tests the fortitude of Marvel’s First Family like never before.
