The all-new high-fantasy satire—D’orc—by fan-favorite artist Brett Bean, colorist Jean-François Beaulieu, and letterer Nate Piekos will offer a palooza of additional variant covers by top tier artists including Jorge Corona, Jason Howard, Ryan Ottley, Ryan Stegman, Riley Rossmo, Mirka Andolfo, and more high-flyers yet-to-be-announced. This ongoing series is set to launch next month from Image Comics.

DC NEXT LEVEL INTRODUCES FRESH FACES AND FAN FAVORITES

DC Next Level, part of the second act of DC All In, is a new publishing initiative spotlighting characters like Batwoman, Deathstroke, The Demon, Firestorm, Lobo, Barbara Gordon, Zatanna, the Teen Titans, and more. The creative roster includes Jeff Lemire, Greg Rucka, Javier Rodríguez, Jamal Campbell, Skottie Young, Mariko Tamaki, James Harren, Kyle Higgins, Joshua Williamson, Daniele Di Nicuolo, Michael Walsh, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Rafael De Latorre, Jorge Corona, Tony Fleecs, Amancay Nahuelpan, Deniz Camp, DaNi, and others. The initiative promises fresh perspectives and dynamic storytelling across the DC Universe.

While the new series will be independent reads and not heavily tied to other books, they will exist alongside DC’s ongoing comic book series like Superman, Batman, Justice League Unlimited, and more. The focus is creating new-reader friendly debuts that roll out over time creating easy jumping-on point.

In the announcement, Snyder and Williamson teased this is just the second phase of what is planned with a legion of stories still to be told.

Skybound, Image Comics, and Hasbro have revealed interior pages and the lineup of variant covers for Transformers #26, the two-time Eisner Award winning series from the new powerhouse creative team of writer Robert Kirkman, artist Dan Mora, colorist Mike Spicer, and letterer Rus Wooton. The next chapter of the tentpole Energon Universe story will be available on shelves in comic book shops on November 12, 2025.

NYCC 2025: Skybound, Image, and Hasbro Revealed the Future of the Energon Universe

At the official Energon Universe panel at New York Comic Con this weekend, Skybound, Image Comics, and Hasbro revealed all-new covers, interior pages, and character designs from the shared universe in a panel featuring superstars Robert Kirkman, Joshua Williamson, Dan Mora, Jorge Corona, Tom Reilly, Conor Hughes, and Ben Abernathy. 

Fittingly titled Transformers & G.I. JOE: A New Era for the Energon Universe, the panel was the first public appearance following last week’s debut of Transformers #25 by new creative team Kirkman and Mora, and also the perfect tease for the upcoming new story arcs with G.I. JOE’s Dreadnok War kicking off with issue #13 this November and Void Rival’s Quintesson War beginning with issue #25 in December.  

Celebrating the second anniversary of the two-time Eisner Award winning series Transformers, Kirkman and Mora were joined by longtime series artist Jorge Corona to recap the first appearances in Transformers #25, including Miles Mayhem, who fans know as the primary antagonist of Hasbro’s M.A.S.K. franchise. Then, it was time to look toward the future as they showed off covers and interior pages from Transformers #26 and announced the return of Autobot Brawn, coming in Transformers #27 this December. Finally, Kirkman revealed the newest 7.25-inch Leader Scale Optimus Prime action figure, honoring the epic scene where in a chaotic battle with Skywarp and the Decepticons, Optimus Prime’s right arm is badly damaged. When Optimus uses the Matrix to power a hospital and save the patients instead of fixing himself, Ratchet comes to his leader’s aid and grafts Megatron’s arm, cannon and all, onto Optimus’s shoulder. This iconic figure, complete with Megatron’s fusion cannon, is available for pre-order now on Hasbro Pulse and will be available later this Fall. 

The reunited original G.I. JOE creative team of Joshua Williamson and Tom Reilly treated NYCC to sneak peeks at the Dreadnok War story arc, revealing character designs for the Dreadnoks Ripper, Zarana, Zandar and Torch, unveiling pages from that arc’s debut issue G.I. JOE #13, as well as covers across the entire arc, which will run through issue #17. They also announced the debut of fan-favorite Dreadnok character Road Pig, which will come in G.I. JOE #14. But they didn’t stop there, also announcing that G.I. JOE #18 will be a standalone Night Force issue, featuring the first appearance of fan-favorite Roadblock. Character designs were revealed for the Night Force team of Lady Jaye, Flint, Beach Head and Shooter. And in a look forward, the return of M.A.S.K. leader Matt Trakker in G.I. JOE #19 was also announced.  

The current Void Rivals creative team of Kirkman and Conor Hughes discussed major moments from Hughes’s current arc with crowd pleasing characters Skuxxoid, Wheelie and Pythona at the forefront. Kirkman also speculated on the horrors and surprises awaiting the Sacred Ring in the Quintesson War arc, which will see Andrei Bressan join as series artist for Void Rivals‘s biggest story yet. As new cover reveals for Void Rivals #25-#26 teased, this Energon Universe epic is like nothing fans have yet experienced…and the Sacred Ring will never be the same. 

The Energon Universe is the crown jewel of the historic collaboration between Hasbro and Skybound, who has introduced a brand-new era of the TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE franchises in one shared comic book universe. Energon Universe titles include the ongoing series Void Rivals, TRANSFORMERS and G.I. JOE. Fans should expect can’t-miss moments from every issue of the Energon Universe, as secrets are unveiled along the path to answering the BIG questions from some of the biggest franchises in comics today.

Transformers #25 ushers in a new era, Hits the Nostalgia, and Delivers Surprises

Optimus Prime and the remaining Autobots must join forces with unlikely allies in order to protect their adopted planet. But Prime’s next challenge lies closer to home than he ever imagined. And what is the fate of the Decepticons? Transformers #25 kicks off a new creative team as sides regroup with some surprising twists along the way.

Transformers #25 begins Robert Kirkman‘s run writing the iconic franchise, one he’s dipped his toes in recently with his writing on “Energon Universe” series Void Rivals. The Transformers are clearly on Earth with humanity now knowing of their existence, and Kirkman dives right into that with the ramifications of their battles so far and the destruction they’ve caused.

Transformers #25 does a solid job of capturing the voice of the original Gen1 cartoon with Optimus coming off as the wise, but somewhat coming off as caught in a new land. The comic dials things back to some of the basics when it comes to alliances and acceptances with simple logic thrown out to move the story and plot along. The Decepticons ran after destroying stuff but the Autobots stayed to help, therefore the Autobots are good so we should trust them. It feels simplistic in some ways but works and compacts logic that otherwise would have played out for far too long.

With that comes an opportunity for new allies as Optimus is recruited by possible representatives of the US government. There’s no reason to doubt their claims of being part of the government but there’s no real proof they are and there’s one reveal that maybe they’re not. What’s set up is a debut of a character, but not a franchise, that teases there’s more coming to the Energon Universe and should make fans even more excited. It also upends some things giving the Autobots an advantage and shakes things up in ways that are unexpected. Scarcity for the Transformers has been an issue but Kirkman begins to lay the groundwork to undo that.

But, it’s not all simple meeting new allies like the cartoons. There is some depth and moral ambiguity for adults too. Megatron and his Decepticons have gathered with an address of the troops. There, we get Megatron’s vision and what his goals are. It’s rather interesting because it’s something that hasn’t been clear from the beginning of the series. Beyond the pre-existing fight, what is the motivation of the Decepticons, what is their driving philosophy? We see that here.

Then, there’s what’s going on with Elita-1 and the Autobots on Cybertron. The less said the better but it’s a massive shift in character and should create some fireworks down the road.

But, Transformers #25 is an issue about transition. Jorge Corona opens up the comic on art with the segment focused on the Decepticons with Dan Mora taking over when the comic shifts to the Autobots. With color by Mike Spicer and lettering by Rus Wooton. There’s a clear shift in art as Corona and Mora’s art styles are very different and Mora’s ongoing art should be interesting. It’s a much “cleaner” style than we’ve see so far for this run, much more like previous runs. But, Mora brings a level of detail that’s fantastic. His take on the damaged Optimus Prime is really interesting with small parts of his shell missing and it’s present not just in bot form but also when he transforms. It’s a small level of detail that might go unnoticed but adds so much to the story and world.

Transformers #25 is a great transition with a clear focus on setting up what’s to come. It evokes a lot of moments that clearly mine the past, both in comics and animated, and brings in new elements that 80s toy fans will get excited for. The series might have a new team but it isn’t missing a beat.
