NYCC 2019: VIZ Media Announces New Manga, Novels, and More for 2020

VIZ Media expands its publishing catalog as it announced a wide range of new acquisitions set for summer 2020 release during its official panels held this past weekend at New York Comic Con.

New VIZ Signature titles arriving in summer 2020 include Maison Collector’s Edition, the definitive release of the classic Rumiko Takahashi series, Naoki Urasawa’s Mujirushi: The Sign of Dreams, and Ping Pong, the tale of two boys’ passion for table tennis from Eisner Award winner Taiyo Matsumoto. The inspiration for the Netflix Original series Kingdom, The Kingdom of the Gods, was also announced.

Shonen Jump titles announced at the Shonen Jump-dedicated panel include Masashi Kishimoto’s latest series Samurai 8: The Tale of Hachumaru; Act-Age, a gripping tale of an actor surviving her inner demons and Spy X Family, an action-packed comedy about a fake family that includes a spy, an assassin and a telepath. The official manga adaptation of the hit Rooster Teeth series RWBY: The Official Manga also receives a release as well as new novels from bestselling series Bleach, Naruto, and One Piece.

On the Shojo Beat side, new titles include Fushigi Yûgi: Byakko Senki, the final installment of the popular fantasy series and Not Your Idol, a thriller about a former idol dealing with a psychotic stalker.

Last but not least, the roster of titles includes How Do We Relationship?, a rom-com about two college women in a “fake” relationship, and the massive, full-color guide Monster Hunter: World – Official Complete Works, a must have for fans of the video game franchise.

Shojo Creator Bisco Hatori is a Guest of Honor at Anime Expo 2019

VIZ Media welcomes manga creator Bisco Hatori as an official Guest of Honor at this year’s Anime Expo

The creator of bestselling Shojo Beat manga such as Ouran High School Host Club, Millennium Snow, and her current series, Behind the Scenes!!, will have a dedicated panel and participate in an autograph session and other special fan events that are scheduled to take place during Anime Expo. Times, dates, and additional details on Bisco Hatori’s first professional appearance in North America will be announced soon.

Anime Expo is North America’s largest dedicated anime/manga fan convention and takes place July 4th–7th at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, CA. VIZ Media will be located on the main convention floor in Booth #2206.

Review: Ao Haru Ride Vol. 1

This week sees the release of the first volume of Ao Haru Ride from Io Sakisaka. The manga published by VIZ Media‘s Shojo Beat imprint is about Futaba Yoshioka who always thought boys were loud and obnoxious until she met Kou Tanaka.

The school focused manga is a John Hughes film meets manga.

VIZ Media Acquires Snow White With the Red Hair from Sorata Akizuki

VIZ Media announced its latest publishing acquisition, Snow White With the Red Hair, during its official panel held at Anime Weekend Atlanta this past weekend.

The series, by creator Sorata Akizuki, is rated ‘T’ for Teens and joins the Shojo Beat imprint scheduled to launch in the summer of 2019. The ongoing series, which has been published in Japan since 2007, also spawned a popular anime adaptation.

In Snow White With the Red Hair, Shirayuki is an herbalist with bright red hair. Raj, the prince of her kingdom, catches word of her beauty and demands that she marry him! But she refuses and runs away. While on the run, she meets a mysterious brave young man named Zen who turns out to be the prince of the neighboring kingdom. Zen insists that Shirayuki moves to his kingdom and so her journey to become a court herbalist begins!

Shortcake Cake is a New Shojo Manga Out August 7th

VIZ Media delivers a heartwarming story about love and friendship with the new shojo manga series Shortcake Cake on August 7th.

VIZ Media Announces Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits this Fall

VIZ Media expands its shojo manga catalog with the acquisition of Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits.

The supernatural romantic comedy will launch this Fall in print and digital editions under VIZ Media’s Shojo Beat imprint. The series is rated ‘T’ for Teens and features story and artwork by creator Wako Ioka, with character designs by Laruha. Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits is based on several light novels by author Midori Yuma and has also been adapted into an anime series. The new publishing acquisition was detailed during VIZ Media’s official panel held this past weekend during Anime Central 2018 in Chicago.

In Kakuriyo: Bed & Breakfast for Spirits, Aoi Tsubasa inherited her grandfather’s ability to see spirits – and his massive debt to them! Now she’s been kidnapped and taken to Kakuriyo, the spirit world, to make good on his bill. Her options: marry the head of the inn her grandfather trashed or get eaten by the supernatural creatures who work there. But Aoi isn’t the type to let spirits push her around, and she’s determined to redeem her grandfather’s IOU on her own terms!
