Never before seen original ShadowHawk #1 with rare inks by Todd McFarlane gets the foil treatment for The Last ShadowHawk

Out of the archives comes a never-before-seen ShadowHawk #1 cover! This artwork was drawn by Jim Valentino and originally intended for the series’ launch in 1992—all before the iconic helmet cover came into play. Now, in celebration of Image‘s and ShadowHawk‘s 30th anniversary, this important piece of Image history will finally be brought to shelves and feature inks by Todd McFarlane and a special silver cold foil treatment. The Last ShadowHawk #1 1:100 copy incentive will be the first and only of Valentino’s ShadowHawk cover art ever inked by McFarlane.

The back cover will feature the original Rob Liefeld-inked artwork that Valentino ultimately used for the first printing of Shadowhawk #1 when the series premiered in 1992.

Celebrate the 30th anniversary of ShadowHawk #1 with writer/artist Philip Tan, co-writer Brian Haberlin, and inker Daniel Henriques.

In the not-too-distant future, the world will be just as it is today…only worse. Evil has permeated the very fabric of society, from the halls of government to the darkened alleyways. Will the heroes who once defended the downtrodden fail them now? Will a new generation rise, inspired by the last of the old? Who will be THE LAST SHADOWHAWK?

Last ShadowHawk #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, August 17.

Look Back at 30 Years of Image with The Official Image Timeline

Image Comics archivist and co-founder Jim Valentino details the company’s history (warts and all!) in the single most comprehensive chronology of the company ever published—The Official Image Timeline. The one-shot will hit shelves in February 2022, just in time for Image Comics’ 30th anniversary.

Featuring rarely seen covers, photos, milestones, and behind-the-scenes events from the company’s Marvel-ous beginnings to the present, The Official Image Timeline is the chronicle all future histories will be judged against.

This special one-shot will also feature an introduction by current Image Comics Publisher Eric Stephenson and include a chronicle of historic Image accolades.

The Official Image Timeline will be printed in a beautiful 64-page prestige format.

The Official Image Timeline one-shot (Diamond Code DEC210077) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, February 2.

Image Comics Founders Reunite at ECCC 2017 to Celebrate 25 years

Image Comics and ReedPOP have announced that original Image Comics company founders Todd McFarlane, Jim Valentino, Erik Larsen, Rob Liefeld, Marc Silvestri, and Whilce Portacio will reunite at Emerald City Comicon 2017 to celebrate the company’s milestone 25th anniversary. The panel will be moderated by Walking Dead creator and Image Comics partner, Robert Kirkman.

The Image Comics founders will come together for a very special ECCC panel on Friday, March 3rd from 1:00–2:30 PM. The panel will focus on the origin story of the company when, 25 years ago, a group of comics artists looked at the difference between what they were capable of and what they were being given, and left the promise of steady work for new pastures. The result was Image Comics, which has grown from an upstart group to a comics publisher that has changed the course of the industry. Image’s 25th anniversary year begins with this special event, a rare gathering that is not to be missed.

Following the panel, there will be an exclusive signing with the Image Comics founders in the Grand Ballroom at the Sheraton Hotel located next door to the Washington State Convention Center from 3:00–4:30 PM. ECCC will coordinate a ‘lottery system’ where badge-holding fans will submit their names and a lucky 300 fans will win a limited edition poster and admission to have it signed by the founders. Lottery applications are open on the Emerald City Comicon website until February 21st.

On February 1, 1992 seven comics superstars Erik Larsen, Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Todd McFarlane, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri, and Jim Valentino came together to form their own company that would change the landscape of comics forever. Current partners McFarlane, Valentino, Kirkman, Larsen, and Silvestri collectively have brought creator-owned comics to the forefront of industry change and, after 25 years of amazing storytelling freedom, Image Comics celebrates the milestone anniversary all year long with ongoing promotions, events, and festivities.

Cryptozoic Partners With CBLDF For Benefit Card Set

Official Press Release 300

Cryptozoic Entertainment Partners with Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) for Charity Trading Card Set

Irvine, CA—February 28, 2011: Cryptozoic Entertainment™ and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund™ have joined forces to protect creativity by collaborating on a new trading card set. The Liberty Trading Cards set tells the story of the fight to defend the First Amendment and includes chase cards from the greatest creators in comics and  entertainment. The set will be released in July 2011, with proceeds from the sales benefiting the Fund.

“Cryptozoic is one of the most exciting new companies in pop culture, and we’re thrilled to work with them on this dynamic card project,” says CBLDF Executive Director Charles Brownstein. “Together we’ll be showing how the CBLDF has advanced Free Expression in comics and gathering one of the coolest collections of incentive cards ever assembled.”

The Liberty Trading Cards set will feature a base set of seventy cards representing the history of comics censorship, from the Seduction of the Innocent era in the 1950s to the modern day. In addition to the base set, special hand drawn sketches and autograph cards by some of the top talent in the comic book world will be featured in this release!

Already signed on to collaborate are Geoff Johns, Neil Gaiman, Darwyn Cooke, Gail Simone, Mark Waid, Brian Azzarello, Paul Levitz, Denny O’Neil, Frank Quitely, Phil Hester, and many more. “The generous response from the creative community has been overwhelming,” said CBLDF Board President Larry Marder. “The most impressive gesture has been how many creators are briefly lending CBLDF their Intellectual Property for this project only. Creators letting us borrow their characters for these artists to sketch include Jeff Smith, Marc Silvestri, Erik Larsen, John Layman, Jim Valentino, Matt Wagner, Rob Liefeld, Stan Sakai, Eric Powell, Mike Richardson, and many others.”

Go to www.cbldf.org for a complete up-to-date list of all sketchers and signers.

“I can’t tell you how proud we are to partner with the CBLDF,” said Cory Jones, President of Cryptozoic Entertainment. “The Fund has been one of my favorite charities for years, and to be able to support it on this scale is incredible.”

The Comic Book Legal Defense fund is a nonprofit organization that was created in 1986 with a mission to protect the most basic right: freedom of speech. The organization exists to protect the First Amendment rights of the creators, retailers, publishers, and readers of comics.

Defend creativity and own a piece of comics history with the CBLDF Liberty Trading Cards, coming this July from Cryptozoic!
