The Russian Akula-class submarine’s orders were simple: escort the cargo ship Turgenev across the Atlantic and safely deliver her to Cuba’s shores. But someone aboard has a competing mission–sabotage. Now a fiery explosion has punched through its titanium hull, turning the once-prized vessel of the Russian fleet into a watery tomb.

100 ft down and sinking fast, two lone survivors remain, a Russian sailor and an American spy, the final combatants in a warzone only four hundred feet long and forty feet wide. Locked in heated battle, and buried under the weight of an entire ocean, each man is determined to kill the other before time runs out.

But the fight to survive only starts on the ocean floor as these two men are pushed to their limits and beyond in a fight against each other, the deadliest environment on Earth, and their own military forces to complete their missions and make it out alive as the world hangs in the balance.

Preview: Who Withstood the Cataclysm? Your First Look at Survive #1!

This March, the Ultimate Universe attempts to rebuild from total devastation at the hands of Galactus. But with every ending there comes a new beginning – and the next stage of the Ultimate Universe starts here!  Today, Marvel has released a first look at Survive #1 from the team of Brian Michael Bendis and Joe Quinones!

Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds descended upon the Ultimate Universe with an insatiable hunger. Though he was defeated by the bravery of a small band of heroes – the cost was devastatingly high. New York City lays a smoldering ruin, and not everyone made it back alive. Many of the Ultimates are dead – and the remaining heroes are all beaten, broken, and emotionally drained.

In an interview with Marvel.com Brian Michael Bendis said:

You’ve got all these characters [that] have been through hell together and now they’re coming out the other side and they’re kind of committed to each other, now that Captain America’s gone and some other characters aren’t making it back.

A lot of these characters are very young, and with that comes a lot of emotion, a lot of drama, a lot of people making some disastrous mistakes both in their professional and in their personal lives; and all of that will be on display right away.
