After a lot of incorrect rumors and bad information being reported, Diamond Comic Distributors has announced that Free Comic Book Day 2020 has been postponed. The annual event will hopefully take place later in the Summer.
The impact and spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has lead Diamond to make the decision. The disease’s spread is unpredictable and with many areas on lockdown or advising against large gatherings, holding the event on the original date made little sense.
Diamond Founder and CEO, Steve Geppi said in the announcement:
The severity and timing of the impact of the COVID-19 virus can’t be predicted with any certainty, but the safety of our retailer partners and comic book fans is too important to risk. As always, we appreciate your enthusiasm for and support of the comic industry’s best event and look forward to celebrating with you later in the Summer.
