Ghostbusters: Afterlife Captures the Weekend Box Office

Ghostbusters: Afterlife

It shouldn’t be a big surprise but Ghostbusters: Afterlife took the top of the weekend box office with an estimated $44 million. The film also grossed $16 million at the international box office for a worldwide debut of $60 million. The film has generally had a positive from audiences while critics have been mixed.

The original Ghostbusters debuted in 1984 with $13,578,151 about $36.1 million in today’s dollars. It also had a budget of $30 million which is just under $80 million in today’s dollars. Ghostbusters: Afterlife has a reported budget of about $75 million. So, compared to the original, the numbers aren’t so bad for this relaunch.

The 2016 Ghostbusters reboot opened with $46,018,755 which is about $53 million in today’s dollars. That had a budget of $144,000,000 which is about $166 million today.

Ghostbusters II debuted with $29,472,894 in 1989 which is about $65.7 million today. That film had a budget of about $25 million, around $55.8 million in today’s dollars.

We still have have a bit to go to see where Ghostbusters: Afterlife ends but as far as opening, the film is one of the more successful films, with a moderate budget by today’s standards. If it has some legs, expect sequels to spin out of it but there’s still some time to see how it does. No matter, Sony should be happy with the relaunch of the property and its debut.

In second place was Eternals which dropped from last weekend’s first place. It earned an estimated $10.8 million to bring its domestic total to $135.8 million. Over the week, the film grossed around $37.7 million to bring its international total to $200.3 million. The film has grossed $336.1 million after three weeks.

Clifford the Big Red Dog slipped one spot to come in third place. The film grossed an estimated $8.1 million to bring its domestic total to $33.5 million. No international total has been returned.

King Richard debuted in fourth place with an estimated $5.7 million. It also grossed $2.5 million internationally for a worldwide gross of $8.2 million.

Dune rounded out the top five dipping from last weekend’s third place. The film grossed an estimated $3.1 million to bring its domestic total to $98.2 million. It also grossed $10.8 million internationally over the week to bring that to $268.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $367.1 million.

In comic films…

Over the week the film has grossed $9.4 million at the international box office to bring its total to $248.2 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $454.7 million worldwide.

My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission didn’t chart and its domestic total has remained just under $9.8 million. Internationally, the film added about $400,000 over the week to bring that to $30.5 million and its worldwide gross to $40.2 million.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings grossed an estimated $52,000 to bring its domestic total to $224.5 million. The film also grossed about $700,000 at the international box office where it now stands out $206.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $431.3 million.

Black Widow looks like it has ended its domestic run. Domestically, the film has grossed a little under $183.7 million. The international total stands at $196 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $379.6 million.

Old looks like its run has completely ended. Domestically, the film has grossed $48.2 million. Internationally, the film stood at $41.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $90.1 million.

Ghostbusters Comes to Hasbro HasLab with Spengler’s Proton Pack

Have there been any recent reports of odd occurrences in your neighborhood? No, not the guy a few houses down that likes to mow his lawn at 4 a.m., wearing a bathrobe and a pair of tube socks pulled up to his knees. That’s just your neighbor, who falls more into the category of something weird that don’t look good. Although… who mows a pattern like that into their lawn? Maybe he’s trying to open a portal to the other side, right there in his front yard? Okay, on second thought, you should probably keep a closer eye on him. You may very well need to call in the professionals: the Ghostbusters.

Better yet, you could suit up yourself and take matters into your own hands, and Hasbro has exactly what you need to do it! The Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler’s Proton Pack is available now to back as part of Hasbro’s HasLab.

As fellow faux scientists (and no doubt a smattering of real ones!), you know the importance of funding paranormal research and how it can help make the world a safer, less scary place. Here’s what’s needed to make this paranormal project a reality:

  • Fan Funding for this iconic Ghostbusters 1:1 scale roleplay item ($399)
  • 7,000 Backers to Answer the Call and Officially Fund the Project
  • 9,000 Backers to Unlock the Class I Unlockable Stretch Goal: THE CLASSIC BUNDLE
  • 11,000 Backers to Unlock the Class II Unlockable Stretch Goal: THE GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE BUNDLE
  • 13,000 Backers to Unlock the Class III Unlockable Stretch Goal: THE SPENGLER SPECIAL
  • 15,000 Backers to Unlock the Class IV Unlockable Stretch Goal: THE SUPERNATURAL STAND

Working directly with Hasbro’s partners at Sony Pictures Consumer Products and Ghost Corps, talented designers were provided with everything they’d need to create a movie-inspired, 1:1 scale Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler’s Proton Pack.

The Ghostbusters: Afterlife Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler’s Proton Pack is here, and this first-ever, full-scale, mass-manufactured beauty has it all!

  • A movie-inspired prop replica, scanned directly from the Ghostbusters: Afterlife Proton Pack hero prop!
  • Out-of-this-world tech features lights, sounds, AND a motor for active roleplay and re-creating iconic scenes!
  • Two modes of play include lights and sounds from both the 1984 classic film Ghostbusters and the upcoming 2021 Ghostbusters: Afterlife movie.
  • Modular and lightweight, this scientific wonder is the closest you can get to strapping a real nuclear particle accelerator to your back (and much less dangerous).
  • This Proton Pack is compatible with the Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler’s Neutrona Wand. The Proton Pack features a metal V-hook that connects to the V-hook on the bottom of the Neutrona Wand. Level up your cosplay game by stowing your wand on your pack when you’re not actively bustin’ ghosts!
  • Scary good screen-accurate details include the booster, power cell injectors, bumper, shock mount, and more! Oh, and yeah, you can open the cyclotron and explore its inner workings for the very first time.

Hasbro has also decided to offer a total of 4 classifications of unlocks.

CLASS 0 UNLOCKABLE STRETCH GOAL: THE HASBRO PULSE PREMIUM PERK

All Hasbro Pulse Premium Members that back the Ghostbusters HasLab Project in the first 48 hours will receive an exclusive members-only unlock: a 1984-inspired green ecto-plasm goo attachment to give their Proton Pack that “funky” feel, without that sticky texture.

“Ghostbusters Haslab… We’re ready to equip you!”
