The Flash Finds Its Director in Dope’s Rick Famuyiwa
Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. have found their director for The Flash. Rick Famuyiwa will direct the film which stars Ezra Miller and is set to be released March 16, 2018.
Famuyiwa broke out with 2015’s Dope, which he both wrote and directed. He also has tons of buzz with talks of awards for the HBO TV movie Confirmation which followed the Clarence Thomas Supreme Court nomination and Anita Hill.
The Flash script is by Seth Grahame-Smith who was originally supposed to direct, but left the project over “creative differences.” Grahame-Smith’s script is based on a treatment by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the duo behind The Lego Movie.
Ezra Miller debuted as The Flash in this year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Famuyiwa’s hiring also continues Warner Bros. hiring of a diverse group of directors to helm their comic adaptations. Famuyiwa is African-American, while Wonder Woman features a female director in Patty Jenkins, and Aquaman is being helmed by James Wan, an Australian of Malaysian Chinese descent.
