The Godfather Comes to Tabletop Games Courtesy of IDW and Paramount

The GodfatherToday, IDW announced it would release a line of The Godfather tabletop games ranging from quick-to-play card and dice games to big box strategic board games. Paramount Pictures’ The Godfather is widely recognized among the most revered films of all-time.

The Godfather game line will start with a card game due out this summer, and continue to branch out from there. The games will range in length and complexity, and take place in a variety of locations and timelines spanning the trilogy of films. Gamers can look forward to rising to power and doing everything they can to stay on top in a cutthroat world. These games will truly be an offer The Godfather fans can’t refuse.

The Godfather Card Game will hit stores August 2015.

Radical’s Hercules: The Thracian Wars Coming to the Big Screen

Radical Studios announced today their original graphic novel Hercules: The Thracian Wars will be adapted as a motion picture to be co-produced by MGM Studios and Paramount Pictures. The graphic novel written by Steve Moore is an action-filled story based on the popular Ancient Greek mythology of Hercules. The film stars Dwayne Johnson and is directed by Brett Ratner. Hercules will be produced by Radical President Barry Levine, Beau Flynn and Brett Ratner. Peter Berg, Sarah Aubrey and Radical EVP Jesse Berger will executive produce. The screenplay was adapted by Ryan Condal with script revisions by Evan Spiliotopoulos. Production is scheduled to start in early 2013.

Disney Buy Back Marvel Movies From Paramount For $115,000,000

BURBANK, Calif. – October 18, 2010 – The Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios announced they have reached an agreement under which Paramount will transfer its worldwide marketing and distribution rights to Disney for Marvel Studios’ The Avengers and Iron Man 3. Paramount will remain the worldwide distributor of the upcoming films, Thor and Captain America, as well as the previously released Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

Under terms of the new deal, Disney will pay Paramount $115 million for the transfer of the distribution rights to Iron Man 3 and The Avengers to be paid on the theatrical release dates.  These monies will serve as a minimum guarantee against the distribution fees.

“In completing this agreement, Disney will now assume worldwide marketing and distribution of The Avengers and Iron Man 3 and leverage these two highly-anticipated films across the multiple global platforms of The Walt Disney Company,” said Rich Ross, Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios. “We appreciate the tremendous momentum that Paramount established with these iconic Marvel characters and look forward to propelling the brand even further in the coming years.”

“Five years ago, when Paramount and Marvel made our initial deal, both our businesses were in very different places,” said Brad Grey, Chairman & CEO of Paramount Pictures. “We are grateful for the partnership we have had with the terrific Marvel team over these years and proud of the work we have done together. Today, this new agreement is the right deal for Paramount, for Marvel and for Disney. We look forward to working together on Thor and Captain America, and we wish Disney and Marvel the utmost success, in what we know will be a very productive and wide-ranging partnership.”

“Paramount has been a wonderful partner in helping Marvel Studios bring our characters to the big screen,” said Alan Fine, Office of the President, Marvel Worldwide, Inc.  ”This agreement makes sense now that Marvel is part of The Walt Disney Company.”

Paramount will release Marvel Entertainment’s Thor and Captain America worldwide beginning on May 6 and July 22 of 2011, respectively. The Avengers will be licensed to Epix under Paramount’s existing pay television arrangement.

Hugo Weaving Confirmed as the Red Skull

The Marvel movie news blog confirmed today that Hugo Weaving will be donning the red mask to play the villain The Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger opposite Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell.  The movie will be directed by Joe Johnston and was penned by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely.  In the early comics, Johann Schmidt was drafted into loyal service of The Third Reich and renamed “The Red Skull.”  The character will be updated for the feature adaptation.

Captain America: The First Avenger will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America.

Weaving was last seen in The Wolfman and his voice is very recognizable as Megatron from Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as well as Noah the Elder from Happy Feet.  His other film credits include starring in V For Vendetta, The Matrix franchise and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The film will be released in the U.S. on July 22, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Hayley Atwell Cast As Peggy Carter

Marvel announced actress Hayley Atwell will be playing Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger opposite Chris Evans who will be donning the shield as Captain America.

Joe Johnston is directing the film that was penned by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.  Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige will produce “Captain America: The First Avenger”.  Alan Fine, Stan Lee, David Maisel and Louis D’Esposito will executive produce.  The film will be released in the US on July 22, 2011 and distributed by Paramount Pictures.

Atwell will next be seen in Pillars of Earth, the eight-part miniseries premiering July 23 on Starz and the TV series The Prisoner.  Her film credits include The Duchess, Brideshead Revisited and Cassandra’s Dream.

This movie is just a string of movies based on Marvel properties coming out in the next few years including Iron Man 2 this summer, Thor in 2011 and the Avengers in 2012.

Paramount Adapting Existence 2.0

Existence 2.0Image‘s rather craptacular blog has announced that Paramount pictures will be adapting their comic series Existence 2.0.  Miles Millar and Alfred Gough will be adpating it with Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller’s Platinum Dunes and Circle of Confusion’s David Alpert producing.

Written by Nick Spencer and drawn by Ronald Salas, Existence 2.0 was a three issue limited series.

It focused on self-absorbed physicist Sylvester Baladine. After Baladine’s assassination, Baladine finds his consciousness transferred to the body of the hitman who killed him. Things don’t seem so bad until the people who “killed” Baladine kidnap his daughter. Baladine is forced to dig up his past to solve his own murder, making himself a target once more.

Existence 2.0 will be collected with its four-issue sequel, Existence 3.0, in trade paperback and available for sale in August 2010.

Spider-man 4 Delay Shakes Up Release Dates

Spider-man 4 was to be released May 5, 2011.  Reports have surfaced in the last few days that delays have hit the film leading to speculation that it won’t make the intended release.  But, stepping in to save the day for Marvel, Kenneth Branagh’s Thor is moving up it’s release date from it’s originally intended May 20th.

This caused a shift in other movie releases as Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides swooped in to take Thor‘s former date of May 20th, giving it a one week lead on assured blockbuster The Hangover 2 which opens Memorial Day.

Variety has reported that Paramount hasn’t totally given up on releasing Spider-man 4 on it’s intended date, but with Thor already moving and it’s former date now taken, it’d be up in the air as to what Thor would do if Spidey made it’s date.

2o11 is slated to be a busy year for blockbusters.  July 4th will see the next installment in the Transformers series and the final Harry Potter installment will hit the screens two weeks after that.  The First Avenger: Captain America is set to come out July 22, 2011 (though the 4th would of been perfect synergy) and Warner Bros. and DC have claimed June 17th for the Green Lantern film staring Ryan Reynolds.

Iron Man 2 Trailer

Iron Man 2The first trailer for Iron Man 2 has hit the Apple website and it is pure awesome.  They seriously need to bottle this up and sell it, as eau de awesome.

From the trailer we see we get some War Machine action, the return of Samuel L. Jackson (the the baddest motherf*#&%er out there), and Scarlett Johansson looking hot as the Black Widow (I’m putting money down she gets a teaser poster).
