Review: Marvel Super Hero Spectacular #1

Marvel Super Hero Spectacular #1A SUPER HERO EXTRAVAGANZA THE LIKES OF WHICH THE WORLD HAS NEVER SEEN! Get a front row seat to the hottest ticket in town as we unveil Saturnalia and the Interstellar Circus Spectacular! But there’s more to these three rings than meets the EYE! Featuring a wild array of new characters and some of Marvel’s all-time most popular super heroes including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Spider-Man!

This new comic has an audience in mind, kids who enjoy the Marvel cartoons. The issue blends the two series as they battle against an intergalactic evil circus, and even includes lessons at the end, and puzzles for kids to do throughout. I know I’m not the audience, but even with that, the comic wasn’t too bad. Cheesy, in a kids sort of way, but it’s entertaining and kept me entertained in the time I took to read it. It’s not a comic I would have picked up on my own, but was entertaining having been put in front of me by Marvel to review it.

The story by Karl Kesel and art by David Baldeon is good, carrying over the vibe and tone of the cartoons in both story, dialogue, and look of the comic. It’s also solid in that it’s a self-contained story so you can pick just this up and someone can see if they like comics.

Clearly geared towards kids, the comic is perfect for those who enjoy the Avengers Assemble or Guardians of the Galaxy cartoons. I’m definitely not the audience for the comic, so while my scores are not bad, it’s an absolute buy for kids.
