Cataclysm Arcade launches an Early Bird Depositor Exclusive Ahead of its Crowdfunding Campaign

Mothership Games premiered their inaugural game Cataclysm Arcade trading card game at GAMA earlier this year to universal praise, following an initial sneak peek at PAX Unplugged last year. This game will be the first step toward pairing filmmakers with top game and product designers to expand this property into tomorrow’s most exciting new entertainment franchise. 

Co-concepted and created by gaming legend Brian David Marshall and Jay Van Hoy, known for his work on such acclaimed feature films The Witch and The Lighthouse, the two have created a world that honors the best of modern storytelling and the retro chic of 1980’s VHS nostalgia, thanks to the jaw dropping art of comic book illustrators Steve Ellis, ChrisCross, Benjamin Dewey, Zach Howard, Nelson Daniel, Jason Masters, Juan Doe and DAF along with TCG illustrators like Ellis, Andre Garcia, Adriano Kitane, Tim Gaedke, Samuel Alexander, and Neon Pennington.

The game imagines a world in which an unknown event brought about the near end of humanity in 1986, where pockets of survivors linger in the New York City subway tunnels. Some of these survivors compete in a gladiatorial bloodsport broadcast through old subway system speakers, closed circuit broadcast, and ham radios. A train rolls up, a Boss steps out, and the winner of the ensuing brawl gets to ride the train to the next stop. The goal of Cataclysm Arcade is simple: be the last Boss standing. The cutie pie corgi pups just want to snuggle. They cluster and clamber, making adorable doggie pyramids. Sadly, it’s not always so easy to climb and some pups will be left below the pile. But at the end of the day, for a little corgi pup, that may not be such a bad thing. After all, no one wants to fall off the top of a big corgi pileup!

Corgi Pileup is a trick-taking game in which only the last trick counts. During each trick, you must “climb” by playing cards greater than or equal to the highest card played so far, or else play your lowest card. Each round, you score your final card and increase your score. Rounds are played until someone’s score exceeds 15. All players whose score exceeds 15 lose, and the remaining player with the highest score wins.

The Toxic Avenger adds variant editions featuring a collectible trading card by Steve Ellis

Due to the success of The Toxic Avenger — starring the satirical hero of the Troma Films cult classic films — AHOY Comics is announcing a collectible trading card by acclaimed artist Steve Ellis, to be included in a newly added special variant edition of issue #2. Ellis, a Magic: The Gathering card artist, brings his prodigious talents to the all-new 5-issue comic book series by Matt Bors and artist Fred Harper. The Toxic Avenger #1 Cover D, which features a collectible trading card by Harper, will debut October 9, with The Toxic Avenger #2 Cover D featuring Ellis’ collectible trading card following on November 13.

In The Toxic Avenger, teenager Melvin Junko helps run his parent’s junkyard in Tromaville, a small town in New Jersey where nothing much ever happens — until an ill-timed train derailment of toxic waste transforms Melvin into a hideously deformed creature of superhuman size and strength: the Toxic Avenger! Under a media blackout imposed by Biohazard Solutions (BS) and their PR-spewing Chairwoman Lindsay Flick, Melvin emerges as a hero fighting against BS and the mutated threats that keep popping up around Tromaville. Eventually Melvin uncovers a vast conspiracy more far-reaching than he could have ever imagined — but he knows if everyone is simply made aware of the crisis, they’ll act to stop it. Right?
