NYCC 2023: BlackBox Comics heads to the convention with two new titles and more!

After celebrating their sixth anniversary earlier this year, BlackBox Comics are hurtling into their seventh year with an exciting range of hot new titles and fresh announcements to coincide with their upcoming appearance at Booth #3764 for New York Comic Con from October 12-15th, 2023.

Leading the charge, the publisher is pleased to confirm that their growing range of titles are making the leap to the digital GlobalComix platform. This new avenue launches with nine complete BlackBox series, including recent hits such as Ninja Kaidan, Doctor Wilder, and Dream Master.

And their commitment to print remains strong. Since bursting onto the comics scene in 2017 with I.T., The Secret World of Modern Banking, BlackBox have continued to deliver exciting new creators and content on a monthly basis – and they’re ramping things up with their two latest releases, Empath and Dead Detective, which are currently solicited through the Diamond PREVIEWS catalogue.

Written by Brian Hawkins, with art by Debora Carita, Empath tells the story of Jace Emery, the estranged son of a wealthy family who finds himself in a chaotic city filled with vagabonds and wayward individuals. But as much as his family is in his past, his reasons for leaving them continue to drive his everyday choices, fueling both his desire to help others and his uncanny empathic ability to change things for the better. Issue #1 arrives in stores October 25th and there’s still time for retailers to up their initial orders.

Coming hot on its heels in November is Dead Detective #1, which traces the harrowing journey of Detective Danto and his partner Jim Falls. Jim discovers a portal to the afterlife 15 years after his partner, Rex’s death. The pair find themselves reunited in the underworld, where they must solve the mystery of a demonic cult and save their city from dark forces. Writer Bob Heyoka, and artist Fabio Lima Jansen, bring their A-game to this taut supernatural thriller.

If that wasn’t enough, the New York based publisher is bringing their wares to New York Comic Con, where they’ll be selling a host of special editions, back issues and variant covers that are no longer available at retail. Fans can find them at Booth #3764, and stay tuned for further announcements coming out of the show, which takes place at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center from October 12-15th.
