It’s been three years since the events of Dark Knight III: The Master Race. Lara has spent the time learning to be more human, and Carrie Kelley has been growing into her new role as Batwoman. But a terrifying evil has returned to Gotham City, and Lara and Carrie must team up to stop this growing threat-and they have a secret weapon. Young Jonathan Kent, “the golden child,” has a power inside of him unlike anything the world has ever seen, and it’s about to be unleashed…

Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child is Frank Miller’s triumphant return to the world of the Dark Knight and joining him is the superstar artist Rafael Grampá, the mastermind behind the groundbreaking Mesmo Delivery. Following work in advertising and film, this incredible collaboration marks Grampá’s first comics work in six years, bringing his extraordinary detail and storytelling to the Dark Knight saga, resulting in a Dark Knight story like nothing you’ve ever seen before.

Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child Promo Teases Trump

DC has released a new teaser image for this week’s Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child #1. The image features the Joker in front of posters featuring Donald Trump and the word “Trust” in the style of the iconic Barak Obama poster by Shepard Fairey.

Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child #1 is by Frank Miller, Rafael Grampá, and Jordie Bellaire and a follow up to Miller’s series of takes on Batman. It comes to shops December 11, 2019.

DC Reportedly Pulls Batman Image Over Chinese Backlash

DC Comics has been teasing the upcoming The Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child the latest chapter in Frank Miller‘s take on Batman. One image has apparently caused some issues.

Artwork by Rafael Grampá features Carrie Kelly as Batwoman throwing a Molotov cocktail with the text “The Future is Young.”

That imagery was seen as support to the Hong Kong protestors by some. Those angry took to the Chinese social media Weibo to voice their displeasure.

DC has deleted their posts featuring the image. This is the latest example of the “China” problem where major corporations bend to the will of the authoritarian nation. The NBA, Marvel Studios, and more have had to censure staff who have spoken out about in support of Hong Kong or in the case of Marvel Studios, change characters and add scenes.

Dark Knight III: Master Race Gets a Sequel from Frank Miller, Rafael Grampá, and Jordie Bellaire

Bestselling writer and comic book icon Frank Miller will add yet another incredible chapter to his Dark Knight legacy on December 11th, as DC Comics has announced plans to publish a sequel to the acclaimed Dark Knight III: Master Race.

Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child is a 48-page prestige format one-shot featuring art and cover by Rafael Grampá with color by Jordie Bellaire. The story takes place three years after the events of Master Race, where Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Carrie Kelley, and Lara Kent overcame the renegade priest Quar and his cult of Kandorian fanatics in their bid to convert humanity into worshipping them as gods. During this interim, Lara has spent time learning about what it means to be human, while Carrie has grown into her role as Gotham City’s new protector, Batwoman.

When a terrifying evil returns to Gotham City, Lara and Carrie team up to take on this new threat, but this time with a secret weapon—Jonathan Kent. Known as the “Golden Child,” Jonathan possesses power unlike anything the world has ever seen and could be all that stands in the way of the destruction of Gotham City, as well as the whole planet.

Grampá was handpicked by Miller for this return to the world of the Dark Knight. The mastermind behind the groundbreaking Mesmo Delivery, this incredible collaboration marks Grampá’s first comics work in six years, bringing his extraordinary detail and storytelling skills to a story that only Frank Miller could tell.

In addition to the main and variant covers by Grampá, the book will also include a series of open-to-buy variant covers by artists Paul Pope, Joëlle Jones, and Andy Kubert, in addition to Frank Miller himself. The 48-page prestige format book will carry DC’s Black Label content descriptor (for mature readers) and will retail for $5.99.
