Lucas Dreamwalker Steps Out from the Pages of Hello Darkness

How many times can you be killed in a dream before you die? Legendary horror scribe R.L. Stine and award-winning illustrator Francesco Francavilla explore that very question as the mystery of Lucas’s third death is foretold in this pulpy, noir, somnambulist adventure in The Life and Death of Lucas Dreamwalker #1!

Originally published in the hit BOOM! Studios horror anthology series Hello Darkness, this oversized one-shot collects all three parts of the nightmarish saga into one thrilling read!

The Life and Death of Lucas Dreamwalker #1 will be available in comic shops May 27, 2026

Barbarian Behind Bars #1 is a great debut with a solid concept, set up, and art

Who is the mysterious, musclebound warrior who came to our world in a storm of magic and violence?! That’s what public defender Irene Chang wants to know. This guy came out of nowhere, doesn’t speak English, and now she’s supposed to help him beat a murder charge after he chopped some other weird dude’s head off with a magic axe in broad daylight? Of course, he may not live to go to trial, with all the enemies he’s making in prison. Good thing his cellmate grills a mean cheese sandwich.

Story: Elliott Kalan

Lewis LaRosa Joins Fort Psycho #1 with Co-Creators Matt Kindt and Brian Hurtt for Highly Flammable Cover Run

Oni Press has announced that comics master Lewis LaRosa is joining the hugely anticipated debut of New York Times best-selling creator Matt Kindt’Flux House imprint at Oni Press as a new cover artist for all 12 issues of Fort Psycho – the brand-new, high-intensity, compulsively page-turning maxi-series from Kindt and acclaimed artist Brian Hurtt!

Beginning with Fort Psycho #1 (of 12) – hitting stands everywhere in August – LaRosa will join series co-creator and interior artist Brian Hurtt on ongoing shelf covers for the shrapnel-laden, nerve-tightening action epic that will soon unravel the many secrets and betrayals of a team of disgraced secret agents … and the truth about the classified island prison where they have been sent to atone for their innumerable crimes. LaRosa’s raw black-and-white artwork will additionally be made available as additional, incentive covers from Fort Psycho #1 onward through the series’ long-planned, closely held conclusion.

Ten years ago, the nation of Singapore sank into the Pacific Ocean. The underground terrorist network known as The Seven Seals took credit for the largest act of terror in human history. In the aftermath, the United Nations created a strike team of highly trained covert operatives with one mission: locate, identify, and eliminate The Seven Seals’ secretive leader. The team’s clandestine affairs were to always remain in the shadows – until their final, explosive confrontation with The Seven Seals resulted in a large-scale tragedy too bloody to cover up and too tragic to ignore. Disgraced and disavowed by the governments that trained them, the world’s most dangerous secret agents have been convicted for their crimes and sentenced to serve time side-by-side in the one place capable of holding them: their old island headquarters, Fort Cyclone – now known in the media by the derogatory nickname “Fort Psycho.” And that’s where the official story is about to go terribly, terribly wrong.

Who will live? Who will die? And where do they keep getting all that ammo? MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE meets LOST on a tropical island paradise stocked with trained killers, secret betrayals, and the long-buried truth about the mission that brought them there when Fort Psycho #1 (of 12) comes barrelling into stories in August 2026!

Survive #5 delivers 80s action film awesomeness in its finale

Bruised, battered, and suffering from a serious case of the Bends, but far from out of the fight. Deep inside the Turgenev, they’ve uncovered a hidden stockpile of nuclear weapons, guarded by a ruthless band of heavily armed Russian mercenaries. With a U.S. Navy anti-ship cruise missile locked onto the vessel and seconds ticking down, Trent and Stepan must carve a path through the mercs, secure the ship, and trigger the strike that will obliterate the Turgenev before its deadly payload can reach its target.

Story: Robert Venditti, Matt Kindt
Art: Doug Braithwaite, Lewis Larosa
Color: Diego Rodriguez, Laura Martin
Letterer: Dave Sharpe, DC Hopkins

Mini Reviews: Spider-Man Noir #5, Die Loaded #4, Bleeding Hearts #1, The Crown: A Tale of Hell #1, Star Wars: Jar Jar #1

Star Wars: Jar Jar #1

Sometimes, the staff at Graphic Policy read more comics than we’re able to get reviewed. When that happens you’ll see a weekly feature compiling reviews of the comics, or graphic novels, we just didn’t get a chance to write a full one for.

These are Graphic Policy’s Mini Reviews and Recommendations.

Logan

Spider-Man Noir #5 (Marvel) Erik Larsen, Andrea Broccardo, and Rachelle Rosenberg mix a little bit of Clone saga and a Spider-Man “No More” with a lot of Nazi punching and the pulpy action that is Spider-Man Noir’s signature in the final issue of this miniseries. This could very well be the *last* Spider-Man Noir story as Larsen and Broccardo show the cost that Peter Parker’s alter ego has taken on both his relationships and life in general as he’s caught in the crossfire between Nazis and old school American gangsters. I love the level of maturity that Erik Larsen writes Peter and Gwen’s relationship with as she struggles with the father who she worshiped and idolized being a Nazi. Maybe, Peter Parker will live a relatively quiet life as a 1930s P.I., but a final panel leaves the door open for more masked man adventures. Overall: 8 Verdict: Buy

Die Loaded #4 (Image) Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans introduce a new party member in Die Loaded #4. It’s Chuck’s son, Callum, who is a Fool like his father and probably a bigger one with access to the right wing landscapes of online gaming and anime porn as Sophie resignedly observes. Sophie must balance trying to put Callum in his place and getting the quest started and realizing that one day her son, Stuart, will be a teenager and hopefully won’t be like this misogynist. It’s really fun watching Sophie grow into the role of Godbinder and interface with the world of Die while Gillen and Hans take potshots at Chosen One tropes and Gen Z. There’s a frosted glass flashback that particularly shows her growth as a leader as the new quest begins. Overall: 8.6 Verdict: Buy

Bleeding Hearts #1 (DC/Vertigo) – Vertigo is back with a bang thanks to the reunion of 20th Century Men‘s Deniz Camp and Stipan Morian on the tale of sensitive, ethical zombie Poke in a world that is very much the opposite. Usually, mindless cannon fodder, Camp and Morian humanize the living dead while not giving them the Warm Bodies relationship and much of this issue is dedicated to world-building and a worm’s eye view of zombie society, how their names are constructed, and different cliques and relationships. Fititng the tone of the story, Morian and colorist Matt Hollingsworth’s visuals are gruesome, yet lovable like its protagonist Poke, who is easy to latch onto in a very deep, tortured everyzombie way. Overall: 8.5 Verdict: Buy

The Crown: A Tale of Hell #1 (Dark Horse) – Brother writers Mike and Todd Mignola and artist Warwick Johnson-Cadwell craft a tale of sibling rivalry and literally hellish political wrangling centuries before Hellboy’s birth. It’s a rare peek at the twisted destiny Hellboy was born into and rejected to become a hero. I love how Johnson-Cadwell draws his figures like chess pieces on a board while still imbuing them with a physicality that drives home their arguments about who is worthy to wear the titular crown. However, The Crown #1 isn’t all bitching and moaning, but has some juicy twists towards the end. Let’s say Hellboy had more siblings than two. Overall: 8.1 Verdict: Buy

Star Wars: Jar Jar #1 (Marvel) – Jar Jar Binks (and Beq) actor Ahmed Best, Marc Guggenheim and artists Kieran McKeown, Laura Braga, and Mike Atiyeh complete the Jar Jar redemption in this engaging and socially relevant one-shot. Best and Guggenheim use the metaphor of the mining planet Urubai and the caste of the Unseen to draw attention to the plight of exploited workers like cobalt miners in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It’s all filtered through a pulpy lens, but it’s in the same vein as the Andor television show or the Rebel Alliance being a stand-in for South Vietnam’s National Liberation Front. There’s definitely some silly moments, and Ahmed Best and Marc Guggenheim have Jar Jar’s speaking patterns down to a tee, but it’s offset by showcasing him as a complex figure whose innocence was preyed upon by powerful interests. It’s cool to see Jar Jar, Beq, and Mira Bridger push back against the moment in Episode II that made Jar Jar such a despised character. Also, a cameo from badass bounty hunter Aura Sing doesn’t hurt either. Even if your opinions about Jar Jar Binks have stayed static since 1999, this is the comic to change your mind. Overall: 9.7 Verdict: Buy

Abrams ComicArts Announces its Fall 2026 Graphic Novels Season

Marvel Dimensions

Abrams ComicArts has announced its Fall 2026 season of graphic novels. The season brings together political history, civil rights nonfiction, pop culture, classic adaptations, literary fiction, and manga, reflecting the full scope of the publisher’s comics program and the range of what the medium can do.

Among the season’s most timely books is The Dissidents, a new graphic novel by Derf Backderf. Set in the United States during World War I, the book follows cartoonists, journalists, and activists targeted by the federal government under the Espionage Act as dissent is criminalized and fear is used as a political weapon. As the story unfolds, the parallels to the present are stark. Surveillance, propaganda, attacks on the press, and the erosion of civil liberties feel uncomfortably familiar, making The Dissidents a reminder that the fight over free expression in America is not new and far from settled.

That same sense of urgency carries through Framing Emmett Till: Exposing Dark Fear, a nonfiction graphic novel written by Christopher Benson and illustrated by Eric Battle. Examining the murder of Emmett Till through the legacy of his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, the book focuses on the power of images, testimony, and public memory. Rather than functioning only as history, the book speaks directly to the present moment, as debates over racial violence, historical truth, and whose stories are allowed to be told continue to shape public life.

Leading the season is Marvel Dimensions, an original graphic novel by Alex Ross and the most ambitious and intricate comic he has ever made. Built around the physical design of the book itself, the story moves across multiple realities and reframes familiar Marvel characters in surprising ways. Fully painted by Ross, the graphic novel uses scale, perspective, and structure as narrative tools, creating an experience that is inseparable from its form.

A cornerstone of Abrams ComicArts are exceptional literary adaptation graphic novels. Don Quixote: A Graphic Novel Adaptation, adapted by Paul and Gaëtan Brizzi, brings Miguel de Cervantes’ novel into graphic novel form while preserving both the comedy and the melancholy that have made the story endure. The Brizzi brothers’ artwork gives the novel a fresh visual life without losing the spirit that has carried it across centuries.

Literary graphic novels are another cornerstone of the Fall 2026 season. Diana, a new graphic novel by Nate Powell, is a punk rock period piece set in the 1990s. Centered on queer community, music, and intimacy, the book follows a young woman searching for love and belonging in a world shaped by misfits and DIY culture. Diana shares a universe with Powell’s earlier books Come Again and Fall Through, while standing firmly on its own.

The season also turns to the enduring importance of the daily comic strip with MUTTS: Sunday Funnies Volumes Volumes 1 and 2, by Patrick McDonnell. For more than three decades, McDonnell has followed the lives of Mooch the cat, Earl the dog, and their world to explore kindness, responsibility, and how people treat one another and the animals in their care.

As Dune returns to the screen, Dune Messiah Book 1: A Graphic Novel Adaptation arrives at exactly the right moment. With a new Dune feature film releasing this year and HBO’s Dune: Prophecy continuing on television, the world of Arrakis is once again everywhere. This comic gives readers a way to stay inside that world while the film and series are playing out.

Alongside the Abrams ComicArts releases, the Fall 2026 season features a major slate of manga through the Kana imprint. Before Dawn and the End of the World, a manga anthology by Inio Asano, brings together previously untranslated short comics spanning the early and middle years of his career. Collected in a single volume, the book offers readers a rare look at Asano’s range beyond his longer series.

The manga lineup continues with Jagaaan Volume 1, a manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro with art by Kensuke Nishida. Graphic, unsettling, and psychologically charged, the book follows a disaffected police officer whose violent fantasies collide with a sudden outbreak of monstrous transformations across the city. The release kicks off a fourteen-volume series long requested by English-language readers.
