Chris Hedges and Joe Sacco are going on tour for Requiem for Gaza

In the spring of 2025, the cartoonist Joe Sacco, author of Palestine and Footnotes in Gaza, and Chris Hedges, the former Middle East Bureau Chief for The New York Times, traveled to Cairo where they interviewed 29 Palestinian families who had recently left Gaza.

In Requiem for Gaza, they use the experience and stories of these families to detail the crucible of the genocide, the loss of homes and communities, the appalling death toll among friends and loved ones, the constant displacement, the terror of indiscriminate killing, the hunger and deprivation, the obliteration of all that was known and familiar, and the struggle to cope with the callous indifference of a world that continues to supply Israel with weapons despite its wholesale destruction of Gaza and mass slaughter. Hedges’ vivid prose and Sacco’s visceral images complement each other and together paint a portrait of dignity and suffering under genocide.

They are going on tour to discuss this profound and elegiac work of investigative journalism—here are their stops in October:

Avengers Endgame: Encore leads the Weekend Box Office with 4 Out of the Top 5 Being Debuts

Avengers: Endgame Encore

It’s been a bit since we’ve had three films all gross $20 million or more the same weekend. There was also an impressive four debuting films in the top five. Avengers Endgame: Encore led that pack with an estimated $26 million it also grossed $60 million internationally for an impressive worldwide gross of $86 million. For a re-release that’s very solid teasing that Avengers: Doomsday might be a massive release later this year. The original film grossed $2.799 billion. Will this run put that over the $3 billion mark? Will it take the top spot of worldwide gross of all time?

Resident Evil slipped to second place with $23.3 million domestically to lift its domestic gross to $103.5 million. Internationally, the movie grossed $44.7 million to bring that total to $93 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $196.5 million.

Heart of the Beast debuted in third place with $20 million domestic gross and $30.1 million international for a worldwide debut of $50.1 million.

Primetime debuted in fourth place with a domestic gross of $19.2 million. There’s no international gross reported.

Rounding out the top five was Forgotten Island which opened with $12.8 million domestic and $7.8 million international for a worldwide debut of $20.6 million.

In comic related movies…

Spider-Man: Brand New Day slipped to seventh place, it’s first weekend out of the top five, with $4.1 million to bring its domestic gross to $950.7 million. Internationally, it added $11 million over the week and has grossed $1.545 billion for a worldwide gross of $2.496 billion.

Coyote vs. Acme rounded out the top ten. It grossed an estimated $1.3 million to bring its domestic total to $57.8 million. Over the week, it grossed $4.7 million internationally to bring that to $29.7 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $88 million. The movie would need to gross around $120 million for Ketchup to make a profit and it’d have had to have grossed $140 million if Warner Bros. released it.

The Transformers: The Movie wrapped up its run with $4.2 million domestically and $579,850 internationally for a little over $5 million worldwide. That’s close to the original’s release back in 1986.

Numbers have 36 movies grossing $121,894,258 from 32,014 theaters for an average of $3,807.53. That is compared to last week’s 66 movies grossing $111,744,444 from 38,249 theaters for an average of $2,921.50.
