Privateer Press Launches Community Integrated Development Program

Privateer Press has announced that they are implementing a new process called Community Integrated Development or CID, for playtesting the Warmachine and Hordes tabletop miniatures games. CID gives Warmachine and Hordes players the opportunity to playtest and provide feedback on the rules for new model releases before those models launch. Privateer’s goal with the CID initiative is to ensure players are getting exactly what they want in their new model releases by soliciting their feedback during the development process.

The CID process will be conducted through a new Community Integrated Development Forums. These CID forums will contain materials required for the current playtest cycle, including concept art, current model stats, and playtest direction. Each playtest cycle will last four to six weeks, though some projects may be given more or less time as needed.  Playtest cycles are expected to begin at the time product solicitations for the new releases are sent to distributors but may also include previously released models related or integral to these testing cycles.

Additionally, beginning with new products releasing in July 2017, WARMACHINE and HORDES products will no longer contain stat cards. Privateer Press currently offers the War Room 2 companion app and has announced plans to provide free PDFs of all model cards online as well as to make cards available through a Print-on-Demand service with a partner to be announced.

Community Integrated Development begins with the newest Hordes faction announced February 17, Grymkin: The Wicked Harvest. First appearing in the Monsternomicon published in 2002, the Grymkin are a collection of horrific nightmare creatures rooted in the folklore of the Iron Kingdoms.

Grymkin: The Wicked Harvest models will debut at Lock & Load GameFest 2017 in Bellevue, Washington, to be held at the Meydenbauer Center from July 14–July 16.  Tickets and hotel information for this event can be found at pplockandload.com. The Grymkin models will be released in waves from July through September 2017.

privateer-press-logo-blackThe rulebooks for the award-winning Warmachine and Hordes tabletop miniatures games, Prime and Primal, are now available in PDF format for free download.

To coincide with the release of the Warmachine and Hordes rulebooks, Privateer Press is also hosting a contest in which players and retailers can win Warmachine and Hordes prizes. Players will have a chance to win a complete army just for purchasing a Warmachine or Hordes Battlegroup Box or Two-Player Battle Box from their local gaming store. The retailers from which those purchases are made will also have a chance to win a prize package of Privateer Press product worth over $400 MSRP. Retailers can increase their odds of winning by tweeting their store’s name, alongside a photo of customer purchasing a Warmachine or Hordes Battlegroup Box or Two-Player Battle Box, to @privateerpress. You can get the full contest rules online.

Warmachine is a fast-paced 32 mm tabletop miniatures game set in the steam-powered science fiction/fantasy world of the Iron Kingdoms. Each player commands an army of detailed miniatures including a warcaster, an elite soldier-sorcerer who possesses incredible arcane power and the ability to mentally control a force of steam-powered mechanical automatons known as warjacks, and his supporting soldiers in a battle to vanquish the enemy warcaster. The fully compatible feral twin of Warmachine, Hordes, puts players in command of a battle mage known as a warlock who can control an army of powerful warbeasts and leads her own army of warriors into combat to destroy the enemy warlock.

Privateer Press Highlights 2015 Releases

privateer-press-logo-blackPrivateer Press’ highly anticipated annual keynote presentation at TempleCon featured a new wave of colossals for Warmachine, more details on the upcoming Iron Kingdoms Unleashed Roleplaying Game, a first look at The Undercity: An Iron Kingdoms Adventure Board Game, and a trailer for Skull Island eXpeditions’ upcoming e-book novel The Judas Protocol, by Nathan E. Meyer, based on the hit LEVEL 7 series of science fiction board games. Additional previews will be presented at SmogCon in London on February 20, 2015.

The colossals previewed in the keynote are among several upcoming Warmachine model releases planned for 2015. These 120 mm–based models are the second wave of the popular colossal warjacks that debuted in 2012 and stand at about six inches tall, dwarfing the majority of models on the tabletop. Most of these new colossals will appear in the expansion book Warmachine: Reckoning, also releasing this year.

First announced at last year’s keynote, Iron Kingdoms Unleashed will see two major releases in early 2015. The Iron Kingdoms Unleashed Roleplaying Game Adventure Kit debuts in March and includes everything up to five players need to start their adventures in the wild side of the ENnie award–winning Iron Kingdoms, including a condensed rulebook, an adventure, map tiles, pregenerated characters, and plastic figures. The full rulebook for the game, Iron Kingdoms Unleashed Roleplaying Game: Core Rules, releases in April and features 480 pages packed with complete rules for adventuring as a savage hero, including detailed setting information and full-color illustration. The book will also be available in an exclusive limited variant-cover edition from participating retailers.

The Undercity puts a spin on the classic dungeon crawl adventure, setting it within the vast underground labyrinth of one of the Iron Kingdoms’ most famous cities. This board game for two to four players comes with a seven-adventure campaign the players can gain experience and develop their heroes through, dungeon tiles to recreate the perilous Undercity, and detailed plastic figures to represent all the heroes and villains. It is scheduled for a Fall release.

Skull Island eXpeditions ventures into a gritty near future this spring with The Judas Protocol. This novel is a prequel to the events chronicled in the critically acclaimed tactical miniatures–based board game LEVEL 7 [Omega Protocol], which was hailed as one of the best board game releases of 2013. Penning The Judas Protocol is Scribe Award–winning author Nathan Meyer, a U.S. Army veteran who has written a dozen novels across three action-adventure series, including titles for the popular Mack Bolan books. The Judas Protocol follows Disco Team, a team of elite commandos, as they find themselves in the middle of a conflict between two alien factions, with the fate of the Earth hanging in the balance.
