Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead delivers a Murderer’s Row of Writers, Artists, and Grisly Killers

The upcoming all-star anthology comic Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead will unveil the terrifying origins of the grisly killers from bestselling hit series Exquisite Corpses Season 1. The extra-length one-shot comic, hitting shelves in January 2027 from Image Comics and James Tynion IV’s production house Tiny Onion. It will feature a murderers’ row of writers and artists and follows the launch of three Exquisite Corpses spin-off miniseries, each about one of a trio of favorite killers from the bloody first season (Rascal Randy, Fox Mask Killer, and Lone Gunman).

Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead features stories written not only by series co-creators, Eisner award-winning horror masterminds James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh, but also by Jordie Bellaire, Marguerite Bennett, Patrick Horvath, Alyssa Wong, Steve Orlando, Josh Trujillo, Soo Lee, Victor Lavalle, and Losty. 

The top-tier writers will be joined by popular artists David Lafuente, Piotr Kowalski, Lauren Knight, Claire Roe, Alexandre Tefenkgi, Lisandro Estherren, Brian Level, Francesca Ciregia, and Ryan Quackenbush.

The issue will also feature a darkly gorgeous main cover and surprise polybagged variant by Walsh as well as variant covers by A-list artists such as Brian Level, Ito, Federico Mele, and Tula Lotay. The polybagged variant will have a collectible trading card tied to Exquisite Corpses: The Game.

Now readers will discover the backstories of the other infamous assassins while also getting a scary sneak peek at one of the new killers from the upcoming Season 2. 

In the first season of Exquisite Corpses, twelve of the deadliest killers in the world entered Oak Valley on Halloween night. But only one would survive to see the dawn. For the rest, their stories ended in decapitation, conflagration, or even more ignoble defeats. But now, thanks to overwhelming demand, creators from across the horror spectrum have assembled to reveal the never-before-seen origins of Exquisite Corpses’ cast of assassins, mercenaries, and madmen! Discover the Congregation’s unholy mission, the spark behind Layla Blaze’s scars, Lady Carolina’s first hunt, and more in this extra-sized, blood-soaked issue.

The 80-page Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead ($9.99) will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, January 13.

Pornsak Pichetshote and Alberto Ponticelli join forces for Exquisite Corpses: Lone Gunman

Writer Pornsak Pichetshote and artist Alberto Ponticelli will join forces for Exquisite Corpses: Lone Gunman, the third and final Exquisite Corpses spin-off miniseries based on season one of the bestselling horror comics created by James Tynion IV and Michael Walsh. Pichetshote also contributed to the first season as one of the “Corpse Crew” writers and will delve deeper into the lore and the future of the Lone Gunman killer in this five-issue series coming from Image Comics, and Tynion’s production house Tiny Onion, this November. 

Pichetshote and Ponticelli will be joined by Eisner Award winning colorist Jordie Bellaire and renowned letterer Becca Carey on the title. In this can’t-miss follow-up to Exquisite Corpses’ season one, Laura and her fellow survivors, Xavi and Jason, have attempted to carve out an existence with her winnings, far away from the evil machinations of the 13 Families. But, two years after the unfathomable events unleashed in their hometown and Laura’s game-winning performance as the Last Gunman, all that they did to survive still haunts them. Now, the legacy of the golden mask refuses to stay silent…and their lives are in danger once again. The limited series will uncover the backstory of the Lone Gunman and explore what’s next in Exquisite Corpses.

The launch issue will feature a stunning main cover by Ponticelli and Bellaire and variant covers by A-list artists such as Rafael Albuquerque, Leandro Fernandez, Chris Brunner, and Sebastian Fiumara. Walsh will be contributing a variant that will come polybagged with a collectible trading card tied to Exquisite Corpses: The Game, which recently was successfully funded on Kickstarter. 

Exquisite Corpses: Lone Gunman #1 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, November 4.
