War for the Planet of the Apes Gets a Comic Series from BOOM!, David Walker, and Jonas Scharf

BOOM! Studios and Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products are teaming up for a War for the Planet of the Apes comic book series that serves as a prequel story to the upcoming blockbuster film. Written by David F. Walker and illustrated by Jonas Scharf, War for the Planet of the Apes comic series debuts July 12, 2017 as a four-issue monthly limited series. The highly anticipated 20th Century Fox film opens two days later on July 14.

Picking up where the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes film left off, the War for the Planet of the Apes comic series will serve as a bridge to the upcoming new movie. Spanning the course of a year, this limited series focuses on various groups of characters throughout the United States, giving readers a look into this mysterious world.

BOOM! Studios Announces Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Omnibus

BOOM! Studios and Electric Shepherd Productions are pleased to announce they will collect BOOM!’s entire 24-issue Eisner Award-nominated comic adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s groundbreaking science-fiction novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? into a complete softcover omnibus for the first time. The comic series, as realized by artist Tony Parker, was published by BOOM! from 2009-2011. The new collection features a new cover by Mondo artist Jay Shaw and essays from popular industry professionals, including Ed Brubaker, Warren Ellis, and Matt Fraction.

Dick’s novels revolutionized the science fiction genre and influenced many well-known sci-fi films such as Minority Report, Total Recall, and the 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner, which was based directly on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?. His novel The Man in the High Castle was recently adapted as a pilot and subsequently ordered to series through Amazon Studios.

In Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, San Francisco lies under a cloud of radioactive dust. The World War has killed millions, driving entire species to extinction and sending mankind off-planet. Those who remain covet any living creature, and for people who can’t afford one, companies build incredibly realistic fakes: horses, birds, cats, sheep—even humans. Rick Deckard is an officially sanctioned bounty hunter tasked to find six rogue androids. They’re machines, but look, sound, and think like humans—and infinitely more dangerous.

In an interview with Marvel.com, Bunn said:

So there are thousands of Deadpools, all of them originating from the one and only Wade Wilson. Every time a zombie takes a bite of one of these Deadpools, the zombie becomes Deadpool. You know how Deadpool has numerous personalities? Well, these newly created Deadpools start to latch on to different aspects of Deadpools split psyche, forming factions. And these factions don’t get along!

This February, the dead will rise. And this February, the Deadpools will…er, rise!

Christopher Sebela Takes Snake Plissken Nationwide with John Carpenter’s Escape from New York

Studios is getting ready for the December debut of a second John Carpenter film adapted to comics, Escape from New York. This new ongoing series picks up directly after the end of the cult classic film, with writer Christopher Sebela and artist Diego Barreto taking Snake Plissken on a tour of a country on the brink of World War III.

In the Escape from New York comic, the crime rate in the United States has risen 400 percent.
