The Dark Multiverse Invades DC Collectibles with Dark Batman Dark Nights: Metal Statues

Straight from the pages of the bestselling Dark Nights: Metal comics series comes an all-new line of 7” statues from DC Collectibles. These awesomely dark Batman statues honor Greg Capullo’s art from the comic book in stunning detail and are perfect additions to any Metal fan’s collection.

Launching in May 2019, the line will recreate eight characters from the series in total, including the fearsome Batman Who Laughs as a deluxe statue. You can also look for a Batman with baby Darkseid statue, as well as the six other Dark Multiverse Batmen: The Red Death, The Drowned, The Dawnbreaker, The Murder Machine, The Merciless, and The Devastator.

Fans looking to build a perfect—and thoroughly metal—display should note that all of the statues feature uniquely shaped bases that are designed to be configured together in a variety of ways. It’s a DC Collectibles first! Even more, some of the pieces also feature interchangeable parts and articulation, another aspect which helps to set these statues apart from the rest.

Dark Nights: Metal Batman: The Dawnbreaker will be the first statue out of the gate in May 2019 and will be available for purchase at an MSRP of $85.00 . Intricately sculpted by Adrienne Smith, The Dawnbreaker features an interchangeable hand, allowing you to switch between his normal appearance and one where he’s forming a construct.

With the success of the comics series and the number of metalhead comic fans out there, these statues are likely to move pretty quick. Don’t miss your chance to grab them as they roll out throughout the upcoming year for yourself or any Dark Nights: Metal fan in your life.

Review: Batman: The Red Death #1

As the events of Dark Nights: Metal rock the DC Universe, the creatures of the Dark Multiverse stand ready to invade our world! How can even the World’s Greatest Heroes stop a horde of deadly beings that appear to be powerful, nightmare versions of familiar figures?

Dark Nights: Metal #2 introduced us to twisted version of Batman stemming from the Dark Multiverse and in a series of one-shots we get to find out more about each of them. If Batman: The Red Death is any indication as to what’s to come, DC is bringing their A-game and then some.

Written by Joshua Williamson this issue is an origin of this Flash meets Batman as we get to see how Red Death came to be and we get our first real glimpse of the Dark Multiverse.

Williamson delivers and then some packing so much into the issue it’s impressive as to how much is there. We get to see the origin, the universe, the world, get some motivation, a lot of action, it’s just a hell of a lot and entertaining from cover to cover. What’s even greater is that Williamson infuses a horror vibe into it all extending the vibe writer Scott Snyder set in the main event series. It’s creepy and slightly off and at the same time, familiar. This is the stuff of nightmares made mainstream. But, even through those nightmares, Williamson still gives us heroics and a bit of hope. This isn’t “dark” just to be “dark,” there’s so much more there that makes it more.

Williamson is helped by Carmine Di Giandomenico who brings his Flash style to the issue and holy crap is it awesome. Can we get him on a Batman book? There’s just a flow to it all that ups the action and delivers with every panel. Add in the utter destruction and detail, it all adds up into art that enhances the story’s setting and overall vibe.

Coming out the other side of the issue, I want more of this nightmarish Dark Multiverse. No matter what happens at the end of Metal, this issue alone has me wanting to see DC explore these worlds more and give us the dark twisted versions of our heroes I never knew I wanted.

Top Pick(s): Bloodshot Salvation #1 and Secret Weapons #4 (Valiant Entertainment) –  There’s a funny thing this week. There’s really only two comics I can’t wait to pick up from my LCS, and both are from Valiant: Bloodshot: Salvation #1 and Secret Weapons #4. While I’ve read both, I want to reread them both in print without the review copy watermark on them.

Mr. Crypt #1 (Alterna) – It’s a living skeleton and the comic is about $1.50. What’s not to love?

Top Pick: Jean Grey #7 (Marvel) – I’ve really been enjoying this series and seeing Jean meeting up with other heroes and learning from them has been fun. But to be totally honest, I’m really just looking forward to seeing Scarlet Witch in this issue. Not too much of a fan boy, eh?

Super Sons #8 (DC Comics) – This is a fun, action filled super hero book that you all should be reading.

U.S.Avengers #10 (Marvel) – I’m interested to see how the fall of Hydra will effect this team, and looking forward to them going out to look for Cannonball. This book is hit or miss with me, and the Secret Empire tie ins were just alright, so I’m hoping things pick up.

X-Men Gold #12 (Marvel) – This book has been a good read, even though I do have a few issues on how some characters have been depicted or altogether pushed to the side (looking at Storm). I would like to see this book be more of a team feel like the first few issues were; lately is just feels like ‘the tales of Shadowcat and Colossus’ with the rest of the team just popping up as support.

Batwoman #7 (DC Comics) – Kate and her dad spend some time stranded in the first installment of the Fear and Loathing story arc.

Harley Quinn #28 (DC Comics) – Harley’s running for office. An anti-heroine for the people!

Harley Quinn Batman Day Special (DC Comics) – I’m all for anything Harley related especially when we get to see her toxic relationship fable with Joker. Here’s to hoping that she stays smart and stays single .

Luke Cage #5 ( Marvel) – It’s going down in New Orleans and I’ve got popcorn.

Top Pick: Batman: The Red Death #1 (DC Comics) – I’m all in with DC’s latest even Metal and this one gives us the scoop on one of the alternate worlds’ Batman. I’ve read it and holy crap is it good.

Catalyst Prime: Superb #3 (Lion Forge Comics) – I’ve been sucked into the Catalyst Prime world and this series is standing out in a teenage superhero sort of way that has enough different to make it a must read.

Dark Ark #1 (AfterShock) – You know the story of Noah… but what about that other ark?

Misbegotten: Runaway Nun #1 (Action Lab: Danger Zone) – Haven’t read this yet but it feels like the grindhouse sort of concept and movie that I really enjoy.

World of Animosity #1 (AfterShock) – This amazing comic world expands with this new series and is absolutely a world you should be checking out if you haven’t already.

The Dark Knight’s Rise at DC Comics

After teasing comic book fans with ominous shadow images of six evil Batmen from the Dark Multiverse several weeks ago, their final, terrifying images have been revealed by DC Comics.

Each of these malevolent characters – The Red Death, The Murder Machine, The Dawnbreaker, The Drowned, the Merciless and The Devastator – all represent corrupted versions of Batman set upon the DC universe to help conquer it once and for all, as part of the Dark Nights: Metal event beginning this August.

Evil Versions of the Dark Knight are Coming to Terrorize Earth

Evil versions of the Dark Knight are coming to terrorize Earth this September, as DC Comics has teased early details on a series of seven one-shot comics that tie into the upcoming Dark Nights: Metal event. Each one-shot story spotlights a different, corrupted version of Batman spawned from the Dark Multiverse to wreak havoc on Earth.

Meet The Red Death, The Murder Machine, The Dawnbreaker, The Drowned, The Merciless, The Devastator and The Batman Who Laughs.

The terror begins on September 20 with Batman: The Red Death #1, by Joshua Williamson (writer) Carmine Di Giandomenico (artist), followed by Batman: The Murder Machine #1, written by Frank Tieri with art by Ricardo Federici on September 27. Writer Sam Humphries and artist Ethan Van Sciver will team up on Batman: The Dawnbreaker #1, on sale October 4, with Dan Abnett and artist Philip Tan collaborating on Batman: The Drowned #1 October 18. The month concludes with Peter J. Tomasi and Francis Manapul on Batman: The Merciless #1, on sale October 25.

November features two additional one-shot titles, Batman: The Devastator #1 (on sale November 1) and The Batman Who Laughs #1 (on sale November 15).

The presence of these malevolent characters infects some of DC’s deadliest Super-Villains, who are ready to take down Gotham City once and for all. But rest assured, DC’s bravest heroes aren’t rolling over for anybody and are ready to fight for the city’s very soul in “Gotham Resistance,” a series of crossover stories beginning with Teen Titans #12 written by Benjamin Percy with art by Mirka Andolfo (on sale September 13), Nightwing #29 by Tim Seeley and Paul Pelletier (on sale September 20) and Suicide Squad #26 by Rob Williams and Stjepan Sejic (on sale September 27).

Each $3.99 Batman one-shot ships with a special foil stamped cover featuring a protective UV coating, with art by fan-favorite creator Jason Fabok. Issue #1 of Dark Nights: Metal hits comic book stores and digital retailers on Wednesday, August 16.
