Exclusive: Steve Niles’ Cal McDonald: Plague of Evil and Other Stories gets Joe Jusko and Cat Stagg Lithographs and Stickers

Legendary horror writer and 30 Days of Night co-creator Steve Niles’ iconic paranormal detective Cal McDonald’s hard boiled adventures have captivated fans since his first appearance in the 1990 story “Big Head.” Cal McDonald has seen it all. Vampires, werewolves, ghouls, demons, mutants, maniacs, and every other thing that crawls out of the dark. Niles is revisiting his gruesome gumshoe in Cal McDonald: Plague of Evil and Other Stories, a collection of short stories.

Cal McDonald: Plague of Evil and Other Stories features a foreword by acclaimed actor and horror creator David Dastmalchian and a stunning painted cover by master illustrator Joe Jusko. Published by Clover Press’ The Fourth Leaf, a new imprint for creator-owned comics, books and graphic novels, this 216-page hardcover will collect ten brand-new Cal McDonald stories, each with an illustration by a different beloved comic artist. Fans can support the project on Kickstarter.

In the tradition of Mickey Spillane and Rymond Chandler, Niles sends Cal and his undead sidekick on a strange journey through a Los Angeles populated by monsters, freaks, ghouls, and all kinds of new creatures hell-bent on causing chaos.

Cal McDonald: Plague of Evil and Other Stories will feature gorgeous chapter illustrations by an incredible lineup of artists, including Cat Staggs, Liam Sharp, Scott Morse, Christopher Mitten, Gyula Nemeth, Steven Russell Black, Francesco Francavilla, Alison Sampson, and Damien Worm, each adding their own signature style to Cal McDonald’s world of hard-boiled horror.

The Punisher Collides with Mavel’s Most Dangerous Heroes

The streets of the Marvel Universe explode this October as the Punisher comes face-to-face with some of Marvel’s most dangerous heroes! Beginning with Punisher Showdowns: Black Widow #1, writer Tom Waltz and artist Greg Land are showcasing previously untold conflicts between Frank Castle and other members of the Marvel Universe in a series of oversized one-shots. It all begins as Punisher and Natasha Romanoff, aka the Black Widow, collide during a mission to stop a terrorist attack in Las Vegas. If Frank can make it through that encounter in one piece (that’s no guarantee!), he’ll have to contend with both Wolverine and the Winter Soldier in the follow-up one-shots releasing in November and December.

FRANK CASTLE CROSSES PATHS WITH HEROES OF THE MARVEL U!

In Punisher Showdowns: Black Widow #1, A threat from a terrorist cell puts Frank Castle on a mission to Las Vegas, where the Black Widow’s intel on a Wolf Spider operative will set them all on a bullet-riddled collision course! But will Punisher and Black Widow see eye to eye or is this eye-for-an-eye going to leave bodies in their wake?! The Punisher’s one-man war on the guilty crosses paths with other denizens of the Marvel Universe with explosive and unexpected results! It comes to shops October 21.

In Punisher Showdowns: Wolverine #1, Wolverine digs into the criminal underground of New York City as the Yakuza unleash a deadly and violence-inducing drug on the streets! The Punisher already has his sights set on these death-peddling scum, so what happens when Logan crosses paths and claws with Frank Castle? What follows, you’ll have to read to believe! With art by Bruno Büll, a main cover by Whilce Portacio and variant cover by Joe Jusko, it’s out November 4.

In Punisher Showdowns: Winter Soldier #1, when Punisher targets a death-dealing criminal with political ties, Soviet Russia activates its deadliest asset—the Winter Soldier—to intercept. But will the Punisher get his man, or will the Winter Soldier complete his mind-controlled mission? Featuring art by Edgar Salazar, it has a main cover by Ian Churchill, variant by Jusko. The issue is out December 2.

Coming August 28 from LRG Games, Skybound‘s Invincible, The Walking Dead, Birthright, and Excellence are coming to decks and tabletop with the OverPower TCG: Skybound set. It’s the biggest set the company has shipped since bringing OverPower back, and the first time the 30-year-old game has had a wide retail push since the original Marvel/DC era ended. 

Skybound brings 36 new playable characters into the Modern format and slots in cleanly alongside Legacy decks for players who’ve been around since the beginning. As with every OverPower release, the cards are full-art from household names including Jae Lee, Joe Jusko, Marc Silvestri, Philip Tan, and Adam Kubert.

Marking OverPower’s widest retail release in over 30 years, this set will be available at local gaming and comic book stores in the US and Canada — as well as over 900 Best Buy and 1800 GameStop locations nationwide. The game saw a pre-release reveal during San Diego Comic-Con and Gen Con earlier this summer.

LRG Games is putting Invincible and The Walking Dead into players’ hands this fall as OverPower TCG: Skybound lands at comic shops and game stores nationwide. It’s the biggest set the company has shipped since bringing OverPower back, and the first time the 30-year-old game has had a wide retail push since the original Marvel/DC era ended.

Skybound brings 36 new playable characters into the Modern format and slots in cleanly alongside Legacy decks for players who’ve been around since the beginning. Birthright and Excellence characters round out the set. As with every OverPower release, the cards are full-art from household names including Jae Lee, Joe Jusko, Marc Silvestri, Philip Tan, and Adam Kubert.

Tides of the Tyrant-King Begins a new Conan the Barbarian Event this September

Titan Comics and Heroic Signatures have revealed more information about the brand new Conan Crossover Event teased on Free Comic Book Day 2026, with a new Conan miniseries dropping in September, Tides of the Tyrant-King, it’s the perfect opportunity for new readers to dive into a huge and exciting new adventure for the Cimmerian! Written by the legendary Jim Zub, illustrated by the incredible Jésus Merino, Issue #1 features a huge range of covers by Roberto De La Torre, Utsab Chatterjee, Gerardo Zaffino, Jésus Merino, and Stuart Sayger.

In Tides of The Tyrant-King #1, Conan of Cimmeria believed that Thulsa Doom’s evil had been banished forever, but the Atlantean necromancer’s dark power stirs once more and, if it cannot be stopped, the dead shall overtake the living! The Tyrant-King of Atlantis returns and all shall suffer, unless Conan and his brave allies can turn back the tide! The story follows Conan the Barbarian and Stephen Costigan, both warriors in different times – their battles are mirrored, as both of them are connected by a familiar evil that seeps its way into both stories…

Fire and Ice’s Mysterious Darkwolf Stars in Series by Dan Panosian!

The brutal sword and sorcery mythos of Fire and Ice brings even more exciting comics action this summer with a brand-new series turning the spotlight to the fierce and mysterious Darkwolf, with creators Dan Panosian and Andrey Lunatik at the helm!

Born from the immortal imagination of master fantasy illustrator and painter Frank Frazetta and genius animation innovator Ralph Bakshi, the character of Darkwolf is one of the most memorable and signature parts of their historic team-up for Fire and Ice. The muscled warrior hides his true identity behind an iconic mask. Eventually in the thick of the film’s plot he crosses paths with Larn and Teegra, and fells Nekron by his own hands.

In this new series by Dan “Urban Barbarian” Panosian, readers will get to know — but not too much — the legendary Darkwolf before those events. It all begins when a mother and her twins flee the warlock who sired them. His lackeys are sent out to pursue them, at least until a fabled warrior descends from the mountains to unleash hell upon them. But saving them is only the beginning.

Panosian is joined by artist Andrey Lunatik, making his mainstream debut here. He brings his energetic ink-slinging style that perfectly matches the pulse-pounding adventures and combat of Darkwolf.

With a lineage including Frazetta and Bakshi, every Fire and Ice comic has a tall task to live up to with not only the interior art but also covers. Darkwolf is displayed in all his ferocious glory by Panosian himself, as well as Stjepan Šejić, Joe Jusko, Stuart Sayger, and Cary Nord. Both Jusko and Nord are legends within barbarian comics, and are complemented with more perfect fits for the genre.
