Showdown #4 has Trish exploring what she didn’t know about her brother

It’s the last day before the showdown, and both Harvey and Trish have to face some hard truths. For Trish, she is starting to see that her brother may not have been the perfect young man she thought he was. For Harvey, it’s that there isn’t as much in his life to settle as he thought there might be. And for both, it’s the very real fact that the town they call home has very little regard for either of them. This penultimate issue sets up everything before the real final showdown begins.

Get a first look at Heat of Fashion, coming this Winter from Maverick!

This winter, ​​Maverick, the young adult imprint of Mad Cave Studios, presents Heat of Fashion, a trans and queer-friendly YA romantic comedy from writer Lilah Sturges, artist Natalie Nardozza, colorist Diana Tsai Santos, and letterer Rob Jones.

When Haring Arts and Design Magnet School royalty Ben Wilcox is assigned to work with maverick and outsider Annie Jacobs, he’s enthralled by her talent and her charms and does whatever it takes to get her to like him, including lying about his dating history. They fall in love while working on their final senior project, but when Annie discovers Ben’s lies, it doesn’t just damage their relationship: it threatens to sink their senior project as well!

The writer of numerous comics, including Girl Haven, The Science of Ghosts, and Public Relations, as well as titles from DC, Marvel, IDW, and other publishers, Lilah Sturges uses the romantic comedy setup to dig into trust, identity, and the mess people create when they try to become what someone else wants. The story brings queer and trans characters into a funny, complicated look at romance, friendship, and the pressure to get everything right before graduation.

Nardozza is a Montreal-born comic artist and writer whose recent work includes projects for Archie Horror and DC, alongside her own graphic novel series adapted into vertical-style comics online. Inspired by Barbie fashion and Sailor Moon, her colorful artwork brings the high-pressure halls of Haring Arts and Design Magnet School to life.

Set against the creativity, competition, and social pressure of fashion school, Heat of Fashion brings queer and trans characters into a YA romantic comedy about attraction, trust, and the increasingly complicated consequences of trying to become the person someone else wants.

Skybound, Image Comics, and Hasbro have shared a first look at Transformers #37 from the creative team of writer Robert Kirkman, guest artist Karl Kerschl, colorist Mike Spicer, and letterer Rus Wooton. The new story arc begins with a standalone Elita Prime story in Transformers #37, available in comic book shops on October 14, 2026.

Early Review: Dungeons & Dragons #1 is an accessible, action, and humor packed series

In the first issue of the new Dungeons and Dragons ongoing series for Dark Horse, Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Ibraim Roberson, Arabson Oliveira, and Dan Brown strike a balance similar to the role of their wizard protagonist Mordenkainen, who is basically the ultimate centrist of magic. (But in a more badass than spineless way.) They pepper this comic with dark prophecies, characters on serious missions, and of course, there’s a giant dragon on the first page. However, Dungeons and Dragons #1 has humor and sexual tension as well with Lanzing and Kelly writing fun banter between Mordenkainen and the grifter/bard/author Volo, who he runs into our favorite of first act settings: the local tavern. Dungeons and Dragons is full of deep lore, complex magic, gods, monsters, and more, but it has a wit and self-awareness that appeals to the more casual fans of franchise like yours truly.

In crafting these characters, Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, and Roberson create a sort of axis of seriousness on a scale of apocalypse to sexual innuendo. If there’s a lot of exposition, they season it with a well-timed quip or some kind of background gag to keep the yawns away and keep the story engaging. Mordenkainen and Volo have a classic comedy team dynamic, and this is amplified when other party members start to show up as the comic progresses. Also, kudos to Dungeons and Dragons’ creative team for taking time to flesh out the key players in the story instead of bombarding readers with names, abilities, places, and other various and sundry things that would have me scrambling around on Wikia instead of engaging in the story at hand. Because the comic takes place in one of the most richly developed fantasy worlds, there is a buzz of activity, but Lanzing and Kelly take an iceberg theory meets Chris Claremont subplots eventually become the main plot approach in Dungeons and Dragons #1. I’ve only read the first issue so I’m not 100% sure on the second part, but let’s just say I’m hoping for an old school 50-60 issue run or beyond on this series.

Visually, Dungeons and Dragons #1 goes for high fantasy shock and awe with a varied approach to page design depending on the tone of each story beat. Cover artist Esad Ribic sets the tone with a harried band of adventurers versus big ass dragon cover bringing the epic scope of his work on titles like Thor, Secret Wars, and Eternals to the world of D&D. Ibraim Roberson, Oliveira, and Brown match his approach in the interior art. Dan Brown’s palette show off the range of this book from the crackling warmth of a tavern to magic energy out the wazoo in the action bits. They succeed at splash or widescreen compositions that are a worthy game store poster or more screwball comedy scene that endear readers to the cast of characters and enhance Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly’s dialogue. Even Arabson Oliveira’s inks contribute to characterization with some folks having more of an aura than others.

Dungeons and Dragons #1 is an accessible, action, and humor packed series debut that reminded me a lot of the Forgotten Realms novels that I read when I was younger. However, Lanzing, Kelly, Roberson, and Oliveira don’t shy away from darker elements and moral ambiguity. And did I mention the dragons? In all seriousness, if you enjoy being immersed in a compelling fantasy world with peril and danger, order this one from your local comic shop even if you’re constantly Googling what a kobold is and should probably bookmark their Wiki page.

Master of the Drive-Ins Joe Bob Briggs Stars in MonsterVision Comics!

Grab a cold one, pull up a lawn chair, and get ready for some Texas-style horror comedy antics! Dynamite presents MonsterVision, a brand-new comic book series launching this December starring drive-in icons Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl.

The beloved genre host and his kick-ass co-star invite readers along on a deep-fried, monster-hunting adventure filled with B-movie horror, endless Easter eggs, and a game-changing revelation that will turn their classic dynamic on its head.

Writer David Avallone brings his horror-host expertise from Elvira: Mistress of the Dark to these brand-new MonsterVision adventures. His deep knowledge and love for all things pulp, camp, and macabre are the perfect match for the Lone Star State’s most esteemed critic of schlock and screams.

Joe Bob Briggs is a celebrated film critic, writer, actor, comic performer, and one of the world’s foremost horror hosts. He is known for Joe Bob’s Drive-In Theater on The Movie Channel from 1986 to 1996, the TNT series MonsterVision from 1996 to 2000, and The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs beginning in 2018 on Shudder/AMC. Now, his unique approach to film, comedy, and horror comes to comics!
