Second Sight Publishing Donates 1000 Comics to the Polk County School System

Second Sight Publishing

On April 29th, 2021, COO of Second Sight Publishing, Marcus Roberts, donated 1000 comic books to the Polk County School System. The books will be distributed throughout the school library system and used throughout the summer program.

Second Sight donated copies of Book of Lyaxia and Lady Freedom whose creators reside in Florida. Aron Pohara lives in Tampa, and Larry Jarrell resides in Orlando.

As Second Sight Publishing publishes entertainment for kids of all ages, Roberts saw this as an opportunity to provide an alternate reading source to help strengthen the reading skills of students.

Second Sight Publishing was created by Bradley Golden in 2016 and began building on an early catalog of horror comic stories. As he developed his own personal brand he signed on with Antarctic Press and brought his stories to a larger audience, as well as meeting other creators/writers like John Crowther, Larry Spike Jarrell, and Peter Breau. All the while teaming up with Marcus H. Roberts and launching Mississippi Zombie, published by Caliber Comics.

Second Sight Publishing is striving to build a catalog of new, intriguing, exciting and enjoyable titles that draw in our readers and keep its fans engaged.

Review: The Edge #1

The Edge #1

Infected by the super steroid The Edge, Revenant is on a rampage to eliminate Richard Tartabull. Can the strike team placed between them stop Revenant? Or will they all spread the infection of The Edge further?

You’re going to know whether The Edge #1 for you almost entirely by the front cover; there’s an almost eye-catching image of a hero standing at the door with a team behind him. The cover is largely pink, purple, and red, with the title being lost amidst the art, and the characters along the side blending in almost indistinctly with each other.

If you like the image, you’ll probably enjoy the comic, whereas if the cover doesn’t really interest or excite you, then you’re not going to find anything inside to change your mind.

The Edge #1 isn’t a bad comic in any way, but rather it’s a book that just falls flat. The story is okay, though nothing particularly brilliant nor original. That’s never a requirement for me to enjoy a book, but if the story and plot are familiar then the characters within need to stand out. These don’t. While the story is familiar, the dialogue is serviceable – at times stilted, were it not for the speech bubbles pointing to the character speaking, I’d be unable to distinguish who was supposed to be saying what.

Likewise, the art doesn’t really stand out, either. It’s better than anything I could do, and I am well aware of this, but there seems to be a lack of a certain spark or magic to the proceedings. It’s perfectly serviceable, and does nothing to make the comic any poorer, but nor does it elevate anything either.

This may sound like I didn’t enjoy The Edge #1, that I’m ragging on it just to rag, but the book isn’t actually bad – it’s just that for me it is not a particularly exciting comic, but it is one that’s worth a read if you’re interested in a superhero team book from an indie publisher. Hopefully, things click a little more for me in the second issue.

Second Sight Publishing and The Tygen Network Team for Chessmasters

Second Sight Publishing has teamed with The Tygen Network, which will be broadcasting on both Amazon Fire and ROKU, to publish the comic book title Chessmasters to coincide with the release of the Chessmasters animated series this June.

Chessmasters is a black superhero team thrust through different time periods to stop evil. The comic book series was created by the late Gary McClendon, who recently passed away from COVID-19, and co-written by CEO of Second Sight, Bradley Golden, who along with COO Marcus Roberts, will serve as cowriters and coproducers on the animated series with John Maurice from Tygen Network. Added to that, the Tygen Network has also worked out a lucrative deal with the independent publisher to produce movies, television shows, and other media from several of the company’s titles.

Second Sight Publishing and The Tygen Network will launch a Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaign, slated for March 31, 2021, with the funds going towards the production of the animated series for Chessmasters. Portions of the proceeds from the publication of the Chessmasters comic will go to the family of the late Gary McClendon.
