Star Wars Continues to Hold on to First. Revenant Comes on Strong

star-wars-force-awakens-official-posterStar Wars: The Force Awakens continued to hold first place, fighting off The Revenant which beat expectations. Star Wars added $41.63 million to its total while The Revenant earned $38 million after expanding its theater count.

That’s the fourth week in first place for Star Wars. It’s the top domestic earner and first film to cross the $800 million mark domestically. It now stands $812 million. The film also debuted in China earning $53 million which is reported as the largest Saturday/Sunday opening, but it’s also the only film to have opened on a Saturday. It also has the biggest Saturday of all time. The film currently sits at $1.733 billion. It needs another $400 million to move in to second and about $1 billion to move in to first.

For other movies, Daddy’s Home was third with $15 million, The Forest debuted in fourth with $13.1 million and Sisters was fifth at $7.2 million.
