Who are The Unbelievables? Ghost Machine’s First Crossover Kicks Off in May

The Unbelievables

Image Comics and Ghost Machine have revealed The Unbelievables which debuts this May. This rebranding and expansion of one of Ghost Machine’s four original universes—formerly known as Family Odysseys—will be anchored by the critically acclaimed ongoing series The Rocketfellers by Peter J. Tomasi and Francis Manapul and Hornsby & Halo by Tomasi and Peter Snejbjerg. Joining The Unbelievables Universe will be The Trillion Dollar Kid by Geoff Johns, Tomasi, and Stefano Simeone.

To mark the unveiling of The Unbelievables, both The Rocketfellers and Hornsby & Halo will release special issue #0s in May—prologues to the event as well as standalone entry points designed to welcome new readers while revealing secrets for longtime fans.

Then in June those worlds collide as the four-part crossover event “WHO ARE THE UNBELIEVABLES?” which begins introducing several major new characters joining the line, including The Trillion Dollar Kid. Created by Geoff Johns, Peter J. Tomasi, and Francis Manapul, The Trillion Dollar Kid serves as both a guide and catalyst—linking characters, stories, and lore as the true scope of The Unbelievables begins to reveal itself.

Driven by the Trillion Dollar Kid’s search for the one thing money can’t buy, the four-part “WHO ARE THE UNBELIEVABLES?” brings together the Rocketfeller family, Rose Hornsby, and Zachary Halo in an incredible adventure while laying the foundation for what comes next.

Among those being introduced are The Deadtones, a rock band of misfit monsters on the run; The Curious Creatures of Dr. Moreau, because sometimes life needs to get a little wild; Jean Genie, a genie finally free from her endless existence of servitude and now coming to grips with what freedom means in the modern world; and a whole lot more, as seen on the newly revealed UNBELIEVABLES map.

Additionally, Ghost Machine Guidebook #3, hitting shelves in June, will spotlight THE UNBELIEVABLES and feature covers by Gary Frank, Bryan Hitch, and Ivan Reis.

GHOST MACHINE ZERO ISSUES:

  • Hornsby & Halo #0: Who Are the Unbelievables? Prologue One by Tomasi, Snejbjerg, John Kalisz, Leigh
  • The Rocketfellers #0Who Are the Unbelievables? Prologue Two by Tomasi, Manapul, Leigh

GHOST MACHINE CROSSOVER EVENT:

  • The Trillion Dollar Kid #1Who Are the Unbelievables? Part One by Johns, Tomasi, Simeone, Leigh

  • Ghost Machine The Official Guidebook #3: The Unbelievables by Johns, Tomasi, Manapul, Snejbjerg

Who are The Unbelievables? Across the world, people with remarkable—and sometimes inconceivable—abilities and beginnings, all try to hide behind ordinary lives. A time-traveling family lost in the present. Two teenagers destined to rule Heaven and Hell. A trillionaire kid chasing the one thing money can’t buy. And many, many more—each on a personal and exciting odyssey shaped by the impossible. What binds them isn’t their secrets, but the bonds they forge—love, friendship, and sacrifice—as dangerous forces rise to exploit what the world will come to know as…THE UNBELIEVABLES.

No Place #3 is packed with a lot of info, action, and some fantastic art

N.O. Place Director Dorothy Gale is a caring leader and she did warn them there would be primates, but Mari and Allen could never have prepared for this fight for their lives against swimming monkeys in the sewer system.

Meanwhile, the boss herself comes face-to-face with the Wicked Witch of the Deep. The wounds that follow will cut to the core, revealing an unexpected connection between N.O. Place’s world-saving efforts and the devastation at their doorstep.

And as the Old Gods work through Adamik to seize control of Chicago, it’s one step forward, two giant leaps back on Mari’s mission to make amends with her family.

No Place #2 has a cool mix of X-Files and classic fantasy stories

It’s Mariposa Montiel’s first day on the job with Nether Operations Place, a shadow organization responsible for protecting Earth against invasions from other realms.

This is the new purpose Mari’s been craving since she returned to the hostile real world after three years of thriving as a living legend in a magical alternate-dimension jungle paradise. It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, but Mari’s intensely intellectual field partner, Allen Dion, is openly envious of her first-hand experience with the extraordinary; and her boss, Dorothy Gale—yes, THE Dorothy Gale of the Land of Oz—has little patience for learning curves and may be carrying some baggage of her own into the mission.

No pressure, right? Good thing there’s no time to wallow in self-doubt when a wicked aquatic presence has a hold on Chicago’s waterways and all eyes are on Mari to crack the case. Let the team-building begin!

No Place #1 is a solid debut that goes in an unexpected direction

Mariposa Montiel is having a cruel homecoming. As the daughter of immigrants, the outcast teenager is no stranger to scrutiny, but this is another level. Years after vanishing from her Chicago neighborhood, Mari has returned to a traumatized family and a media circus with nothing but a tiger-striped feather and an extraordinary tale of her time away as the champion of a magical jungle land called Mayahuela.

Mari is met as a fraud and her story makes her a stranger in her own life until an eccentric, high-tech organization known as N.O. Place emerges from the shadows and welcomes her home. Led by a legend of the Land of Oz, the secret agency has its finger on the pulse of so-called fictional worlds—and as its newest recruit, Mari is now called upon to save our own world from a creeping Lovecraftian nightmare.
