Steven Spielberg is Diving into DC Comics’ Blackhawk

It was announced today that the classic DC property Blackhawk will be coming to the movie screen courtesy of Steven Spielberg, Amblin Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Pictures. Spielberg is hoping to direct.

The screenplay is being written by David Koepp and Spielberg will produce the film with Kristie Macosko Krieger. Sue Kroll will executive produce.

Blackhawk is a wartime adventure comic series focused on Blackhawk who commanded a squadron of ace pilots known as the Blackhawks or Blackhawk Squadron. There’s been numerous different versions of the comic with the squad battling everyone from Nazis to more fantastical villains.

The decisions seems to be a 180 from Spielberg who in 2015 was negative towards comic book films saying there was too many and that they would go away as a genre like Westerns. He felt they had a “finite time in popular culture.” I guess he’s changed his mind.
