REKCAH Comics Returns to Baltimore Comic Con with The Future Is ****** Writer Fred Van Lente and Editor Joseph Keatinge!

Later this month, Baltimore Comic-Con will be held at the Inner Harbor’s Baltimore Convention Center on September 25-27! Tickets now available online to avoid waiting in additional lines at the show!

REKCAH Comics, publisher of the cyber sci-fi series The Future Is ******, returns to Baltimore Comic-Con September 25th–27th. The Future Is ****** writer Fred Van Lente and editor Joseph Keatinge will both be in attendance for signings. REKCAH Comics invites readers to participate in a giveaway of free comics, limited edition hardcovers, and posters featuring The Future Is ****** cover artist Jae Lee, all at Booth 1805!

Fred Van Lente is the six-time New York Times bestselling writer of REKCAH Comics’ The Future Is ******, BOOM! Studios’ Vampyrates!, and Clover Press’s Gamemasters: The Comic Book History of Roleplaying Games, nominated this year for Best Original Graphic Novel at the Ringo Awards. He’ll have a limited number of copies of Gamemasters for sale at the RECKAH booth on Saturday and Sunday only.

Joseph Keatinge is the REKCAH Comics Creative Director. He’s also the COMICS! The Magazine Editor-in-Chief and writer of titles for Skybound, Marvel, DC, Image Comics, and Heavy Metal. His comic book writing credits include Shutter, Ringside, Glory, Tech Jacket, Stellar, Adventures of Superman, and Marvel Knights: Hulk. He was the Executive Editor of the Eisner and Harvey award-winning anthology PopGun.

Stellar Gets a Trade Out January 2019

Writer Joseph Keatinge and artist Bret Blevins will release a trade paperback collection of Stellar—created by Robert Kirkman and Marc Silvestri—this January from Image Comics and Skybound Entertainment.

Taken as a child, Stellar was transformed into the ultimate weapon, one that would end an intergalactic war. She succeeded…at everything except finding peace. Now she’s a bounty hunter, scouring the worlds she’s broken in a search for redemption. But there are other weapons loose in the galaxy, and some just can’t leave the war behind them.

Stellar hits comic book stores on Wednesday, January 16th and bookstores on Tuesday, January 23rd.

Review: Flavor #1

Within a strange walled city, an unlicensed chef discovers a mystery that threatens to end it all. Flavor is a culinary epic adventure-FLAVOR-where chefs are the ultimate celebrity and food is the most valued commodity. The high-stakes competition of Hunger Games collides with the lush in this delectable new ongoing series featuring culinary consulting and bonus content by Ali Bouzari, renowned food scientist and author of the IACP Award-winning cookbook Ingredient: Unveiling the Essential Elements of Food.

Flavor #1 feels like the opening sequence of an adorable animated film by Hayao Miyazaki. The series focuses on Xoo, a young girl with her dog Buster who are basically living on their own while her parents are incapacitated. Writer Joseph Keatinge and artist Wook Jin Clark, the two co-created the series, open the issue in a way that allows us to focus on a fully realized city. It’s an action sequence that’s a feast for the eyes, teaches you about the city in which it takes place, and allows you to get a feel about the characters.

It’s all adorable and cute in that kids animated movie sort of way.

What Keatinge and Clark set up is beyond interesting as the issue continues and layers are added to the story. There’s Xoo attempting to run her family’s business. The introduction of her absent Uncle who is called in to help her. And then there’s the twist ending which adds a new layer and shows there’s so much more to this world than just a girl attempting to live and take care of her parents. It’s a mystery that’s unexpected and makes it all more interesting.

Clark is joined on art by Tamra Bonvillain who helps add to the animated feel of it all with the coloring chosen and the way it’s presented. It at times looks like animated cells on a page. It’s just wonderful and full of life and while the city itself seems pretty well off all of it together but the small details makes it also look lived in and slightly dirty. The lettering by Ariana Maher also adds a whimsical sense of it and the overall sense of fun for the issue.

I loved this first issue and it’s an entertaining comic that at first seems like it’d be great for kids and adults alike and then you get to the end… and I’m rethinking that aspect. I have no idea where this is going, I just know I want to read it and find out.

Evolution #1 Heads Back to Print

The hot new Image/Skybound horror series Evolution from writers James Asmus, Joseph Keatinge, Christopher Sebela, and Joshua Williamson with artists Joe Infurnari and Jordan Boyd is being rushed back to print in order to keep up with increased customer demand.

Human evolution has taken millions of years to get to the stage it’s reached in Evolution. But next week, we become something new. Around the world, humanity is undergoing rapid and unpredictable changes, and only three individuals seem to notice that their world is being reborn. But what can they do about it?
