Valiant Wants you to Report Your Psi-Lords Sighting! The Tipline Is Open!

Is someone you know acting strangely? Exhibiting dangerous supernatural abilities? Are they surrounded by a bright glow? YOU MAY HAVE SEEN A PSI-LORD! Call 833-PSILRDS (833-774-5737) right away to report your sighting to the main Psi-Lords Defense Station—you may even speak live to one of our Starwatchers! Callers will be sent a special gift in thanks.

If you think you’ve spotted a Psi-Lord, here’s what to do!

  1. Dial 833-PSILRDS (833-774-5737).
  2. If you get a voice recording, provide your name, e-mail address, and the name of your local Psi-Lords Defense Station (comic book shop).
  3. If you get a live Starwatcher, stay calm and report your findings. They will be able to take down your information.

An official Starwatchers iron-on patch will be dispatched to those who dial in and leave their information. They can be picked up at the citizen’s local Psi-Lords Defense Station (comic book shop).

You can follow the efforts of the Starwatchers in PSI-LORDS, a monthly ongoing account (comic book series) provided by the official record keepers (writer Fred Van Lente and artist Renato Guedes, published by Valiant Entertainment). The first record (issue)—featuring the accounts of four, human astronauts—will be available on June 19th (with pre-orders due May 27th).

Valiant Entertainment has released the first 10 pages of Psi-Lords #1, the sensational sci-fi ongoing series by Fred Van Lente and Renato Guedes! The issue features lettering from Dave Sharpe and covers by Rod Reis, Jonboy Meyers, Alan Quah, Marco Rudy, and a pre-order edition cover by Paulina Ganucheau.

In the preview, four astronauts awake in an otherworldly prison with no memory of how they got there and quickly discover they have incredible abilities. What is their connection to the powerful cosmic beings called Psi-Lords? And how they will escape from their celestial captors?

Valiant has announced the Psi-Lords #1-12 Pre-Order Edition Bundle, giving readers an opportunity to reserve the first 12 issues of the publisher’s upcoming sci-fi mystery series to receive bonus content and exclusive covers, all for no additional cost.

Written by Fred Van Lente and illustrated by Renato Guedes, the Bundle is available to pre-order now at local comic book shops by the final order cutoff (FOC) date of Monday, May 27th. Issue #1 is set to debut on Wednesday, June 19th.

Advanced Review: Psi-Lords #1

But WHO are they? And where they heck are they?! Prepare for a cosmic adventure like no other! Seriously, it’s wild stuff.

Psi-Lords was teased in a Free Comic Book Day issue from… oh, at least a couple of years ago, now. To say that fans have been waiting a long time for the comic I’ve just read is a bit of an understatement. Having never read the original series from the original Valiant of the 90’s era, I have no basis for comparison or reference for these characters. I approached this as I would the first issue of any new property – with the expectation that all I need to know to enjoy the book will be within the book.

The book opens with four individuals in a high tech, or potentially alien, prison with little to no idea who they are. Guided by a disembodied voice, the four discover they have incredible powers, and may even be gods. What follows is a strangely disjointed prison escape tale that is little more than a couple of key moments surrounded by cliche designed to further the plot. And that’s the major gripe with this comic – it feels too much like Fred Van Lente is trying to get to a certain point that he’s moving the comic quickly while trying to provide some context, and it doesn’t work. Psi-Lords #1 is certainly not one of the writer’s finest works.

It isn’t quite clear what level of amnesia the characters have, nor why they only remember they have powers once they’re told about them – I’m willing to give the series the benefit of the doubt for another issue or two, but the writing doesn’t exactly fill me with confidence.

Thankfully, Renato Guedes is able to carry the load with some utterly phenomenal art. At the very least you need to see this book to believe it – it is breathtaking to watch Guedes navigate the characters through the unfamiliar environs and stark halls, the explosive action sequences leap from the page and pull your eyes into a comic you may have been otherwise tempted to ignore.

Psi-Lords #1 doesn’t require any real knowledge of the original series, but the plot doesn’t really stand out either. It’s a comic that is visually fantastic, but with a plot that barely rises above average. Whether it’s worth reading is up to you, but for me it wasn’t worth the wait.

Meet the Stars of Psi-Lords, Valiant’s New Sci-fi Action Series!

Valiant Entertainment is excited to share the identities of the main characters of its upcoming sci-fi action series, Psi-Lords, coming in June from writer Fred Van Lente and artist Renato Guedes. The character designs were rendered by concept artist Jonathan Arthur Ashley.

Meet Artisan, Beacon, Hazard, and Tank, four brand-new characters being added to the Valiant Universe! Are they the actual Psi-Lords? If not, who are the Psi-Lords, and what does this quartet have to do with them? More will be revealed in the coming weeks during the lead-up to the June 19 debut of Psi-Lords #1!

For now, here’s what Fred Van Lente has to say about each character:

“Artisan is one of these guys who’s never had to do a hard day’s work in his life because he charms his way out of every responsibility. Ironically, his power is he can create hard-energy constructs out of thin air, shape matter, and, basically, make whatever he can conceive. His cocky attitude disgusts an emotionally needy person who’s desperate for people to like him.”
