The Mighty Nein Origins library concludes with two graphic novels in 2024

After diving into the backstories of Jester Lavorre, Caleb Widogast, Yasha Nydoorin, Fjord Stone, Nott the Brave, and Mollymauk Tealeaf in the Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins graphic novels, Dark Horse Books and Critical Role present the final two origin stories with Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Beauregard Lionett and Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Caduceus Clay.

Enter the world of the Cobalt Soul in Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Beauregard Lionett. Despite her origins with a “traditional” family, Beauregard Lionett’s penchant for troublemaking was legendary. Outraged by her criminal activity, Beau’s father arranged for her to be kidnapped and turned over to the order of monks known as the Cobalt Soul for some much-needed discipline and direction. But the direction Beau takes–toward the Mighty Nein–isn’t what anyone anticipated.

Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, and Mae Catt write Beauregard’s backstory, with art by Guilherme Balbi, colors by Diana Sousa, and letters by Ariana Maher, with Balbi and Sousa illustrating the cover.

Last but certainly not least, the final member of the Mighty Nein to receive his own graphic novel is Caudecus Clay in Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Caduceus Clay. Generations of the Clay family have tended to the careful rituals in the Blooming Grove. But when corruption begins to creep in on their sacred space, the Clays depart one by one to seek answers. Soon young Caduceus and Clarabelle are the only ones left, and when a dangerous burial quest falls to Caduceus, he must leave the Grove to do the family’s work.

Matthew Mercer, Taliesin Jaffe, and Kendra Wells write the graphic novel, with art by Selina Espiritu, colors by Eren Angiolini, letters by Ariana Maher, with cover art by Gus Allen and Angiolini.

Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Beauregard Lionett will be available in bookstores April 30, 2024 and in comic shops May 1, 2024. It is now available to pre-order at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and your local comic shop and bookstore for $17.99.

Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins—Caduceus Clay HC will be available in bookstores June 4, 2024 and in comic shops June 5, 2025. It is now available to pre-order at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and your local comic shop and bookstore for $17.99.

Real Hero Shit

Adventure awaits! But our heroes are missing some manpower.

People are going missing in a small mountain town. The city guard are blocked from a real investigation. The notorious Underguild has assigned Michel a secret mission: find the missing villagers and bring whatever kidnapped them to justice. Unfortunately for Michel (and his fellow adventurers, Ani and Hocus), they’re short a fighter and need one more party member to foil this plot. Even more unfortunately, the only volunteer seems to be the arrogant, ostentatious, purple playboy Prince Eugene looking to cure his boredom. Covert is not a concept that he’s familiar with, and let’s just say his commitment to the mission is questionable.

Every day is basically spring break for Eugene, but outside the palace walls he crashes into a hard reality: the system that kept him safe in his silk-sheeted bed isn’t particularly concerned with the well-being of anyone who isn’t him. Eugene will have to level-up his awareness if he means to be a real hero, and time is running short!

Lion Forge’s CubHouse to Publish Samuel Sattin and Ian McGinty’s Glint: Loon’s Army

Lion Forge continues to make good on the promise of “Comics for Everyone” as another new title is announced in it’s growing younger readers imprint. The company will publish co-creators Samuel Sattin and Ian McGinty‘s Glint: Loon’s Army through their CubHouse banner in the coming year!

Glint: Loon’s Army is the introductory volume of a three-part series that pulls from elements of comics, manga, science fiction and fantasy to create a story of family, social conflict, and resilience.

The planet Mora is hurtling through space, from solar system to solar system, looking for a star it can finally call home. It’s also about to be mined to death, losing the last of its energy-producing, planet-sustaining mineral Glint. But shhh, that part’s a secret. A secret that will send a young, headstrong miner named Loon and his hoverhog-riding grandma on an epic journey for survival, for the sake of not just their families, but the very world they hold dear.

Glint tackles big themes with colorful, stylized cartooning, humor, and a fast-paced, emotional narrative. Readers of all ages will find themselves immersed in the story as the main characters strive to save their loved ones (and their planet) by harnessing the optimism of youth, outsmarting the establishment, and trying to understand what it means to do good.

Written by Samuel Sattin, and penciled and inked by Ian McGinty, Glint: Loon’s Army will be colored by Kendra Wells, for release in February 2019. Subsequent volumes will follow close behind in October 2019 and April 2020.
