The Crow is back in 2014 with The Crow: Pestilence

The spirits of vengeance are coming back with brutal force in The Crow: Pestilence, a new miniseries coming from IDW in early 2014. This series marks the comic-book debut of prose author Frank Bill, who first debuted on the scene with the acclaimed and brutally poetic short-story collection, Crimes in Southern Indiana. Bill followed that book with his even more raw debut novel, Donnybrook. On Pestilence, Bill, a longtime Crow fan, will be joined by artist Drew Moss, with Crow creator and vocal Bill fan James O’Barr supplying covers for the series.

Debuting in the spring of 2014, The Crow: Pestilence transplants the spirit of vengeance to the southwest, introducing a brand-new cast of characters and exploring the grim underbelly of greed and betrayal in the deadly town of Juarez, Mexico.

Created by James O’Barr in 1989, The Crow flew to success in comics and on film. After a number of successful books and films spiraling out of the original graphic novel, The Crow landed at IDW in 2012 and has since appeared in three unique miniseries, two by O’Barr himself: Skinning The Wolves and Curare.

Edward R. Pressman, producer of the 1994 smash hit film The Crow, together with Relativity and Dimension Films, is currently in production on a reinvention of the original film, which explores its own unique storyline separate from the comic book. F. Javier Gutierrez will direct from a screenplay by Cliff Dorfman with Luke Evans starring as ‘Eric Draven’. Pressman licensed the comic book rights to IDW. The deal was brokered by Dan Kletzky of Entertainment Licensing Associates.

NYCC 2013: Bill Willingham Presents Legenderry: A Steampunk Adventure

Dynamite has announced Legenderry: A Steampunk Adventure, a seven-issue monthly crossover event featuring classic characters of comics and film as reimagined by bestselling writer Bill Willingham.  Featuring interior artwork by Sergio Fernandez Davila, Legenderry launches in January featuring covers by celebrated steampunk artist Joe Benitez.

Legenderry: A Steampunk Adventure is, as Bill Willingham describes it, “a world in which the great heroes of our stories live in the flesh.”  The story begins in a massive Victorian-style metropolis, a city protected by Vampirella, the Green Hornet, and Kato.  After a scarlet-clad woman of mystery rushes into a bar pursued by assassins, the resulting chaos spreads to other reimagined landscapes ripped from classic comic books, literature, and television, including the wild jungles of The Phantom, Flash Gordon’s futuristic haven of Landing, aerial combat alongside Captain Victory, and more.  The action eventually leads to the Monstrous Lands, an unruly territory both lawless and sinister.

An event series four years in the making, Legenderry proves the old adage that “good things come to those who wait.”  Willingham mined the rich Dynamite Universe for the perfect characters to populate the vast, reimagined landscape of Legenderry.  In recent months, Willingham has personally overseen the visual development of the series, courtesy of designs by artist Johnny D., whose artwork has graced numerous Dynamite covers and most recently, the complete Vampirella Strikes comic book series.  “It was an honor to take some truly timeless characters and make them fit into the steampunk world,” says Johnny D.  “They all have a great unique base to go off, so it has been a lot of fun working on the designs.  I’ve worked with many of these characters before and look forward to the series.”

The cast of Legenderry characters changes each issue, as Willingham and Davila steer the action from one dazzling location to the next.  Featured characters include Steve Austin of The Six Million Dollar Man, the classic pulp duo of Green Hornet and Kato, legendary masked adventurer Zorro, the Dynamite mainstay Vampirella, the beloved superheroes Silver Star and Captain Victory created by Jack Kirby, Flash Gordon and The Phantom from King Features Syndicate, and finally, the swords-and-sorcery icon Red Sonja.

Legenderry: A Steampunk Adventure will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ November Previews catalog, the premiere source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release beginning in January 2014. and will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.

NYCC 2013: The Six Million Dollar Man Season 6 by Dynamite

Dynamite and NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products are proud to announce that the beloved television action hero Colonel Steve Austin will celebrate his 40th Anniversary by returning to comics in the upcoming Six Million Dollar Man: Season 6 series, set immediately following the classic television continuity.  Featuring the writing talent of award-winning author James Kuhoric and artwork by Juan Antonio Ramirez, the upcoming Six Million Dollar Man: Season 6 comic series will launch with covers by legendary painter Alex Ross.

A direct follow-up to the classic television series, the Season 6 series pits Steve Austin and his trusted handler Oscar Goldman against a rogue faction of the OSI.  A new type of infiltration agent is the key to the treacherous power play – one that is robotic and completely obedient to the traitors.  Can a soulless machine make the world’s first Bionic Man obsolete?  Six Million Dollar Man: Season 6 will hold special appeal for longtime fans, as the infamous villain Maskatron debuts for the first time within story continuity with a violent and terrifying purpose.  Furthermore, Austin’s role as a NASA pilot will return to prominence, as conspiracies involving extraterrestrial technology and close encounters take root at the OSI.

The Six Million Dollar Man: Season 6 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ December 2013 Previews catalog, the premiere source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release beginning in February 2014 it’ll be available through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, iVerse, and Dark Horse Digital.
