A Sinister Fate Awaits in New Sci Fi Thriller Eden

Humanoids has announced a brand new sci fi thriller Eden with story by Alain Bismut and Abel Ferry, written by Christopher Sebela, illustrated by Marc Laming, lettered by Troy Peteri, and colored by Lee Loughridge, about a distant future where a desperate man attempts to save his family from destruction on an unstable Earth but finds that he may have doomed them to an even more sinister fate by sneaking away on a spaceship to the fabled Eden. Available in April 2024.

The Oximenko family are scavengers forced to take drastic measures to survive in a future where scarce resources and economic and environmental decline has caused society to crumble.

When a local family that very closely resembles the Oximenkos wins a lottery to be transported to the safe-haven planet of EDEN, Gabe Oximenko hatches a plan to swap out his family with the winners, getting them a trip to paradise.

All goes according to plan until, midway through the journey, the family’s deception is revealed…but they’re not the only ones with a secret.

Gabe and his family must once again fight for survival, but this time far away from home, in the cold vastness of space, with an entire transport ship looking to make sure they never make it to Eden…or anywhere else!

Written by Matthew Arnold
Art by Riccardo Burchielli
Purchase: Amazon

Debut graphic novel by Matthew Arnold, the creator, executive producer, and showrunner of Revenge Inc., an original series in development at Netflix with Dark Horse Entertainment.

In the near future, two convicts (a disgraced senator and her husband) are sentenced to twenty-five years in a cryogenic penal facility for a horrible crime they claim they didn’t commit.

When the prison malfunctions, accidentally releasing all of the prisoners, the escapees discover that they’ve been incarcerated for thousands of years and are now the only survivors of a global catastrophe that wiped out all of mankind, an event so devastating that prehistoric creatures now walk the Earth once more. Will the world’s worst criminals be able to rise to the challenge of building a better society than the one they left? And is true redemption ever really possible?

ComiXology Originals Announces Eden, from Matthew Arnold, Riccardo Burchielli, Luca Salce, and Ed Dukeshire

Matthew Arnold, the creator and executive producer of NBC’s Emerald City and Siberia, is making his graphic novel debut with Eden, which is illustrated by acclaimed artist and DMZ co-creator Riccardo BurchielliEden is a riveting science fiction story that features the lives of escaped convicts, abandoned in a fantastical world. This thought-provoking graphic novel marries Arnold’s high concept storytelling with the mind-blowing artwork of Burchielli, with colors by Luca Salce, and lettering by Ed Dukeshire. The project is edited by noted editor Will Dennis. Told in 5 heart-pounding chapters, Eden debuts on March 29, 2022 from comiXology Originals.

Eden is a story about starting over. When a new law declares that convicted criminals should be cryogenically frozen instead of jailed, society thinks it has found a more humane way to deal with inmates. But when a senator, accused of a horrible crime, is imprisoned under this new system, she will have to face a bizarre and frightening reality, unlike anything she can imagine.

In the graphic novel, two convicts, senator Anna Croft, and her sheriff husband, Ben, are sentenced to twenty-five years to life in a newly constructed cryogenic penal facility for a crime they claim they didn’t commit. Due to a malfunction, however, Anna, Ben and a few others are accidentally released. Once free, the escapees discover that they’ve been frozen for thousands of years, and are the only survivors in a catastrophic future, where prehistoric creatures walk the Earth once more. Given a second chance, the fugitives are forced to create a new society and must decide whether or not to release the rest of the imprisoned criminals in order to survive. Under Anna’s leadership, can these ‘bad seeds’ actually seed a new and better world, or are they doomed to repeat the mistakes of humanity’s checkered history?

Dark Horse will publish Eden in print for the first time on July 12, 2022.
