The Goldbergs and Dark Horse, 1980 What!?

If you watch ABC’s The Goldbergs, hopefully you’re as entertained by not just the family but the nostalgia from living in the 1980s.

Tonight’s Halloween episode had Beverly Goldberg justifying her Predator costume to go along her son’s Alien costume by citing Dark Horse Presents #36. The comic is the birthplace of Alien vs Predator, the classic franchise from Dark Horse Comics.

In a voice over it’s stated the episode takes place in October 1980 something. The problem? Dark Horse Presents #36 didn’t come out until January 1990. The Dark Horse website lists its publication date as February 1, 1990. The comic didn’t even exist when the episode supposedly took place.

Details people!

Congrats Dark Horse on the exposure!

And despite the slip, this is a show folks should be watching.

  • This happens a LOT on this series. Anachronisms in nearly every episode. BUT, by saying “1980-something” the narrator establishems himself as an “unreliable Narrator” and allows for wiggle room in the historical accuracy.

    Plus, it’s a sitcom.
