Gunn(ing) for Thunderbolts on the Big Screen
While Sony is working on an all villains movie featuring Spider-man’s rogue gallery in the upcoming Sinister Six, director James Gunn would like to have his own version with some Marvel’s other villains if he got his way.
In an interview with Screenrant, Gunn was asked about Thunderbolts, and here’s his answer.
“Thunderbolts? I will tell you, one time I was saying to Kevin [Feige], we were sitting on set together on one of the days he visited and I said, ‘You know, I really want to make Thunderbolts,’ and he said, ‘James, if Guardians does well you’ll be able to do whatever you want so we’ll see what happens.”
The Thunderbolts have been a mainstay in Marvel for some time now with various incarnations over the years. They first formed during Marvel’s “Heroes Reborn” era and were actually a group of villains posing as heroes. The group was originally founded by Baron Zemo with a plan to earn the world’s trust, then go from there with the evil stuff. From there the team has also been a work-release program run by S.H.I.E.L.D., taking villains and allowing them to get reduced sentences for good behavior for partaking in missions. Currently the team is a special-ops team that features Deadpool, Punisher, Red Hulk, Elektra and others.
With Guardians of the Galaxy setting records, maybe Gunn will get his wish.
The question is now, which version do you want to see on the screen and who would you want on the team? Sound off below with your thoughts.
