Listen to David F. Walker talk Cyborg on Graphic Policy Radio on Demand

Journalist, filmmaker, educator, comic book writer, and author, David F. Walker has had an amazing career and makes his first time appearance as a guest on Graphic Policy Radio.

Walker has been nominated for an Eisner Award for his work as the English language writer on the critically acclaimed manga series Tokyo Tribes, he is the author of the Young Adult series The Adventures of Darius Logan, and co-writer of the Dark Horse Comics series Number 13. Walker’s other work in comics includes Cyborg (DC), Shaft (Dynamite), The Army of Dr. Moreau (IDW/Monkeybrain), and The Supernals Experiment (Canon Comics). Next year he will be writing Power Man and Iron Fist for Marvel.

He’s a leading scholar and expert of African-American cinema and taught courses such as documentary filmmaking, writing for comics, and film criticism to youth through the Pacific Northwest College of Art, Northwest Film Center, Documentary Northwest, and Project Youth Doc.

  • Batman #44 is an interesting change for the character. We’ll discuss the issue taking on some relevant societal issues
  • More news of creators being bad broke out. We discuss the persistent harassment in the comic industry, the protection of these individuals, and what can be done.
  • This past weekend was Small Press Expo. We talk about one of the best independent and small press comic conventions out there.

GP Radio Special tues 10pmGraphic Policy Radio is taking Labor Day off, but we have an episode this week at a special time and with a first time guest. Comic creator Alex de Campi joins us to discuss her career and more! The show is airing LIVE on a special day and time, this Tuesday at 10pm ET.

Alex is a comic writer who has created comics for some of the biggest publishers including Dark Horse, Archie, and Image Comics. Her series include Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight, Grindhouse: Drive In, Bleed Out, Archie vs. Predator, and her creator owned series Smoke/Ashes and No Mercy and more.

Bryan is a writer for both comics and films. He currently writes Postal for Image Comics/Top Cow Productions as well as the upcoming Romulus. He was also recently brought on board as the story editor for Top Cow.

This past Monday was a brand new episode of Graphic Policy Radio with first time guest Genevieve Valentine.

Genevieve Valentine is a science fiction and fantasy writer. In 2014 she took over as the writer for DC Comics’ Catwoman, sending Selina Kyle in a whole new direction as a key player in Gotham’s mob family. The latest issue hits shelves this week. Her first novel, Mechanique: A tale of the Circus Tresaulti, won the Crawford Award for a first fantasy novel, and was shortlisted for the Nebula.

Joining us in welcoming Genevieve to the show is frequent guest and cohost Emma Houxbois. Emma is the Comics Editor for The Rainbow Hub and co-host of weekly comics podcast Fantheon!

In 2012 he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and became the first alt-weekly cartoonist to win the Herblock Prize for Excellence in Cartooning. Currently he’s running a Kickstarter to collecting some of the best political cartoons, comics journalism, non-fiction and humor.

Eat More Comics packs more than 300 pages featuring dozens of the best cartoonists to ever toon a toon. I mean, it’s going to be a large book.

We talked to him about the Kickstarter, The Nib, and more!

Graham has worked with everyone from Antarctic Press, Oni Press, NBM Publishing, to Dark Horse Comics, Image Comics, and more! Recently, Graham has had two impressive releases, both through Image. 8House: Arclight debuted July 1 and is a fantasy world featuring sharp genderqueer knights, blood magic, music, dancing, and a goose. Island debuted July 15, and is a new ongoing comics magazine featuring the talents of Graham, Emma Ríos, and more.

We discuss both series and a whole lot more during the show.

There was some audio issues, but things smooth out at about the 40 minute mark.
