Skybound Entertainment Gets investment from Hiro Capital
Hiro Capital has invested in Skybound Entertainment in a “significant, undisclosed round”. It was led by Knollwood Advisory with participation from Boost VC, and follow on participation from Com2uS and Skydance Entertainment. Skybound Entertainment is home to acclaimed franchises including The Walking Dead, Invincible, and Impact Winter.
The investment is an interesting one considering Hiro Capital’s pedigree. Not just an investment company, it has a pedigree in the space. The firm was co-founded by Sir Ian Livingstone, one of the co-founders of Games Workshop, the game company behind Warhammer (40K). He was also the President and CEO for Eidos Interactive for 20 years.
Skybound brings together creators across its multi-faceted business, including comics, interactive games, audio, film and television (traditional and digital platforms), licensing, and merchandising. Skybound has successfully franchised some of its biggest IP by connecting creators and their content to new platforms and audiences. Skybound is responsible for turning Robert Kirkman’s comic book series The Walking Dead into a multi-billion-dollar franchise through a television adaptation, numerous video games and merchandise, and novels. Kirkman’s comic book series Invincible is also in production for seasons 2 and 3 after a high-acclaimed and successful first season debut through an exclusive partnership with Amazon Prime.
Hiro’s creator-first approach supports some of the best teams in the industry to build futuristic new worlds. Hiro will have more announcements soon about follow-on projects and investments.

While I never played any of the legendary Fighting Fantasy series of gamebooks created by Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson in 1982, I remember Freeway Fighter being somewhere on the shelves of one of the comic/game shops I worked at during my teens and early 20s. My introduction to Livingstone and Jackson’s worldbuilding with Games Workshop and its numerous games, but Freeway Fighter stood out during its release by deviating from the usual mix of orcs, goblins and cave-trolls. The series went on to sell over 18 million copies worldwide and is translated in over 30 languages.

Critically acclaimed writer Andi Ewington teams up with original creator Ian Livingstone and artist Simon Coleby for Freeway Fighter – a furious, four-issue road trip like no other, speeding from Titan Comics in May 2017.
