Youngblood #1 Reveals its Retailer Exclusive Covergeddon

This November comic shop retailers are all-in on Rob Liefeld‘s highly anticipated return to his iconic Youngblood series. Youngblood (2025) #1 has stacked the deck with a whopping 27 retailer exclusive covers and Image Comics is ready to deal some damage.

The original Youngblood #1 was the opening salvo in the Image Revolution and remains one of the bestselling independent comics of all time with sales over one million copies. With Liefeld finally back at the helm of his signature creation, Youngblood is in full power mode once again.

The Direct Market will be battle ready for the Liefeld Legion onslaught. Comic shop retailers suiting up with their very own exclusive Youngblood (2025) #1 covers are:

SDCC 2025: Rob Liefeld Returns with Exclusive: Giant-Size Youngblood #1 Signings and Panel

Legendary comic book creator Rob Liefeld is set to make a major splash at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 with the debut of an all-new comic: Giant-Size Youngblood #1. A Comic-Con exclusive, the 29-page special issue will be available in four limited-edition covers—each capped at just 100 copies—and will be distributed exclusively during Liefeld’s signings at Booth #5568.

First launched in 1992, Youngblood was the flagship title that helped launch Image Comics, redefining the comics industry by giving creators control over their own characters. Youngblood #1 was one of the highest-selling independent comics of all time and marked the beginning of a new era of creator-owned superheroes.

Now, over 30 years later, Liefeld revisits the groundbreaking team with a bold new story that mixes nostalgia, innovation, and pure energy.

Like the classic it pays tribute to, Giant-Size Youngblood unfolds on a mysterious island and brings together a mix of legacy heroes and all-new characters. This San Diego Comic-Con exclusive edition features four unique covers, each limited to 100 copies. A short pre-order window sold out quickly, but a limited number of copies will be available at the convention.

In addition to the launch, Liefeld will headline a special Comic-Con panel:

Rob Liefeld is returning to Youngblood

After a lot of drama, Rob Liefeld will write and illustrate a Youngblood title being published by Image Comics. The comic will be released in 2025.

It’s the first time in seven years that Liefeld has worked on the property. He’s working with Scott Mitchell Rosenberg, who oversees the property for rights holder, Rip Media Inc. Rosenberg first teamed with Liefeld during the formation of Image Comics in April 1992. Rosenberg is CEO of Platinum Studios Inc., which manages Youngblood for the property’s owner, Rip Media Inc. 

Youngblood was one of the launch titles from Image Comics with the first issue selling over 1 million copies. The original Youngblood miniseries sold over 25 million copies worldwide, and its publication history spans over 100 issues with featured contributions throughout its run from celebrated top comic talents such as Robert Kirkman, Alan Moore, and Mark Millar. 

Image will also publish Youngblood Vault Edition, which features high-res scans of the art from the first Youngblood series. It’ll be published as a deluxe oversized hardcover.

Youngblood #1 will also get released as a facsimile edition timed for its 33rd anniversary in April 2025.

The original series was plagued by delays after its debut with long gaps in-between issues. It eventually spun out various series written by other writers and numerous comics that never materialized.

The news is surprising as the ownership of rights have been in dispute. It was last reported that Andrew Rev of Terrific Productions held the rights but that was about 5 years ago.
