Dark Horse Will Publish American Gods Comics in the UK

Dark Horse Comics will be publishing the highly anticipated adaptation of American Gods as periodical comic books in England. The adaptation of the Hugo and Nebula Award–winning novel by Neil Gaiman will be adapted and co-written by P. Craig Russell—who previously adapted Gaiman’s bestselling novels Coraline and The Graveyard Book—and illustrated by acclaimed artist Scott Hampton. Dark Horse will adapt American Gods into twenty-seven single issues with three story arcs: Shadows, My Ainsel, and The Moment of the Storm. The first issue of American Gods: Shadows goes on sale March 15, 2017, ahead of Starz’ premiere of an American Gods TV show, adapted by Bryan Fuller.

The American Gods comic books will feature guest interior art by Walt Simonson, Mark Buckingham, Colleen Doran, P. Craig Russell, and more. The series features covers by some of the industry’s most acclaimed artists: Glenn Fabry and Adam Brown, and variant covers by David Mack. Acclaimed artist Dave McKean, who provided covers on Gaiman’s seminal Sandman for DC Comics, has also created a variant cover for the first issue.

Dark Horse is Adapting American Gods into Comics and Graphic Novels

Dark Horse has announced the adaptation of American Gods into comic book form. Originally published in 2001 by William Morrow and Headline, American Gods is a Hugo and Nebula Award–winning novel by Neil Gaiman. This is the latest Gaiman adaptation from Dark Horse, preceded by graphic novel adaptations of How to Talk to Girls at Parties, Troll Bridge, Forbidden Brides, and many more. Starz will also premiere an American Gods TV show in spring 2017, adapted by Bryan Fuller.

Dark Horse tapped P. Craig Russell —who, having worked on Coraline and The Graveyard Book, is no stranger to adapting Neil Gaiman’s work— to adapt and co-write the comic series, while Scott Hampton lends his illustrative skills to the complex world Gaiman created. Glenn Fabry and Adam Brown create the hauntingly beautiful cover art. David Mack and Dave McKean provide variant covers for the first issue. The American Gods comic series will feature guest interior art by Walt Simonson, Mark Buckingham, Colleen Doran, P. Craig Russell, and more.

American Gods: Shadows #1 finds Shadow Moon released from jail only to discover his wife has died. Broken and uncertain about his future, Shadow Moon meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, who employs him to serve as his bodyguard. This fateful decision thrusts Shadow into a deadly supernatural world where ghosts of the past come back from the dead, and a brewing war between old and new gods hits a boiling point.

Steve Pugh Joins Mark Russell on The Flintstones

Writer Mark Russell and artist Steve Pugh will bring readers their version of Fred, Wilma, Barney, Betty, Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm in the debut issue of The Flintstones, on sale July 6.

In this 40-page extra-sized premiere issue, fans will be introduced to the town of Bedrock, where Paleolithic humans dine on artisanal prepared mammoth after shopping at the Neandertall & Big Men’s Clothing stores, get the latest news via cave painting, and folks drive foot-powered cars. Join Fred and Barney as Mr. Slate sends them on a mission to show some Neanderthals a night on the town in hopes of luring them into this new system of “working for a living” – in his quarry, of course! Find out what happens to Fred and the gang when they finally get to learn how Bedrock’s “one percent” lives in this satirical take on life in the world’s first civilization this summer!

Marvel/FDNY Helmet Auction Goes Online

The FDNY – long celebrated as New York City’s bravest – is being supported by some of the world’s greatest superheroes in honor of the Department’s 150th anniversary and New York Comic Con with an exclusive line of superhero inspired FDNY helmet designs. Featuring Spider-Man, The Hulk, Captain America, Black Widow and others, the helmets have been created for a charity auction that will raise money for the FDNY Foundation. The helmets were designed by the industry’s leading comic book artists including Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer, Joe Quesada, along with Damion Scott, Kaare Andrews, Walt Simonson and others who used their skills to render awe-inspiring illustrations of these recognizable heroes.

The helmets draw inspiration from some of Marvel’s greatest heroes. Quesada, a longtime FDNY supporter and the creative force behind “Heroes” a historic tribute book featuring Marvel superheroes in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy, created a Captain America inspired helmet featuring his iconic shield. Damion Scott introduces the world famous web-slinger – Spider-Man – into a vibrant helmet design full of the character’s iconic blue and red. Other artists contributing to the program include Phil Jimenez, Phil Noto, and Joe Rivera.

The majority of the helmets were auctioned off at charity event on October 10, but those helmets not auctioned off at the event will be available for auction at the ReedPOP Supply Co eBay account from October 19-23. All money raised will go to benefit the FDNY Foundation, the official non-profit organization of the New York City Fire Department.

Archie Kills Archie Andrews in July

Archie Comics has announced they are killing Archie Andrews to conclude the Life With Archie comic series.

The iconic comic book character, beloved by millions around the globe for over 70 years, will sacrifice himself heroically while saving the life of a friend in the pages of July’s Life With Archie #36, the final issue in the flash-forward series, which spotlights Archie’s adventures after high school and college.

 

The story will be available in multiple formats, including an extra-large magazine-size Life With Archie #36, two comic-sized issues—Life With Archie #36 and #37—and a trade paperback collecting the entire story, written by regular Life With Archie writer Paul Kupperberg, with art by Pat & Tim Kennedy and Fernando Ruiz.

While Life With Archie #36 shows readers Archie’s final moments, #37 leaps a year into the future, showcasing how the remaining members of the Riverdale gang—including Jughead, Betty & Veronica and Reggie—have honored the legacy of their dear friend.
