Review: Vampblade #10

vampblade_issuenumber10_covera_solicitKatie continues to “cosplay” her costume while making tiny pieces out of the hidden other-dimensional intergalactic parasites infesting Detroit. It doesn’t take the world’s greatest detective to see caped crusading never looked so… bootylicious!

Vampblade #10 may take the crown of fourth wall breaks for this series and that’s saying something. It’s almost like writer Jason Martin is taking it all as a challenge to one-up himself. Katie explores the origins of the original Vampblade comics, yet it flashes forward some, where Katie gets a new costume and a whole bunch of new information. The series continues to mix humor and action while having fun with the comic medium and history as a whole.

I will admit I do like the Batwoman-like costume with the slight Spawn mixture. Even the slight shift in art styles from artist Winston Young after the big fourth wall break works well. That slight shift gives the series a change in atmosphere.

And through everything, this series never loses its sense of humor.
