The Tick returns to comics for the first time since 2021 in an all-new issue for the Baltimore Comic-Con! Celebrate 30 years of The Tick animated series and meet creators behind this new issue!

This exciting Special Edition comic book is published by Ian Chase Nichols and Jeff McClelland, partnering with long-time Tick publisher New England Comics Press to bring you a tale originally conceived by Ben Edlund himself! This comic features “The Microbe Adventure” from Benito Cereno (Invincible Presents, Tales from the Bully Pulpit), Nichols (TMNTTMNT/BatmanConan), and Duane Redhead (2000ADTeddy and the Yeti), with a backup tale by McClelland (The Illustrated AlPlanet Comics).

Writer/producer Ben Edlund created The Tick in 1986 in New England Comics Newsletter 14. The character soon found a cult following in his eponymous 1988 comic book series, the beloved 1994 Fox Kids animated series, and two live-action series, in 2001 on Fox and 2016 on Amazon Prime. Edlund and The Tick are being celebrated by the 2024 Baltimore Comic-Con, where Edlund is the show’s featured Guest of Honor.

Nichols and McClelland will also be guests of the Baltimore Comic-Con, held September 20th-22nd, where copies of the new Limited Edition Comic will be available along with sketches, signatures, books, and more.

Baltimore Comic-Con’s Yearbook Returns in 2024 with The Tick

Come to the Baltimore Comic-Con‘s 25th anniversary celebration this September 20-22 at the Baltimore Convention Center in the Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Tickets to the show are now available.

The annual tradition, the Baltimore Comic-Con Yearbook, returns in 2024 for the twelfth year, celebrating creators and friends of the show. This year’s book of art features interpretations of characters from 2024 guest Ben Edlund’s The Tick!

Beautifully designed by returning guest and Cupid’s ArrowsWarning LabelTime and Vine, and Love and Capes creator Thom Zahler, the book comes in a standard and, for VIP ticketholders, a limited VIP cover edition.

An escaped (but super-powered) mental patient in the comics, The Tick patrols The City with his trusty sidekick Arthur, a one-time accountant turned superhero sidekick with a moth costume. His wild universe of characters include Paul the Samurai, Man-Eating Cow, and Chainsaw Vigilante. He is, perhaps, most often noted for his memorable battle call, “SPOON!”

The Tick has gone on to enjoy multiple media adaptations, including the highly popular animated series on Fox (which premiered 30 years ago this year!), a live action series on the same network, and most recently, an Amazon Prime Video adaptation, in addition to a video game, action figures, merchandise, costumes, Pogs, and a board game.

The Baltimore Comic-Con scavenger hunt, which has become a must-do activity for many of our fans, will be back in 2024! When you buy the book, you’ll get a list of Yearbook contributors and their table numbers. Participants succeeding in acquiring the appropriate quota of autographs from contributors can then get their choice of bonus prints — and it’s a great way to meet our guests!

Art created for the 2024 Baltimore Comic-Con Yearbook Featuring The Tick will be auctioned off at the Baltimore Comic-Con Art Auction on Saturday, September 21st. Fans and art collectors alike won’t want to miss this opportunity to win these one-of-a-kind items, only available at the Baltimore Comic-Con!

The book will be sold in the Exclusives Booth in the lobby. The book will be available at the Baltimore Comic-Con for $29.99. The art auction featuring original art from the book will be held during the show weekend of September 20-22, 2024.

Spoon! Baltimore Comic-Con 2024 welcomes Ben Edlund as a guest

Ben Edlund

Baltimore Comic-Con is celebrating its 25th Anniversary the weekend of September 20-22, 2024 at the Inner Harbor’s Baltimore Convention Center. Baltimore Comic-Con has announced Ben Edlund as a guest of the 25th Anniversary event! Check out the website for ticketing information and more!

Ben Edlund is best known for creating The Tick, a comedy superhero character which has enjoyed steady cult fandom since the late 1980s. Edlund is apparently obsessed — after writing and drawing the original Tick comic book series, he went on to create an animated cartoon (of which 2024 marks the 30th Anniversary) and two live action series based on this long-running character.

Alongside the travails of his Big Blue Friend, Edlund has enjoyed a decades-long career in genre television. As a writer, director, and/or producer on series like FireflyAngelSupernaturalRevolutionThe Venture Bros., and Gotham among others, he has had the opportunity to add his voice to many iconic fantasy and sci fi shows. Ben still draws, writes, and produces television, and has recently branched out into VR production, just to see what this whole ‘future’ thing is about. He also dresses up like a tiger and fronts the Los Angeles art-rock band Ghost Tyger & Friends, available for parties.
