Scream Scares Up First at the Box Office Knocking Off Spider-Man: No Way Home

Scream

Spider-Man: No Way Home couldn’t stay at the top of the box office forever. It was a question as to what film would eventually topple it and when. The answer, Scream.

Scream took the top of the box office with an estimated gross of $30.6 million. The film hasn’t really opened overseas, earning just $310,00 internationally for a total of $30.9 million. The original film opened domestically in 1996 with just $6.4 million with the second earning $32.9 million in 1997, the third with $34.7 million in 2000, and fourth earned $18.7 million in 2011. Considering the pandemic and it’s been 11 years since the last film, this opening should make everyone quite happy.

Spider-Man: No Way Home slipped to second place with an estimated $20.8 million. The film has now grossed $698.7 million domestically. Over the week, the film grossed around $58.8 million to bring its international gross to $926.3 million. The film will likely cross the $1 billion line in that market though it doing so domestically seems not as likely. Overall, the film has grossed an impressive $1.625 billion after five weeks. It is now the fifth highest grossing film domestically, beating Avengers: Infinity War and not adjusted for inflation. It likely will wind up in third place when its run is over. Worldwide, the film ranks #8 for lifetime grosses (again not adjusted for inflation). There, the film will probably eventually settle in sixth place.

In third place was Sing 2 which earned an estimated $8.3 million to bring its domestic total $119.4 million. Over the week, the film grossed about $14.5 million to lift its international total to $96.3 million. Worldwide, the film ahs grossed $215.7 million.

The 355 slipped on spot to fourth place earning $2.3 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $8.4 million. Internationally, the film has grossed $2.6 million and worldwide it stands at a little over $11 million.
