Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was the champion of the weekend with an impressive $185 million opening. That puts the film already third in the year for domestic grosses. Internationally, the film has also grossed $265 million delivering $450 million already!

The first film earned $232.6 million domestically and $445.2 million internationally for a worldwide gross of $677.8 million 2016. It opened with $85.1 million.

The film has had mixed reviews from audiences so it should be very interesting to see what legs this one has.

In second place was The Bad Guys which earned $9.8 million, a 39.8% drop from the previous week. Domestically, the film has grossed $57.6 million after two weeks. Over the past week the film earned about $16.3 million internationally to lift that to $90.6 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $148.1 million.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 came in third place with an estimated $6.2 million to lift its domestic gross to $169.9 million. Over the week, it earned $16.9 million to bring its international earnings to $179.5 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $349.4 million blowing away the original’s $319.7 million and guaranteeing more sequels to come.

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore continues to slide seeing another 52.5% drop and earning a little under $4 million. That brings its domestic total to $86 million. It’s now a question if the film will cross $100 million domestically. Internationally, the film has had more luck earning another $27.7 million over the week to bring that to $277.7 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $363.7 million.

Rounding out the top five was Everything Everywhere All at Once which earned another $3.3 million to bring its domestic total to $41.6 million. Over the week, it earned around $1.2 million to bring its international total to $3.9 million. Worldwide, it has grossed $45.4 million.

In comic film news…

Morbius looks like its domestic run might already be over. It earned just $400,00 over the week to bring its domestic gross to $71.9 million. Internationally, the film looks like it remained steady with $90 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $161.9 million.

The Batman earned about $150,000 over the week to bring that film’s domestic total to $369.1 million. Over the week, the movie earned about $4 million internationally to bring that total to $395.5 million. The film currently stands at $764.6 million. It’ll be interesting to see how much more it can earn with its streaming release though international grosses are really driving things.

Initial numbers have 41 films earning $222,249,164 from 29,494 theaters. That’s a massive increase from last weekend’s 44 films which earned $66,693,399 from 34,934 theaters theaters. The average earning was $7,535.40 this past weekend, an increase from the previous weekend’s $1,909.13.
