Review: Rick and Morty Presents: Jerry #1

Rick and Morty Presents: Jerry #1

One of the greatest actors of all time, and one whose career was cut way too short, was John Belushi. Anyone who has seen him on Saturday Night Live or any myriad of movies he was in can attest to his truly unique talent. His many skits on SNL were legendary and continue to inspire comedic minds everywhere. To only remember him for his role of John Blutarsky in Animal House is fairly reductive but understandable. He only appeared in 13 movies and every role was also quite memorable.

One of my favorite films by him was Neighbors where he played Earl Keese, a mild-mannered man whose life gets turned upside down by an insufferable couple who moves in next door. His performance in that film would have an inadvertent influence on storytellers everywhere leading them to discover characters who would normally be invisible in life and most stories. One fairly popular example of his inspiration is Stephen Root’s portrayal of Milton in Office Space one that is melancholic and amusing at once. Another such character can be found in Rick and Morty in the character of Jerry who is deftly explored in Rick and Morty Presents: Jerry#1.

We catch up with Jerry, shortly after he gets back with Beth, as his self confidence takes a nosedive when Beth doesn’t find him attractive anymore. This is when Jerry decides to take matters into his own hands buying everything that every weight loss guru sells, that is until Rick offers him a new invention that will get him there faster. The experiment is a success making Jerry a buffer and nicer version of himself but as all Rick’s experiments do, they go haywire, as his new invention has some dangerous side effects, making him a mutant.

Overall, the comic is a funny and entertaining story that captures the feeling of the show. The story by Ryan Ferrier is fun, rollicking, and irreverent. The art by CJ Cannon, Josh Perez, and Sarah Stern is beautiful. Altogether, an amusing story that feels like an episode of Rick and Morty.

Rick and Morty Presents is back by popular demand! This very special issue focuses on everyone’s favorite character, Jerry. Jerry’s wisely blaming all his marital issues on his Dad-bod. When he goes to Rick for a quick fix, things go so poorly, it’s…demonic. Written by Ryan Ferrier (Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Regular Show, D4VE, and more!), with series artists CJ Cannon and Joshua Perez! Cover C by Chris Uminga is only available as an ECCC exclusive.

The Flash, Nightwing, and Batgirl Join DC Collectible’s Artists Alley

With just a month away from the hotly-anticipated debut of DC Artists Alley, DC Collectibles today announced three new iconic DC Super Heroes – The Flash, Nightwing, and Batgirl – will join the cutting-edge designer vinyl line in December 2018. Each character will be designed by a different 2018 DC Artists Alley designer including Connecticut-based painter and illustrator, Chris Uminga; comic creator and graphic designer, HaiNaNu “Nooligan” Saulque; and San Francisco-based artist, Sho Murase.

DC Artists Alley is an artist-focused designer vinyl line and is inspired by the popular “Artist Alley” convention experience. The new figures announced today include Uminga’s signature “creepy and cute” design of the fastest man alive, The Flash; Nooligan’s “streetwear” makeover of DC’s popular Nightwing character; and Murase’s exaggerated take on Batgirl in a striking palette of red, white and black. DC Collectibles will offer black and white variant editions of The Flash and Nightwing figures, and a vibrant green holiday variant for Murase’s Batgirl design.

Prior to the new figures’ debut in December, the DC Artist Alley line will launch in June with Uminga’s designs of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman; followed by Nooligan’s unique interpretations of The Joker, Batman and Harley Quinn in September; and Murase’s transformations of Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn in November.

All June, September and November waves are available for pre-order now and the newly announced The Flash, Nightwing and Batgirl figures will be available for pre-order beginning May 22, 2018.

DC Collectibles Announces Batman Black and White Action Figures and June 2018 Lineup

DC Collectibles is gearing up for a fun-filled June 2018 stocked with enough new statues, action figures and collectibles to please both DC’s most dedicated fans and those just starting out with their collections. Headlining DC Collectibles’ June releases is an all-new Batman Black & White action figure line based on the company’s bestselling statue line of the same name. The moveable 6.75’’ action figures will debut alongside the first wave of DC Artists Alley designer vinyls that will now feature three new black and white variants. DC Collectibles will also release a stunning 12’’ statue based on the critically acclaimed Dark Nights: Metal comic book series and new additions to its Harley Quinn: Red, White & Black and DC Gallery lines.

After 75+ statues and counting, DC Collectibles is transforming its longest running and most popular line of Batman Black and White statues into highly detailed, articulated 6.75’’ action figures. The first wave debuts in June 2018 and stars Jim Lee’s Batman from Batman: Hush, Greg Capullo’s Batman from Batman: Death of the Family and Batman from the Super Hero’s first appearance in Detective Comics #27.

DC Collectibles will also add three black and white variants to its first wave of DC Artists Alley designer vinyls that features the popular art style of Chris Uminga. Announced earlier this year, the upcoming DC Artists Alley line celebrates offbeat artists and allows them to put their unique spin on DC’s most popular characters. The first wave of figures, including the newly announced variants, showcase Uminga’s take on Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman.

DC Collectibles is also bringing to life the gruesome, axe-wielding Batman from Greg Capullo’s Dark Nights: Metal #1 variant cover as a 12’’ DC Designer Series statue. This original take on Batman will be joined by a new Harley Quinn: Red, White and Black statue by Jae Lee and a life-size replica of The Joker cane. The cane features an intricately designed Joker-themed handle and is an accessory sure to enhance your swagger.
