IDW Publishing Expands its Artist Editions with New Releases From DC

IDW Publishing has signed an agreement with DC to produce Artist’s Editions releases based on highly celebrated works from legendary comic book icons David Mazzucchelli and Neal Adams. The first two books, launching in mid-2024, will be David Mazzucchelli’s Batman: Yar One Artist’s Edition and Neal Adam’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition. More Artist’s Editions by stellar artists will be announced over the next few months.

David Mazzucchelli’s Batman: Year One, written by industry legend Frank Miller, is considered to be one of the greatest Batman stories ever told. In addition to the covers and interiors, all the layouts from the series will be included. Iconic designer Chip Kidd will be designing the book.

Neal Adams’ DC Classics Artist’s Edition will feature a wide assortment of classic Neal Adams art from the late 1960s to the mid-1970s, which is generally considered to be Adams’ greatest period. The book will include five complete stories and an amazing assortment of covers and pages. The book will feature two covers, Green Lantern/Green Arrow #76, the first issue of the classic run by Denny O’Neil and Adams, and Batman #232, the first appearance of Ra’s al Ghul. 

Setting the industry standard for high-end archival collectibles, IDW’s Artist’s Editions provide comic lovers everywhere with the most authentic original comic art experience possible. Each oversized hardcover in the line collects pages from acclaimed comic book runs, with each page scanned in high resolution from the actual storyboard artwork of such legends as Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee, John Buscema, Dave Stevens, and many more. In a perfect representation of the work in its original form, each page is printed the same size as drawn, and the paper selected is as close as possible to the original art board.

IDW’s Artist’s Editions Line expands with new Marvel releases

IDW Publishing and Marvel Entertainment are expanding their longtime collaboration with the development of over two dozen new releases in IDW’s multi-award-winning Artist’s Editions line.

IDW has announced four new Marvel-focused products for Fall 2023:

Walter Simonson’s Fantastic Four Artist’s Edition (9798887240350, scheduled for September) collects complete stories of mythic proportions from Fantastic Four #337–341 and #352–354, a celebrated run from Simonson on “the World’s Greatest Comic Magazine.”

Bill Sienkiewicz’s Mutants and Moon Knights and Assassins Artisan Edition (9781684059683, scheduled for September) spotlights some of the finest covers, pinups, and pages from Sienkiewicz’s Moon Knight, The New Mutants, and Elektra: Assassin projects.

John Romita’s Amazing Spider-Man: The Daily Strips Artist’s Edition (9798887240558, scheduled for October) showcases approximately 300 of the very earliest Amazing Spider-Man daily comic strips by the two creators most associated with the Web-Slinger: Stan “the Man” Lee and “Jaunty” John Romita.

John Byrne’s X-Men Artist’s Edition (9798887240435, scheduled for November), printed for the first time since 2018, collects many pages from seminal tales of Marvel’s mutants, including two of the most influential comic storylines of all time: “The Dark Phoenix Saga” and “Days of Future Past.”

These new Artist’s Editions products are in addition to three Marvel-focused items already announced for 2023: Kevin Nowlan’s Marvel Heroes Artist’s Edition (9781684059720, scheduled for April), Michael Golden’s Marvel Stories Artist’s Edition (9781684059195, scheduled for July), and Frank Miller’s Daredevil Artist’s Edition (9798887240046, scheduled for August). Even more exciting Marvel Artist’s Edition projects are expected to be announced for 2023 and beyond.

Michael Kaluta is one of the most revered and versatile artist’s in comics and illustration. He is frequently recognized as the definitive artist of The Shadow, has been praised for his Lord of the Rings paintings, and illustrated the Metropolis novel. He was also part of the legendary artist’s collective (along with Jeff Jones, Barry Windsor-Smith, and Bernie Wrightson) known simply as THE STUDIO.

But if any project is closest to the artist’s heart it would be Starstruck, an ongoing space-fantasy that began in the pages of Heavy Metal Magazine in 1982, was a Marvel Comics Graphic Novel in 1984, and several series’ of comics from various publishers in the 1980s and ‘90s. Starstruck is still a work in progress and IDW Publishing will release a new series in early 2017, with expanded stories by Lee and Kaluta.

Mike Mignola’s Next Big Book at IDW!

New York Comic Con 2014: IDW and Marvel Expand Their Artist’s Editions Partnership

IDW PublishingAt New York Comic Con, IDW Publishing and Marvel announced their ever-growing partnership, starting with new Artist’s Editions based on Marvel comics coming in 2015!

IDW Publishing’s award-winning Artist’s Edition line has featured some of Marvel’s best known characters and creators like Walter Simonson’s The Mighty Thor, John Romita’s The Amazing Spider-Man (Vol. 1 & 2), David Mazzucchelli’s Daredevil Born Again, Gil Kane’s The Amazing Spider-Man, John Byrne’s Fantastic Four, Steranko: Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D and most recently with the Marvel Covers Artist’s Edition. In November, IDW will continue the tradition of bringing the brightest stars of Marvel to the Artist’s Edition line with the release of John Buscema’s Silver Surfer and John Romita’s The Amazing Spider-Man Artifact Edition (Vol. 3) early next year. In 2015, and beyond, IDW and Marvel will partner to add titles and creators that will rightfully take their place among this already illustrious list.
